I should add that NI is a hybrid constitutionally it is both a contingent self governing part of the UK union and simultaneously a part of the 'whole and indivisible island of Ireland which will one day be reunified'. So all born in NI are citizens of both the UK and the ROI. This unique status is embedded in UK constitutional law, EU treaty law and international law since the 1998 GFA is an international treaty. Hence despite Boris claiming the UK was a single state (its not) NI had to have a special arrangement. GB could and did leave the EU fully but NI cannot (plus its voters voted majority Remain and its constitutional law is that its status cannot be changed except by a majority in a binding referendum called by its own assembly. Hence the NIP and its scheme of implementation the WF. This preserves as closely as possible the hybrid status of NI but at the cost to Unionists of a customs sea border with GB. The DUP who have a complex politico-religious mythology took the NIP to court and lost in the Belfast High Court, the NI Court of Appeals, and the UK Supreme Court which all ruled the NIP was legal and the only solution for NI to Brexit. The DUP could have taken it to the ECJ which in NI still has jurisdiction but they did not as they pretend it does not exist.

The election of Trump is a nightmare for Ulster Unionists and their GB based 'British nationalist' backers who are mostly Tory but not a few Labour members. British Nationalism is the term historians use to label the view that the UK is not a union of 7 parts each with a unique constitutional status linked by treaties made and amended over centuries. They falsely claim the UK is a unitary state ruled from Westminster. Its an English ideology dating from the 1707-1712 Jacobite uprisings in Scotland. Ulster Unionists (of which the DUP is one) have a complex politico-religious mythology that God intended NI to be a Protestant homeland. They don't accept the constitutional facts of the 1920 Gov of Ireland Act which was clear the partition was a temporary answer to Protestant led and Tory funded violence, and do not accept the 1998 Gov of NI Act which embeds the GFA and which built on the 1920 foundation and envisages a possible future reunification. The DUP was the only party in NI to refuse to sign the GFA which was negotiated by the then dominant UUP and the DUP was then just small group of angry Unionists who have grown into the largest unionist party. But not because hardline Unionism has become more popular - the truth is that sinec 1998 the Protestant community has become far less sectarian and far more secular and now half of NI Protestants are not Unionists at all but support the non sectarian Alliance party and the SDLP which is its equivalent on the Catholic side. For its part even Sinn Fein has become far less militant Nationalist and far more secular whereas sadly on the Protestant side the DUP and TUV have become more intransigent. Ulster Unionists cynically wanted Brexit because they thought it would mean a hard border across Ireland but instead it means a GB-NI customs border. The NIP sets this out and the WF implements it. The USA brokered and guarantees the GFA and is insistent that the NIP/WF be fully implemented and its one of the very few thoroughly bipartisan issues in the USA. Trump loves the ROI, as President in his first term he made two state visits and two other private visits to his golf estate near Shannon. On all occasions he was politely welcomed (and hugely cheered in Shannon where he is a major employer) and he always claims to be part Irish. Whereas he made just one state visit to the UK and was insulted at every turn and the authorities had to keep demonstrators off the streets wherever he went. Plus the Labour government made the stupid choice to allow around 70 of its staff to help the Harris campaign. He is famously thin skinned and will remember every insult and what better way to stick it to the UK and at the same time shore up support in the huge American Irish lobby than to appoint as he did last time a Special Envoy to Ireland who will be a prominent Irish American who will insist that the WF is fully implemented asap.

I run a small construction business. Brexit has made it harder for me to staff our romanian team. However much I dislike this fact, it's great for the British guys that I've had to take on since, and it's definitely massively helped boost my guys pay and what the expectations are for new starts in the past couple years. If you care about the working class you're for brexit, if you care about multinationals and share holder profits then you are against. Personally my bottom line isn't more important to me than doing the right thing.

Tourism needs to change everywhere, the same issues are being raised around here, and it wont take too long for some areas here to become tourist unfriendly, and I have already heard stories about tourists being kicked out of certain areas, and of people simply opting not to deal with them, because living conditions here are getting better, and the local tourism and business is starting to be sufficient. The money is becoming not worth it, for the expenses and troubles it gives.
