I'm getting ready to do this with my son using a guitar he inherited. I'm considering using a Dremel for the 5 mm depth area, simply because it's such a shallow depth and I feel like I can control it more that way.

Floyd Rose rout is different than a Floyd Rose Licensed, Floyd has square shoulders and Licensed has angled shoulders and sometimes has different base plate widths and could have different post locations. Half a mill difference makes the blades wear unevenly and the bridge gets a sticky spot. The Schaller fits the actual Floyd but the intonation screws are shorter than the Floyd so the butt rout could look too long if the guitar is pre-routed for a Floyd. I put a Schaller in a build 2 years ago and will never buy a Floyd again.

I’m an amateur trying to make a guitarbody also and I laughed every time you sai “overthinking” because I have been frying my brain over these things as well 😂 Thanks for sharing! As a matter of fact, I was so overthinking that I decided to make a test body out of pine ( basically laminated 2x6s) which helped a lot and gave me confidence. Also, what I found is that if your router bits are longer than what you need, use your plexiglass template to make another template out of 2 pieces of 1/2” mdf glued together, for a template depth of 1”, maybe that helps. I've got the template but I'm going to have to modify it a bit to adjust for the holes that are already there and I don't want to mess up my intonation on top of it

cant afford the templates from stew mac and my cutting is not the best so i downloaded the floyd template pdf and imported all 5 pages into my software and cdut out vinyl templates no screwing into the body and all i need to do is use a straight edge all i have is a small palm router.

Great video!! I learned a lot again! I have an old piano from Paris of 1850's, a wooden frame and not metal, so the strings are not holding anymore. End of life for the piano but since I saw your yt's about guitar building, I am thinking of trying to build a semi hollow Telecaster type guitar. Using the side panel as the structure and the sound board as the top. Is that a good idea? Hope to see another new video from you soon! A lot of success in your builds!!

When you measure for the position of the floyd unit or in fact any trem, do you aim for the middle point of the saddle travel so you can adjust back and forward to achieve good intonation? Hope I made sense ?

Beautiful! I'm carving out a butterfly on a little bench for my granddaughter - the whole life cycle of the Monarch on redwood. I was hoping to see how to best smooth it all out. My carved out lines are just a few mm wide. Doing it with a pocketknife! But I'm thinking I'll need to get some new dremelbits for this. I appreciate your encouraging tone! Redwood is so tender & yielding. I might be hooked.
