AIWO Bookbinding Studio Vlog 14~ 🌟 Traditional Chinese fabric crafts & photo albums — Song Brocade
Today, I will use Traditional Chinese fabric ‘Song brocade’ to create a photo albums. Song Brocade is one of the traditional silk crafts of China. Song Brocade has significant appreciation and collection value and is also highly practical. I like the hollow frame design because one of the original uses of Song Brocade was to frame pictures.
For the inner pages, I used recyclable 80 lb cover natural cardstock. Two sheets per signature, a total of five signatures.

Today I’m going to making a book press like bitter melon bindery@bittermelonbindery whom I have followed for 3 years. I only have a small manual drill, so I can only drill a few more holes, and then through grinding, grinding into square holes. I thought it was worth it!!! These are beautiful! I just learned the coptic stitch. Does gluing the stitching make it stronger?
Thank you so much! 😊Coptic stitch is such a lovely technique. Yes, gluing the stitching can definitely make it stronger and more durable, I believe it helps protect the spine of the book. especially if you plan to use the book frequently. It helps keep everything in place. Happy bookbinding!

How do you prevent glue seepage? I notice you did make book cloth with your fabric. Thank you
I think this is a good question! I have the following suggestions: The fabric should not be too thin. If the fabric is too light and thin, glue marks will show after it dries. Do not apply glue directly to the fabric. Instead, apply it to the book board or cardstock to bond with the book cloth (indirect gluing). When applying glue to the book board or other medium, use a small amount and ensure it is even. Too much glue will cause seepage. 💐

@@Carla48435 The fabric in the video is just regular fabric that I bought at a fabric store. There are also fabrics specifically made for book covers available on the market. Currently, I use three types of fabric book covers: 1. Fabric: This type of fabric is relatively soft and has the risk of glue seeping through. However, there are many patterns and designs available, allowing for personalized design and creation. 2.DIY Fabric Book Covers: After purchasing the fabric, I process it myself by adding double-sided adhesive and backing paper. The texture is relatively hard and there is no risk of glue seeping through. I think It is no different from professional book fabric. However, it is not as convenient as buying ready-made ones and requires time to make. 3. Specialized Book Covers: These are mostly solid colors and come with backing paper. They have a relatively hard texture. They can be directly cut and made, which is convenient and time-saving. However, the variety is limited, and I have not found any ready-made book covers with patterned fabric.

I’m trying to make a hard cover book with exposed stitching and I’m not sure how to attach the hard cover to the signatures is it just glued to a page or how are stitching it in
@@brice2597 First, I believe both methods you mentioned are viable. If your signatures and book cover are separate, you can apply glue to the spine of the signatures and then attach the book cover to the signatures. If you don’t apply glue to the signatures and rely solely on stitching, I can demonstrate the stitching method in my next video. Additionally, you can watch videos by Sea Lemon, DAS, and Bitter Melon, as they all teach methods for stitching exposed spine books.🌹😊
