I need to find the fluke for some friends coming down. I’ve been fishing in little egg inlet and reef but it’s been awful. Anyone got any recommendations in the back bay besides brick pile and beach haven?

Ditto's to all the positive comments! Simplistic which some people may not enjoy but, for beginners you guys are excellent! Guys who have fished their whole lives can still learn stuff too! Good ol southern boy here who has spent many years fishing NC beaches including The Outer Banks, Cape Hatteras, etc. Last summer I was fortunate enough to spend several days on LBI (Harvey Cedars) at the cottage of an old college friend. Went fishing one morning and caught a several dink flounder. But it was enough to make me start thinking. I want to experience a true striper blitz or at least add to my total of ONE legal striper from the surf (20 years ago at OBX) and LBI seems a good choice. All be it a distant one! What time period is our best bet in the fall and again in the spring. I've watched several of your videos on You Tube and me and a couple buddies have got the bug to make that drive up 95 to LBI! Though we would probably avoid 95 but it rhymes so....... I was also fascinated by the jetty at old Barny as I watched 10-12 inch (and smaller) bluefish terrorize menhaden for an hour or more one day. What a fishing asset. So cool. Seriously, any help would be appreciated. We are still in the "thinking stage"

Great report. Looks like guys have been catching some nice fish.

Fluke aka Flounder is your best bet. The water on the beaches is a little churned up and chilly right now due to South winds but the fish are still there and that should warm up again within the week. I typically use 4 inch gulp swimming mullets on a high low rig with a 3/4oz or 1oz sinker at the bottom depending on how much weight you need to hold bottom. Single jigheads tipped with gulp also work just as good. Minimum size limit on fluke is 18 inches and there's also stuff like dogfish sharks and rays if you're using bait on a heavier setup. Great report Gents. I fished the Great Bay on Father's day with my daughter and got skunked. Only caught a couple of rays and a sand shark. I fished the channel outside of Captain Mike's, the stink house, and some of the intercoastal. Tried spro bucktail with gulp on the bottom and a teaser with minnow on the top. Can't seem to find them. There were a ton of boats and didn't see much action with them as well.

No disrespect bud.. but "cast out as far as you can"? No way.. thats wasted time fishing for fluke in the surf.. 99 percent of the time those fluke are right at your feet up to 50 feet out.. otherwise good stuff
