2001 WPL 9ball Efren Reyes Bustamante & Mika Immonen Mike Davis
I've just come from a video of Mika dissing Efren. I've now been binging all the videos Efrens beaten him (there are lots😂)
@@eseroma efren had mikas number most times?
I notice not too many safety shots until a certain Filipino came along
Why would somebody add commercials idiots to do that
Corey Duel sucks!
Thumbnail- Machine gun Lou Buttera! Hi Sal 👍
I was 11 in 84 started playing pool in 83 time flys now 51 and still hitting the tables
I remember where I was at when they played. I was at Creek Nation Bingo with some friends when we heard David was playing Hopkins. A bookie we knew wanted any action on David. We just won on pull tabs so we fired it all on David. No cell phones back then but we spent 2 rolls of quarters pushing our bet from the Creek Nation Bingo Hallls payphones. Man we were young. Not a care in the world and betting was a complete joy. After all we grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma. We had a hive of great players. 8 are playing pro now. They were teenagers hitting the road back then...
@clydehinman7810 it's been awhile since I watched this match. Did you win the bet?
@meatalman1962 nope. We lost 5 yard notes. Which is the equivalent of $3000 now. I have won a lot following David around the country. He taught me 3 cushion billiards here in Tulsa. My favorite place to watch him was at Raytown Rec in Raytown Missouri. I side betted on him playing Jay Swanson one weekend and also won playing 13 card in a four player 10 & 20 card game against some Vietnamese dudes. It's times like that i love remembering. Not because I booked a winner, but just the joy of being in action in a smoked filled pool hall. The atmosphere was incredible. We all knew each other. Texas, Arkansas and both sides of Kansas City.
That shot at 32:47 wouldn’t have went on a Diamond table
I don’t know about that. A table just being a diamond doesn’t make it play any harder. I played on diamonds that were 7’ and 9’ and they played very forgiving. Same on any brand of table, with some playing tuff, others forgiving.
Super clean betamax tape Wow.
I really want that US News and World Reports subscription with free pocket camera.
Nick Varner chews gum in his sleep.
Very clean tape copy for 1983. Extremely clean. Has to be Betamax machine. Really enjoy these little time capsules especially when they're well made. God to think that I was 7 back then. I don't own any stuff like this so I forgot what soo many commercials used to be like then. '83 I was fortunate enough to actually see the first opening theme tune with pictures from HBO. Watched that and a lot of MTV. Didn't really watch too much ESPN until a few years later.
Love watching these older players from my day. Made me get up and go hit some balls.
Besides Earl calling the wrong shot, i'd say Jason had plenty of freakn chances to win it. They both played subpar and it just ended sour... damn. Memories.
First time I've seen this straight pool game with The GOAT, I thought I seen them all on YT, where has this been hiding😅
@mrnobody3949 there are a few old accustat vids of him playing 14.1
@@meatalman1962 yes I seen almost all them except this one
These are great players this was roughly when i first learned about pool via espn, couldnt wait to try the game out, our cable remote was a giant box with mechanical buttons it was attached to the cable receiver box via a thick black cord, those were the days lol. I noticed that someone called 'pay-per-view', 'pay-TV' instead, i though pay-per-view was out at this time but maybe not or maybe the name wasnt popular yet
Dang Earl really played formidable in this match, and that at age 22. Mizerak didn’t stand a chance 😁
Keith "Ain't shxt in a blue gums back yard McCready. Dude sux
I was never a fan of hopkins stroke. Has a perfect practice stroke then stops right before the cue ball , then uses a push stroke to hit the cue ball.
... At 15:46 ... Something you couldn't get away with saying most likely these days " Throwing babies off the balcony " ?¿? ... Or something to that effect . That being said ... Thank you sincerely for sharing this piece of history .
I had my beautiful daughter in 1984. 😁
Rempi sucks!! 😖
Cloth is so bad can't do anything if you really want to do😢
You jumped up on those missed balls Allen
They could do with standardising the magic rack and then it wouldn't take three referees to get a tight rack!
Who are the commentators? Where did this take place? When?
@danielpincus221 2001 in the Philippines not sure on commentary
Scary, how Bad actually the best back then were. And if u add the fact, that the Pockets today in pro Pool are nearly the half of back then, they‘re Even more worse
Now you got to go online and register and then qualify bunch of b******* now
When you could just show up and pay $100 and get in
Look at those pockets! You could shoot softballs into those
I always think that the names of the commentators should be in the title of the video or on top of the info section.
@danielpincus221 good idea
Scotty Townsend was the best pool player i ever knew,I miss the Townsend family. I was married to Scotty little brother Sam,I got so many memories with the Townsend family. RIP..LOVE Penny
It looks like I was using the o.BQ there I was completely helpless with that thing.I have no idea how I ever wanna match
The real tragedy of this event is that dead critter on top of Irv Brown's head
Mike adjusted to the table instantly....as if playing on it his whole life. The commentator saying at the opening break about the cloth being new is pure BS. And the more knap theory is pure ignorance. The casino being the obvious proprietor of the event, wanted their brand logo visible, apparently they were calling the shots here in whatever contract was made and I seriously doubt ESPN was the entity in question as one might think....compared to what a corporate DEMAND would be these days when compared to the pool association under agreement with the casino back then and ESPN itself being a third party interloper in effect that was going more for the ride of coverage rather than having any real say as to match scheduling, layouts etc ....or else like today, the probability of the cloth logo would say something else, such as ESPN on the cloth or whatever corporate entity in oversight and therefore sponsorship etc... What happened here was, they took the craps table cloth off of one of their pit tables that had the casino logo on it and the cloth of course not designed for pool play....was so slow, that what you witness here in terms of slow in comparison to typical simonis etc today, WAS, first of all, not uncommon because typical cloth used in pool rooms back then were not universally faster like today. BUT..... still not quite as slow as this cloth was and what you are not seeing is the fact that they took a hot clothes iron to it in the attempt of making it somewhat faster. They ironed that cloth in between matches and during as well....and thus the story behind and reason for the it being so slow. AS WELL AS, a testament to how good Mike was who.... Made it look easy like he always did, thus the best player for his era, pre Efren etc who of course had a say in pool history as well....but I don't care what anyone says, Mike overall in 9ball and straight pool etc was WAY more precise and efficient than Efren and when it comes to overall efficiency in terms of the least cue ball travel and because I personally think it matters effectively....was Mizerak. If you study the overall amount of cb travel distance on average between the 3 players from any match they have played in general, it is easy to see what I'm talking about and Efren obviously having the most distance by far, probably due to the lack of a straight pool background. But in Efren's case, it must be said his rail knowledge was superior and therefore the side note of fact that I myself say from observation.....i dare anyone to present evidence of Efren coming or going multiple rails where he inadvertently scratches in a side pocket. I dare anyone.... Thus, an excessive amount of cue ball travel....is a negated factor of ineffectiveness in his case, when admitting what is unarguable fact, that ultimately the less travel distance...the better.... even though pool is arguably a more improvisational and or adaptive endeavor as we presently and historically and reasonably know it. ....its arguably better to be more knowledgeable like Efren, rather than not BUT more precise instead like Mizerak etc. Also if i am not mistaken, Efren was part of this Espn coverage originally back in the day because I remember seeing it in Boston when it first aired....as well as the women's final also.
They shoot every shot so hard. Especially Kim. He'd have made everything he missed if he just wouldn't have hit them nearly as hard.
That's probably what started Earl's PTSD with crowd distraction, was always the cameraman with the huge camera in front of every pocket that you're shooting in! 😂
This table played a little slow and had a choppy roll.
1:36:21 awful. just awful. it's simply amazing how bad most "pros" were at even the most basic of fundamentals. then missing a 9 ball that an apa 5 would make 9 out of 10 times. awful. just a bunch of road players flailing around the table. everything they learned was from losing money. nobody trained to actually be a good player back then. nobody
🤡
You wouldn't play anyone of the those four players for a lot of cash
@@gregburton5404 yes because gambling on pool games is fucking retarded
Hard to believe how bad the equipment was for many of these events, sticker in the middle of the table, cheap cloth, dirty cueball, home furniture table.
@hang-the-93 agreed pools come a long way since then
Buddy sounds like he's hyperventilating
@1:47:18 I miss the days of smoking in a pool hall/tournament event. I mean we can vape inside the pool hall I goto, and smoke dryflower weed and cigarettes after hours, but not during normal hours when the average customer would be mad lol
Why is this match postponed after that argument from shaw and strickland?
Jj says good job dallas!
My grandson's 1st home run derby
My grandson's 1st home run derby
louie was still the best 9 ball player of all time.
The two most beautiful women to ever pick up a cue stick. Very Talented players and very personable, well respected Ladies.
Jacob from Panama city recorded these matches with a handheld camera at starcade Billiards I have more of scotty.
Wow both had many, misses, scratches and only 1 break & run in 8 games. Definitely not Louie’s day.
@tomburns890 probably not the right cocktail mixture I've read stories where he didn't miss for hours
@@meatalman1962 my thought too. Or maybe a combo of a bad day and that alcohol needle was low. I’m guilty of the same at times. Ha
