Honestly, when he starts E, long sword or mote are a way better choice. When starting Q, it makes sense since you can just spam it more easily. But Bacca is usually very conservative in his Q usage.
The lane doesn’t always shake out that he ends up needing it. If the croc ended up being more aggro it probably would have come up. It’s just matchup dependent but it’s not all that bad.

@@mhnsepetuxw Tri cause it's bread and butter for GP now (speed, sheen, atk speed for barrel and passive, HP for W). ER has no sheen effect anymore but its base stats are 135% gold efficiency while other similar crit items have only 95~100% gold efficiency, meaning you spent 3k1 gold but you get 4k7 gold worth of an item instead (65 AD, crit, haste), it's a bargain.
to add on to this the other best items Second are lethality but essence reaver gives crit so allows you to hit 75% crit faster.
