I live in Wisconsin My local university used kei vans as run around vehicles. They were selling a broken one on a surplus auction. It sold for 2k. Also, in Wisconsin they most likely will not ban them because 1. These have the same use of our UTVs. In rual areas UTVs are used in place of a pick up truck because they are more fuel efficient and can be used on public roads. Kei trucks are slowing taking over that because they are cheaper, more comfortable, and quieter than most UTVs. 2. Theyre niche 3. Ive seen government officals use them as city runabouts. Also the ones my local university has are 2011s and are registered as "low speed vehicle" This makes me wonder if they have special permission or if you can legally register a kei vehicle less than 25yrs as a "low speed vehicle"

Kei trucks are INFINITELY SAFER than any 8,000 lbs ford F-150 or Ram 1500. Mostly because if you hit a pedestrian they don’t get sucked up underneath the truck and turned to a fine mist by the driveshaft. Maybe if the big three said fuck the cafe standards, and lobbied Congress to change them, were could get small affordable trucks in this stupid country again. But probably not, we will keep building bigger and dumber trucks that list for the blood of small children and other pedestrians.

Budget minded buyers always buy used, because you can get an objectively 5 times better car than the brand new versa, and maintenance wouldn’t even be much. Hell, just buy a sub 2010 camry under 10k and it would still out do the versa.

More expensive cars are not fundamentally more profitable than cheap cars. That lie is spreading everywhere right now. If enough people were buying the cheap products, reaching a larger market can outweigh a potentially lower margin. But people aren’t buying cheap econoboxes en masse anymore or there wouldn’t be excess inventory. These days, most people who can afford to buy a brand new car want more space and their minimum standards for tech and interior have gone up. Crappy cars like this don’t cut anymore and the “I just need to get to work” buyer is never buying a brand new car anyways.
