I miss all the fun climbing stairway portage fully loaded with gear but the views over looking Rose Lake is still my favorite place to sit and enjoy the sound of the wild

My first trip to the Gunflint was in 1985 and I have gone there every year, with the exception of 2 years, since then. There have been a couple of years that we have gone twice within the same year. My wife and I have been there in the summer, fall and winter. My wife and I were married on top of Honeymoon Bluff and go to Honeymoon Bluff every year on our anniversary date. I'm now 80 years old and every year the hiking takes more of a toll on me, but we will continue to go to Honeymoon Bluff each year until I am unable to get to the top. Hungry Jack Lodge is where we always stay all of the time. I started out staying in the campground at HJ and using HJ as a base camp and do multiple day canoe camping trips from there. We have graduated to staying in a cabin many years ago. As I have aged we not longer do multi-day canoe camping in the area, but instead canoe different lakes in the area for only a day and return to our cabin each evening. Great people at Hungry Jack lodge and because we are "regulars" they consider us almost as though we are family. IMO, when God created this world he did some of his best work in the Gunflint Trail area of MN. Thanks for the great video.

When I'm reminded of all God's beauty I've seen in Minnesota, I get all weepy.

A canoe is the way to see it at that time of year. Before ice in, and just after ice out, is unreal. On the Gunflint about half way up he trail is Trail Center.....stop for a burger over looking Poplar Lake, and stop in at the the Ugly Baby Bait shop. It's a trip!

hi bryan! I just noticed your video with that intro to bass lake, would you say that path to that is pretty wide and flat for easy canoe portage? I see that there was a canoe there when you went and I am guessing that is the first path you guys went was the portage path which took you there? just trying to find out if this portage path is relatively flat and easy to do since its a very close lake to ely! any response will be appreciated! thanks!

Rainy River is so hit and miss I discovered this weekend. I drove down there to put my kayak in this weekend. Weather was beautiful but this super cold winter and late spring has the walleyes held up or something. All I caught was pike! I saw a few walleye caught but pretty much all small males. Timing is off this year so I understand the struggle. Cheers

We’re from Thunder Bay and miss our occasional venture into Minnesota! Grand Marais, “We miss you!” Take care! Until we meet again, after Covid.... for now, we hike in our area, which has the same beautiful scenery. We miss our neighbours to the South. Thank you for this video. We are looking forward to hiking the Gunflint trail.

I grew up fishing there. My family has been going there for generation. Need to go back

We were there last full week in January, cold as hail! -28 reel feel, fishing was slow for us, furthest sleeper out to to west, jig your lure or minnow they disappeared, only fish we caught were on a dead stick.

Accomodations? looks great👍 must have been tough heading back to MN after this vaca.
