London ․NET User Group
Великобритания
Добавлен 12 окт 2023
Welcome to the London .NET User Group! Since 2002, we've been bringing together developers and software professionals working with .NET to learn from each other, share tips and tricks, and keep up with all the latest developments in the world of .NET. We aim to meet in person, once a month, usually at a company or event space somewhere in central London. Our guest speakers range from internationally renowned experts in .NET and associated technologies, to aspiring presenters from our community giving their first presentation in front of a live audience.
.NET in 2023 sits at the heart of a vibrant, cross-platform development community, and we're interested in talking about anything and everything that's related to building software with .NET: deep-dive technical sessions about performance optimisations and memory management, case studies and experience reports, and wider topics like security, diversity, open source, and development culture.

Alex Hall: Sketching In NET
Recorded at the London .NET User Group meetup, 16 July 2024
Artists, when constructing an artwork, will often create multiple studies & sketches before committing to the final canvas; experimentation and simulation are essential. How do we do that with code? One of the reasons JavaScript and Python had such popularity is how tactile they are to newcomers with simple tools, such as REPL's. .NET, like Java, suffered from a lack of early tools to simply play with your code. However, thanks to the work of the .NET team in the last few years, we now have a stunning interactive toolset, including Jupyter Notebooks, REPL's & more, unlocking the ability for programmers to plug & play, experimentin...

Maria-Assumpta Ukaefu: Addressing Online Fraud: Exploring Fake Websites and Demographics
Просмотров 387 месяцев назад
In today's digital landscape, there's a constant struggle against scammers who seize every opportunity to deceive. Due to a lack of awareness, many individuals have fallen victim to this escalating threat, despite the availability of some protective measures. To investigate how demographics influence the ability to detect fake and potentially fraudulent online shopping platforms, similar to pop...
James Bender: Creating a Design Language with Tailwind CSS
Просмотров 3138 месяцев назад
The code from this presentation is on GitHub: github.com/JamesBender/LDNUG2024 As a web developer, I have spent most of my career struggling with UX. While libraries like SASS and Bootstrap have made CSS easier, it can still be a nightmare to get that picture in your head onto the screen the way you want it. But what about that picture in your head? What is a “good” color palette? How should my...
Park Bench Discussion
Просмотров 549 месяцев назад
A park bench discussion filmed at the London .NET User Group meetup in February 2024. Supposedly about the state of .NET in 2024, but which actually turned out to be about creating new programming languages and the impact of AI on developers' career paths. On the bench: James Bender ( jamesbender) Mark Rendle ( markrendle) Eirik Tsarpalis ( eiriktsarpalis?lang=e...
Mark Rendle: How JavaScript Happened
Просмотров 8299 месяцев назад
JavaScript was famously created in 10 days as a proof-of-concept for Netscape Navigator 2.0. Today it is one of the most-used languages in the world. Some people even like it. In this talk we will chart the path from the dark days before programming languages, through the ups and downs of the early pioneers, all the way to 1995 and the creation of JavaScript. We will meet the giants on whose sh...
Eli Holderness: A Brief History of Data Storage
Просмотров 84Год назад
For millennia, humans have known things. Pretty quickly, we started writing them down; our brains aren't particularly good at storing all the things we know reliably, and we needed something more durable. A long time ago, 'writing things down' looked like clay tablets with cuneiform on them, and affairs have only got more complicated from there. Nowadays, we try and write things down so that co...

Guy Royse: Tracking Aircraft with Redis and Software-Defined Radio
Просмотров 403Год назад
Aircraft are everywhere. Knowing exactly where is paramount as it’s considered bad form for two aircraft to be in the same place at the same time. To avoid this, aircraft worldwide constantly and publicly broadcast their location, heading, and all sorts of other data using a system called ADS-B or Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast. This data is a natural fit for a streaming architectur...
Thank you, Mark! You opinions on programming languages largely parallel my own. Great to hear my own thoughts echoed. But what about Pascal -> Object Pascal? C# implements many things first found in Object Pascal, doesn't it?
6:10 they probably didn’t have to capture an enigma it was a commercial machine sold before the war.
Is the example code available anywhere?
I’ve just added the GitHub link to the video description.
@@DylanBeattie Thanks Dylan!
Who did the audio for this? Please punish them. (audio temporarily cuts many times)
I mean, it _sounds_ like me, but who's that fat bald dude giving my talk?!
Yeah... for complicated copyright reasons we had to replace you in post-production with a 3D model of the guy from Tenacious D who isn't Jack Black.
If NULL is a billion dollars' mistake - how much is UNDEFINED... LOL... But after making fun of Go the speaker gotta reboot the TV to fix it just like one would shutdown and restart WINDOWS
Rachael Maddow here on MSNBC just reported that the US captured a German U Boat and there was an Enigma machine on it and that helped the US know what the German military were up to.
This is fascinating Love it ❤❤❤❤
Sound level is really low. Barely can hear that and have to switch to speakers from headphones to be able to hear anything :|
Sorry about that. We'll crank up the gain next time.

Thanks for the video. Please, how do I join London. NET user group? Thanks!
Super cool! Thanks for uploading the talk!
