    Before I get further on into this video I need to address one of your initial statements that makes it seem like the 100S is not a capable video camera just because the new GFX cameras have more video specs, the 100S is one of the best video cameras with an image that some of biggest video camera names can't even come close to.

    • @sethiphotography
      @sethiphotography 11 часов назад

      hey, I suppose what I was trying to say is that most people would typically buy a Sony or canon camera for video as they have better rolling performance. Most people come to gfx for the medium format look at an affordable price. Ive never used the 100S for video as AF isn't at industry standard but im sure it would be a great video camera for a talking head video or when rigged up with a manual focus lens. I will definitely check it out, and maybe even record my next video with it. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I find myself grabbing the medium format for landscape photos trip as well as shooting birds and butterflies. I only use the full frame for out of town trips. Yeah, it is slow and heavy and SSD storage is expensive, but the color and detail and latitude for adjustment really make this “medium” format something I wouldn’t give up for full frame

    great video, all your points reflect my personal experience with the GFX. I'm a long time Canon user and last year decideed to add the GFX 100s to the kit. The images are just incredible. I use all my EF L prime lenses adapted to both GFX and RF mount and that's enough for now. Haven't even considered the native G lenses because of their cost. It's a great speciality camera to have, but you still need the Canons for many applications and ease of use. Greets from the Netherlands

    Hi Sethi. First let me thank you for your insightful comments on moving into the Fujifilm GFX System! As a Nikon Z landscape, wildlife, macro and small products photographer, I'm quite pleased with the sharpness, detail, and overall image quality I achieve with this FF system, as I shoot 95% tripod-mounted. That said, as an admitted sharpness and detail "fanatic", I've always had a keen interest in seeing whether medium format would improve image sharpness/detail, particularly in large (30" x 40") prints. I recently attended a local Fujifilm GFX seminar, and had the chance to use the same SD card in both my Z8 and the GFX 100S ll, in order to compare image quality. As expected, even from this unscientific test, I found that even in an 8x10 print, I could see much more detail in the GFX product shot. I realize that such an IQ difference might not be visible on social media, so my question to you is, at what print size would you expect to see a significant difference (improvement) in image sharpness and detail over my FF images? (I also realize that my Nikon Z system would be better suited for my wildlife photography (longer focal length lenses, much faster burst rates, faster AF, etc.), but I was contemplating using the GFX system for landscape, macro and small product work.) And just FYI, I already employ focus stacking on my still life work, which results in very large files with extreme sharpness and detail, but still intrigued by the potential of the 400mp in-camera pixel shifting of the GFX 100 S ll. Thank you sir!

    • @sethiphotography
      @sethiphotography 4 дня назад

      Hi Steve, thank you for your comments. Im please you found the video informative. I have not used the Nikon Z system but I hear good things about it, especially the z8 and z6iii. The GFX system is great and the 100mpx sensor is really incredible. I have to be honest and admit that I do not print many images so I won't profess to be an expert, but from what I know, when you take into account viewing distances especially for large prints, the difference in detail compared to your FF system will probably be hard to see. The ability to crop and maintain detail whilst doing so is where I would say the GFX system really shines. If I ever do print any images and compare them, I will be sure to cover it in a video. But for now, I would probably recommend that you hire a GFX camera and lens to help you decide whether or not it's worth spending the money to migrate especially considering that you don't shoot landscapes exclusively. Your FF system is definitely more versatile. I hope this helps. Thank you

    Man totally on the fence with this, only because I'm a hobbyist and don't make money off my photography. If I were a pro... yeah, I'd probably be gone by now. But that being said, the autofocus has made me miss some special moments that I can't recreate, and that sting stays for a while. And sure theres the whole "user error" discuss here but if a green box shows up on my xh2 (which is a $2k+ camera) and shows up not in critical focus....well that's not a valid user error discussion. I"m going to see what they do with the firmware brings on oct 14th but stakes are high for Fuji. I feel a lot of future revenue from long term clients are riding on this. Sure there will be die hards that stay no matter what but my guess is there are many in my position who are on the fence, tried other brands in camera store, have seen what 2024 autofocus can offer from other brands, and are question our own sanity with fuji lol. Great video, love your perspective. Hope to see more!

    I'm still wondering whether it's actually a hardware problem. You have to remember that there are about two or three filters that sit on top of a sensor and I have a gut feeling there is a problem with the filters that sit on top of the sensor they are somehow throwing out the algorithm of what the computer in the camera is trying to do. It is just been a theory of mine for awhile and I emailed this to Fujifilm Australia as I have linked with them to say guys have a look at the filters that sit on top of the sensor is that part of the problem because it seems to be worse in the XH cameras and especially the XH2S..... That one seems to be the one that everyone's going crazy about.

    • @sethiphotography
      @sethiphotography 7 дней назад

      That’s an interesting argument. The filters in the sensor are there to protect the sensor and probably to block certain frequencies of light. I’m this is the case then no amount of firmware will fix the problem. On the other hand, the camera performs worst on version 7.00 but almost without issue on version 1.03.

    I own four Fujifilm cameras and I'm not leaving either. I really enjoy the colour science and yes they are a little bit challenging to use at the moment but they're not impossible and I've found ways around the problems. There is no way I could use a Sony or a nikon again because the cannons are just great auto focus but the colour science is just not there. The only camera that would be applicable would be a Leica and I simply couldn't afford that.

Recently got myself a Nikon ZF and it has been nothing less than a revelation. No matter what level of a Fuji focus ninja you may think you are, an accomplished and accurate focussing system just gets the camera out of the way and removes 'focus anxiety' from the equation. I can now use that free extra brain power to concentrate on composition and form! In addition, the Nikon is a far better vehicle for manual focussing.

    Also on the design side, I hope they make the dials usable in a mode where SS dial set the min shutter speed, iso dial set the max ISO, and exposure compensation dial is really the main exposure adjustment dial in terms of handling/manual control. I suggested that few months ago on Reddit. I don’t know what you think about that, I am not a pro, so my approach to photography may be wrong, but to me, after framing, aperture is where the artistic decision is, then min shutter speed (to decide if you freeze or not the subject) and ISO is a consequence of your choice (I personally never on purpose introduce noise but selecting a high ISO). And then I adjust with Exposure compensation dial. The difference is if I reframe, the exposure compensation immediately adjust the other parameters, where if you set the ISO, you’re set in stone, and your rapid reframing may cause over or under exposure. Finally, few auto mode with auto exposure to the right (of the histogram), and maybe you can set an offset between -1EV and +1EV…

    There are rumours that they are going to release a camera with a new design, and a new sensor. I hope they release a sensor larger than their APS-C where their APS-C lenses almost cover the sensor but require some vignetting compensation but is either a full frame or close to a full frame. Why I am not saying full frame because I think they should keep compatibility with the exiting glass for the transition. It would allow people to also get Sigma or Viltrox for this new mount while benefiting from the larger sensor. GFX is too expensive and too bulky for many, however, APS-C is lacking clarity because already at 26MP they were at the limit of the sensor. The 40MP provides slightly better clarity, but not like the true resolution bump should provide.

    Nice detailed video. Regarding the canon color science. I was enjoying it till I moved to canon R6. Loved the features but the colors? What? Where are the colors? I agree you can post process and the raw files are flexible! But having rubbish base colors didn’t make sense with me. I moved back in to canon 5D classic. Loving it since then. I have a Fuji xt5 as well. I am thinking of buying a used 50s ii. And adapting ef lenses to it. Any thoughts on this? I love Fuji xt5, want to replace full frame with a gfx.

      @@sethiphotography yeah saw all of your videos. Quite helpful. Any suggestions on 100S vs 50s ii?

    • @sethiphotography
      @sethiphotography 24 дня назад

      @@bangerasiddharth to be honest, the difference in price for both on the second hand market isn't too far apart so I would recommend stretching to the 100S if your budget allows it. The main difference is high iso performance. the 50Sii uses the same sensor as the 50s and the 50r. its a great sensor but its pretty old tech now and the dynamic range is only marginally better than full frame sensors and more importantly the iso performance is not great. I found that anything after 4000 iso produced very grainy images. the 100S is an excellent sensor and will produce files with much better dynamic range and high iso performance is much better. Also, the 100S has phase detect AF as opposed to contrast detect AF on the 50Sii. good luck with your purchase.

    Nice review. Gotta say for action/ wildlife stick with Nikon/ Canon etc. So many more long lenses available and AF and frame rate etc just blitz the GFX's. I'm using and old Nikkor 600mm f4 manual focus on a GFX 50Sii to see jow it goes but although the benefits of the Fuji sensor etc are there the focus with the EVF and slow shutter response/ blackout etc are painful. I much prefer my D800E with its optical finder where I can find the subject, usually birds, focus and fire of multiple framescwith ease.

      Hey, thanks for the comment, yes totally agree...for sports and wildlife, definitely stick to full frame, Canon and Sony and knocking it out of the park with their AS System. The GFX system is more for intentional photography which is slow paced. Each system has its pros and cons I suppose. Best of luck with your experiments.

    Fujifilm is really screwing this up, I bought x-h2S last month, it came with 7.0. I decided to return it, very disappointed, I needed it for my bird photography, and really I had hoped for it to be my main camera. I love Fujis colors but really it's little better than my Z6 first gen ad Panasonic G9.

    if you think the medium format look is shallow depth of field (and that is clearly what you think, as the GF 50 lens is not giving you that "look")....why not stay with full frame and buy a 1.2 or a 0.95 lens... it gives the same sort of depth of field

    • @sethiphotography
      @sethiphotography Месяц назад

      Hey, thanks for your comment, the medium format look isn't all about shallow depth of field. It's also about the angle of view. The 50mm lens on a full frame sensor has a tighter angle than on medium format. So the look achieved on medium can only be dont if you have a 40mm f1.1 on full frame. Voigtlander have released a manual focus 40mm f1.2 but its not an AF lens, lets not also forget about the Fujifilm colour science which isn't really possible to get on any other system without a massive amount of post production :)

      @@sethiphotography some things are subjective but there are some basic rules like cropping distracting elements near the edges that create tension and distract from you subject that are really not subjective. Sure you may find some examples where photos benefit from that but that doesn't happen often at all.
