What a brilliant last game! Love the voyage distant shore plays!
3:34 how did he give 2 curses? I don't get it
Practice plays an action twice
Oh then it is even more insane not going for the potion there
hello
Thanks for the uploads. When you show the kingdoms at the start can you show them for about 5-10 seconds instead of the 1 second thanks 😅😅
@@EnryEsho The idea is that if you want to read it, you can pause. I wouldn't mind showing it for longer, except that I actually find it easier to read the kingdom in the normal view (just because it's what I'm used to), and I don't want to make my opponent wait, or miss what the players are doing in this kind of video. If it's literally too short to pause on, I can try to lengthen it a bit, but that's probably all I can offer unfortunately. I'd also recommend the Dominion Strategy Wiki if you want to look at card text without having to pause on that screen.
Was going to comment about the missed win lol got there in the end
... and I managed to overlook the fact that buying one Stronghold would let me gain the others with Specialist. I was really not on my game here...
you can replay the game by undoing everything through the log! (yes, it's really dumb)
@@hulkmt Does that only work if the game is over? Because otherwise the interface doesn't seem to allow info undos
@@SharurFoF it doesn't allow you to "red" undo probably to make it clear that you're not supposed to be doing that (the game wont count as a win), but you can still do it using the log, even after the game ends for some reason :P
great video as always! also, just a little reminder that you don't need to click the small X on the corner of the cards to discard/trash them :)
@@hulkmt I know, but it feels better to
20:42 Just a small quibble with the post game analysis - the AI put their deck into discard Turn 4 (you can see it on the log) so they drew 5 random cards Turn 5 rather than 2 starting cards + 3 from the deck. So slightly more likely to collide fool's golds
FYI: the number of expansions used in the Daily changes through the week. Monday: 1 expansion + base Tuesday: 1 expansion Wednesday: 2 expansions Thursday: 2 expansions Friday: 3 expansions Saturday: full random Sunday: full random In case you're only selectively playing these, this info might allow you to see and record kingdoms with more expansions present.
the beat part of the daily is definetly trying to figure out what the hell the bot was doing lol
always fun listening to your commentary!
Hope you two keep doing commentary together! Always a blast to listen to
I think its not that uncommon for people to play Dominion for the game and just stay around for the community. I'll make a comparison with this channel: you are brought by the tactical and strategical advices, but you just keep coming for the songs. 😊. Thank you guys for the coverage. I watched some of my games back. Game 1: I'm not sure what I did wrong there. I felt like no matter what I do my opponent's deck was functioning better and also had more VP even with the lack of trashing and the (somewhat unreliable) Warlord attacks. I have to admit I somewhat overlooked the pileout at the end, but I'm not really sure if greening would have been better in the long term. Game 2 was unwinnable for my opponent, I got lucky there. Game 3: I disagree with you that I should have built more. Mystics would only have been slightly better than Silvers and basically all action cards I had were Silvers anyways. Our decks would have been unreliable no matter what we do. Also greening didn't hurt my deck too much because there was no trashing anyways and I had a lot of (nonterminal) Storerooms to sift. I didn't care about the Black Cat either. There was some chance that I'm getting some Curse but there was no way to set it up. (And I got pretty unlucky there but it didn't matter at all.) Game 4 was the most interesting to me. I didn't think anything against the Rebuild deck would have been competitive there but I was proved to be wrong. I'm not sure about my luck there. I guess it didn't really help that I didn't hit 5 in the second shuffle after opening Poacher/Silver. After that my draws were ok, I think. And yes, I totally forgot about the Gardens I bought earlier.:) I had a 1/6 chance to hit it.:) Game 5 was probably unwinnable for me. My opponent got an early advantage with all the Rat stuff. I kind of made a comeback there by adding payload a bit earlier, but somehow that didn't work out either. Game 6 I have to rewatch. I don't remember what happened there apart from getting obliterated.:) I guess I got a bit tired after 3 hours of game play.
G1 I had a lot of quibbles with your tactical choices in the latter half of the game, which I think I covered well enough during the commentary. G2 I think you're underrating how much better opening Raze was than opening Student. You could argue for Patron/Experiment to try to make sure you hit $5, but Student was for sure a bad choice. G3 It's true that you were probably just won regardless, but from a winning position I'd still prefer the line that reduces my variance/chance to get unlucky. I don't think it was important to start scoring first, because your deck was clearly better and capable of outscoring your opponent. They're only able to close the gap by starting to gain more Storerooms (even in that case, being down by 2 Minions still makes a huge difference), and if they do that you can always respond by scoring at that point. G4 I think this only looked close b/c you whiffed $4 for Seize 4 turns in a row. Which is one reason to get an early Souk. G5 I have a lot of quibbles with the tactical choices on both sides in this one, so I definitely wouldn't call it unwinnable. I think I covered it pretty well during the game, but getting Devil's Workshop, not opening Rats, and playing with Squire are all relevant considerations. G6 I preferred your opening, but not buying Foresight again T3 was a big missed opportunity. The fact that your opponent got a Quartermaster was huge, and lucky, but if you'd gone Foresight/Landing Party T3, I think you'd have been very likely to hit $5 quickly enough to pick one up yourself in time. As it was, your Vassal collided with your River Shrine, and you chose to play River Shrine instead of hitting $5, despite having no Estates to trash, which meant you didn't hit $5 that shuffle. Of course the Moneylender was also not useful, and these last two points suggest to me that you weren't taking into account how low a priority Copper trashing is with Enlightenment on the board.
@@SharurFoF Thanks for the detailed reply. I guess I will have to watch the full commentary some time. But right now I feel like I had enough of this match.
@@iras66 Haha yes, I wouldn't rewatch it in your shoes either :D
Mcpep4b05 here. It’s good to finally hear your voice 😆
The only upside to Samurai that I can see is that once you have one in play it makes Rice worth a minimum of $4 for the rest of the game. Which is really good but also only really helps in that one specific circumstance
Harsh Winter does apply to Rewards, I asked about this
Lol, "Endless Chalice nerf" really makes me laugh for some reason. Such a niche concern.
I think that one of the few times in which good harvest is better for engine than for money is when collection is available, and especially with quarry/collection. The sheer amount of buys and extra $ would lead to crazy fast 3 pilings with all the VP you could ever want
The podcast theme tune played so clearly in my head when strumphf said 'the game has ended' that I had to rewind a bit to check whether I imagined it or you actually put it in. That is all I have to say about these exciting dominion cards.
Samurai, if you're getting one every turn to attack, that seems really dicey. I think you're right that it's mostly a money card that mostly doesn't do enough to make you want to play money, BUT if you can spike it early enough it could be pretty good, and so if it cost any less I think it might be strong
I think you're underrating Ronin. If you're draw to X, it tends to have reliability issues, and this solves that. It never misses the shuffle. Plus, in a more normal drawing deck, you just get 1 of these to play early in your turn as a bunch of extra reliability. Normallyyou don'tmix draw to X with other draw, but with this you absolutely can. Not uber-incredible, but pretty good.
Yeah, I think the situation where you're not specifically playing dtx is what actually makes this card a lot better than Library and such. Not that it isn't also better in straight dtx, but straight dtx is rare enough that it can only be so good from that alone.
@@SharurFoF 💯
I think Imperial Envoy is going to be notably better than Barge. 1 card should be *significantly* better than 1 debt, in general. I put it below Margrave and generally the cursey drawers and Wharf, but above the rest. Maybe better than Torturer
I think the "Hunting Grounds problem" (even with big draw, you still need to gain about as many draw cards and villages to not have a high whiff rate, so the extra draw has decreasing marginal utility) is still real, but costing $5 does alleviate it. I can see it above Barge for sure, though on a board with both, I might start with one Barge, and I'd want a couple Barges, of course.
I feel like Kitsune is stronger than you seem to be giving credit for. Compared to Mountebank, this can give actions, it can gain a silver, it does the sun thing, it can't be blocked by curses, and it doesn't give out coppers. The last thing might well make it weaker overall, even given the first three, but it can't be that much worse? Plus this is a village, and sometimes you need those. Non-terminal junker! It looks very very strong to me. I think if Rice made 4 all the time, it wouldn't be all that strong even. (Well, money would be interested at that point, but not in a way that suddenly makes money the thing to do most of the time; also it's going to be bad in money obviously so that comparison isn't very useful). Mostly I think this is going to come down to, what are your options for +buy? And honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the Shadow we saw the other day ends up better, because this is a stop card and that isn't. Obviously if it makes like 9 or something, that is going to be nice, but also obviously, you can kind of figure that out looking at a kingdom way more than trying to rate this thing in a vacuum. Honestly Divine Wind doesn't seem *that* crazy to me. Medium, maybe medium plus crazy for the set. But Shadows still seem crazier to me. I don't think you're really going to be in such a "you don't know what game you're playing" or "it's a new game". There's a good chance you'll have a fairly functioning deck, provinces might already be fairly well out, almost regardless you're unlikely to have time to totally about-face and do a new strategy. Ok, you eventually came around to that point. Honestly feels Black Market-y to me.
@@WanderingWinder I agree that Rice isn't going to be strong, just solid. We were comparing it to Bank but Bank isn't very good. I think Kitsune is a lot worse than Mountebank, the Coppers are a huge difference. I think it's worse than the elite junkers (Sea Witch, Cultist, Witch, Old Witch, Siren, Torturer), but better than the rest (Charlatan and below).
@@WanderingWinder Also, when I say Divine Wind is the most ridiculous thing, I don't mean impactful or anything, I mean, well, ridiculous. It's ridiculous!
@SharurFoF I don't know what that means, I guess. To Me, other stuff is more ridiculous. But ok, not important
@@SharurFoF Is Siren super strong? In any case, I'm thinking Kitsune will be roughly in the middle of those. And yeah, I am about in the same overall place as you on Rice, just noting the one particular analogy
@@WanderingWinder Siren is really strong, the duration draw is fantastic.
Also I have gotten a second champion before, strategically. (Last shuffle, remodel variant turns it into province but not Hero) There's also the landmark which abhors uniques
I think +1 action +3 cards for 8 debt would actually be quite good.
The more I think about Fishmonger, the stronger I think it is. It's Market minus the action. And it costs 2. (Actually it's *mostly* better than that; obviously being minus the action is a big deal, and I don't think it's bonkers strong, but... well, stronger than it looked at first blush)
No way is this going to happen, but shadow cards would fit the theme perfectly in Dark Ages 2e (and actually alchemy 2e as well)
Riverboat only set aside 5 costs. I'd say it is really powerful and to me one of the sleepers of the set.
Oh wow, that's a big oversight on my part. And yeah, that makes it a lot stronger.
Divine Wind looks completely insane, not sure how they'll be able to translate it to the online version.
"If it was a 5, a 4 and a 3 you would gain 3 Destriers. But you can't because they are in the wrong order. Disaster!" You can't gain 3 Destriers cause they are in the right order. Donald X thought about everything!!
@@TheXtrategisT >:(
It turns out that I was wrong about Change - the way it works is that debt and potion costs basically don't matter, so long as the $ cost is higher. So you can, for example, turn a Copper into a Fortune for 8D, or a Curse into a Familiar for 3D. I have to admit that I am not a fan of this at all.
Thank you for doing these! So insightful
Rustic village contender for worst dominion art. Perspective is whack.
i really think ninja should cost 5. it seems pretty strong
@@huxinator2985 It does seem strong, but it's not really a card you want to spam, so I don't think making it cost $5 is necessary, and it might even make it more oppressive ala Berserker or Margrave.
You really make me laugh with the Growth and Governor discovery reaction.😆
Fishmonger feels like a coffer for every shuffle (with a +buy). It feels innocuous until it is not. Its like a Pageant's coffer. Just have to be cautious of not leaving it bottom. Its easy to undervalue it for sure.
@@TheXtrategisT It's a terminal Coffer, which is a pretty big limitation, but I do think that's a helpful framing.
I'm pretty sure Loot will indeed be affected by Panic. It is a pile, right? A non-supply one, but I don't think that matters. It's comparable to, like, Wisp going back to its pile when you horse it.
Yeah, apparently you can exchange Loot for a Changeling and it goes back onto the pile face down. Which is weird imo, but would surely mean that it can be returned by Panic as well. I would have expected it to be like the Black Market deck, where the hidden information component made it function as not a (normal) pile. At least you'll still get to keep your Coronet and Huge Turnip... I think?
Doesn't seem much different from butterflying a Knight or similar. In that case I guess you cover up the next one down, and everybody can try to remember what it was, rather than putting the top one back face down, but it seems essentially the same. The distinction with Black Market is I think just the fact that that's a 'deck' not a 'pile'.
@@saltroza2140 The difference is that you always know what the top Knight is. The fact that now you know what the second Knight down is, isn't something that returning the card has changed. But in the case of Loot you don't normally know what Loot you're going to get. Boons and Hexes, like the Black Market, have decks for this reason (or so it seems to me).
Hm, I don't think I follow. With Knights (and Ruins ofc) you normally know which one you're going to *get*, but not which one you're going to uncover (which can of course be really important! much more so with the Knights than the Ruins). Returning a card does change that (you now know which one you're going to uncover), which seems directly comparable to me. I'd have said the main reason Black Market uses a different designation is because you don't ever just take a card from the top of it (unlike how piles work), and with Hexes and Boons it's because you move the cards to a discard pile and then reshuffle once the deck has run out and you need to draw more (also unlike how piles work, and like how your deck works). But maybe it's inelegant that I'm using two different explanations for things being called 'deck'.
@@saltroza2140 Here's how I'd characterize it in general: - A pile is face-up and unshuffled (this includes your discard pile) - A deck is face-down and shuffled (this includes your draw deck) This would make Loot, Black Market, Boons, and Hexes decks, Wisp etc piles, and Ruins and Knights some horrible third thing. The ruling is what it is so it doesn't really matter. But I do think there's some terminological inconsistency.
10:49 that's a hell of a misclick
lol
The original mini-size Cornucopia is my favourite of all the Dominion expansions (we'll see how Rising Sun fares). I have favourite cards in every set, but Cornucopia has several of them. I like cards that are not OP, offer a tough choice and has the potential to be really strong, but not guaranteed to be a homerun every time (or else it's OP). Advisor is one of those cards.
it might of been possible to use fallen star and the failnaught with Chloe since it only costs one engage turn, but I guess it worked out anyway
Sorry, not sure what you're referring to
I realized while watching this that having Celica on Celine actually nerfs her in a way on this chapter. The boss is 2 HP short of one shorting Celine, but if you have resonance unlocked (which is pretty likely I think) you can’t attack the boss safely with Celine on player phase since even if he misses, resonance will activate on player phase and then enemy phase, and if he hits you the second time she’s done for. Pretty funny if you ask me
25:02 the most powerful ≈1% ever seen
