Autumn in Lapland - From Nikkaluokta to Abisko on Twisted Paths - 16 Days Solo Hike
This film is about a solo hike in Swedish and Norwegian Lapland in September. I did not follow the "standard" itinerary which is the famous King's trail (Kungsleden) but rather a zig-zag route through the mountains preferring less frequented areas.
The weather was very changeable (sun, rain, some snow) and oftentimes there was a strong wind. It was a memorable adventure in a beautiful landscape.
My rough route was as follows:
Nikkaluokta - Visttasvággi - Kaskasavagge - Tarfala - Guobirvággi - Gautelis - Čáihnavággi - Čunojávri - Alesjaure - Unna Visttasvággi - Vistas - Alisjávri (Sami Settlement) - Abiskojaure - Kårsavagge - Abisko

Rogen Nature Reserve (Sweden) - by Water and by Land

We spent some summer days in the Rogen Nature Reserve located in Sweden (close to the Norwegian border). Using a packraft and our feet we got an impression of the unique landscape in this area. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions we couldn't do all we wanted and the trip was shorter than planned.

Laugavegur in Iceland - Crowded but Beautiful
Просмотров 8893 года назад
This video is about a hike on Iceland's most famous (and crowded ;-)) trail in the summer of 2020. Laugavegur leads from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk across the Icelandic highlands (there is a continuation to Skógar which we didn't do). Due to the pandemic, in 2020 there were less hikers than usual - but still plenty. The landscape is really beautiful and thus I can recommend the trail.
Winter Days in Nikkaluokta (Swedish Lapland)

Early march 2020: Just before the global pandemic fully started my wife and I traveled to the Swedish village Nikkaluokta. In comparison to summer it was not very crowded. There are marked winter trails in the area, in p...

      Thanks for your question! My hike was from the 3rd to the 19th of September. I was using a down sleeping bag (Western Mountaineering) rated at roughly -5 °C. It lacked a bit in freezing temperatures because of its age (but I was fine with more clothing). I had it serviced since then and now it is much warmer again. My tent was a Hilleberg Unna 1 person tent. I will use the same setup (+ possibly a packraft) for this year's Lapland hike.

      Thanks a lot 🙂! I'm a beginner in packrafting myself. I don't have high ambitions and am happy to paddle on mostly calm waters. The trekking poles are by Novoflex. You can unscrew the handle and there is a tripod mount beneath.

      @stefan.rieger Месяц назад

      @@pikkea Possibly there are more trekking pole models that have this feature since we're living in the age of selfie sticks 🤣. A packraft gives you more options even if you're mostly hiking - it has happened to me that I got stuck due to high water levels on a hike. It's not something for ultralight, however. But I'm far from that anyway. If I would be, I could not have made the video in the first place 😉.

    Stunning video! The scene at 19:23 is just superb; I love the contrast between the autumn colours and the far snow-capped peaks. May I ask how many batteries did you carry for your camera? And did you also bring a solar charger or simply a normal one to charge them? Thanks!

    • @stefan.rieger
      @stefan.rieger Месяц назад

      Thank you very much, Giacomo! This is the beauty of autumn, that you can have both, the beautiful colors and a fresh dusting of snow on the peaks 🙂. I brought 5 spare batteries for my Sony A7RIII but didn't use them all. I also had two powerbanks (10000 mAh) for charging other devices, but didn't empty them either. In my opinion in late summer/autumn a solar charger usually isn't worth it in the high north. In mid summer this can be different for longer self-sustained trips (for me the break-even regarding weight was about 2,5-3 weeks). During that time of year you can charge till late in the evening or early in the morning. Of course it also depends on the weight of the charger, how much power you need, etc. There are very light and cheap USB chargers (~35g), which I can recommend. My camera supports charging in camera, too. So I bring the USB charger only if I suspect that my battery supply might not suffice or I plan with a lot of charging (also via solar).
