I find it odd that everything after heroes 3 seems hacky and outdated to me yet 3 still feels like the most well put together. The UI and general structure of the battles just seem so perfected in homm3. Maybe it is the push towards 2.5d that throws me off but 3 still feels like the best experience to me.

Damn... this is how you do a gameplay video. Clear, concise, engaging presenter voice, and used perfect visual aids for everything mentioned. Hate that I missed this KS. <_<
