Whatever anyone thinks of the original London Production....it will always have the better rendition of this scene...mostly because The Phantom is not wearing his mask...which makes Roul's reaction even better. Luke is so good!! ☺️👏 Thank you for sharing. I always have a place in my heart for this show.

I always had a feeling that Luke would be good in this. He was my first choice (as I knew Ramin would not do it again...and i suspect that JOJ would not want to either) if Love Never Dies ever did (or does) a UK TOUR. I do miss the part when The Phantom picks Christine up and sits her in the chair after she faints....like in the Australian production. Actor safety I imagine, of course.

Nobody will sing this to the perfection that is Ramin ❤️.... but Luke does a stellar job. ✨ I just can't understand the very unwise lyric and melody changes to "The Beauty Underneath." 🤔

I am not a fan of these changes at all. This is the most rock inspired and fun song in the show....but now it is boring.... especially when Luke is more than capable of singing the song as originally written and staged. I also don't like the Phantom getting Gustave to sing Christine's famous vocals. The point of this moment is that Gustave shares musical traits with The Phantom...his father. (Spoiler)

I LOVE how Erik can just turn on a dime from incredibly romantic one moment to downright creepy and threatening as heck the next. One moment he’s all ‘I’d die just to see your face’ and another he’s ‘sing for me or I’ll take your kid!’ 😆 I just love his character so much LOL And after swooning in his arms Christine is once again reminded as to why she initially went running to Raoul ‘once upon another time’ lol Only this time Christine is more mature, no longer really scared of him, and we see as the story progresses that she is more then capable of handling Erik’s weird mood swings. Frankly it would be exhausting to love a man like Erik, he is intensely romantic and can turn on the seduction like it’s nobody’s business…but yet you don’t want to get him angry, because he goes completely manic when he loses it.

I love how they added this line in from POTO! It’s sorta cements the Phantom as the eternal thorn in Raoul’s side, that Erik will continually claim Christine no matter what LOL. It kinda makes one wonder if Christine had never met the Phantom would she and Raoul’s marriage have been happy, or would he have still gone down the same path without the Opera Ghost almost literally haunting them? But then again would Raoul have even noticed Christine in the first place? She probably would have stayed in the ballet corps if the Phantom had never taught her, so she likely would have never reconnected with Raoul, interesting to think about. 🙂

I wish the camera had stayed more on Luke, but one must take what one can get 🙂 I love his little laugh before saying ‘you think so?’, he really knows how to turn on the sinister so well. And his grin when Raoul brings up Gustave, ‘are you so sure?’ 😆 I also love him throwing Raoul his coat in the end in disgust, you can tell he’s thinking ‘you are pathetic, be a man’ , before turning and slinking away…I love how how his voice echos ‘Devil Take the Hindmost’ all Ghostly like as he leaves, you can take the Phantom out of the Opera but you can’t take the Opera out of the Phantom LOL 😆

You can see when Erik’s jealousy starts rearing its ugly head and that old possessiveness comes roaring back. I LOVE how Luke just spits out ‘I know what Hammerstein is paying you!’ with such intensity, like the very thought of Christine singing for anyone other then him just fills him with pure rage. And Manon reacting immediately backing up into the corner as she sees the Phantom come out in him again, and tries in vain to stand up to him…but once Gustave comes running out he’s found her weakness and she knows she’s caught. I still think Christine is more hurt then anything by him here, hurt by the fact that he would pull this crap on her again…but she knows him too well and Eriks dark obsessive side will always be in conflict with his love for her, that’s just his psyche…both beautiful and horribly damaged.
