GREAT respect for you guys NOT riding on the grass but clearly staying on the trail, regardless of the huge mud ! You are a perfect example of taking care of our privilege to be out in such wonderful landscape. (with our bikes, jeeps, trucks....) Good work 👍
I did Island Park Idaho to Banff last year on a 690…. So I went up fleecer ridge. With a loaded bike it was super challenging to keep the front wheel down however I had success on the first attempt. People have no idea how steep that climb is unless you’ve seen it in person. Videos make it look so much mellower. You probably made the right (safe) choice.
That stretch between Atlantic City and Rawlins is one of my favorites!
Thanks for sharing
the following drone is pretty cool
Had you cut over to Henry's Lake from Monida (as opposed to from Lima), you would've avoided the muddy mess, South Valley Rd to the south of Lima Reservoir and Red Rock Lakes is well maintained gravel. North Valley Road sucks in both wet (muddy) and dry (dusty, silk).
Good to know! I’ll make note of that for when I’ll run this again at some point. Hard to know what sucks and what doesn’t unless you know the area haha
I may have missed it, what time of year was this? Was it early September?
Yes, I started Sept. 2nd
Beautiful part of the country!! I'm curious if you use tracks or routes with your GPS and where you got them from for this ride? That Skydio sure did a great job! I had been considering one myself, but procrastinated just enough to where that wasn't any option any longer. So, I upgraded to a Mini4 Pro....and it seems to have pretty good obstacle avoidance as well. Skydio good, I don't know, but they claim it has 360, so we shall see!
All the tracks are listed in the video description, I used a mix from other people and added some myself. For the Skydio there just isn’t a replacement, the DJI minis are great but the following is just not something that works for me, it’s too slow and having to have a controller doesn’t work well. You can still find used Skydio on Facebook marketplace and eBay from time to time
@@NikoKavallar I think the camera is probably better with the Mini4Pro, and for what I'll probably use it for, the obstacle avoidance is good enough I think. It seems that Kevin's routes are outdated at times, so I may steer clear of his stuff...although that just adds to the adventure I guess! I am curious though if you find the tracks option better to follow....or routes?
@twobikesandadrone Kevins routes are mostly good, I followed Meerkat ADV routes a lot but ran into some issue too. The most consistent ones seem to be from One Man Trail (find it on google). But in the end just get a bunch of them so if you find a roadblock you have alternatives ready
Hi Niko! Thanks for the videos. Love it! I just learned of these videos today, 6-7-2024. I have snowmobiled the Snow Range one time but never been there in the summer. Is the WY BDR possible in a 2024 two door Jeep Rubicon? End of August early September.
It absolutely is! I also got a Wrangler and the trails are definitely doable, though I also would advise not to do it when wet. It will also take longer in a Jeep so plan accordingly
@@NikoKavallar Thank you. My plan is in early August to do the Idaho BDR starting in Priest Lake, ID to Jarbidge, NV then down to Vegas for six days, then up through Utah to Colorado, and Wyoming then back to northern Minnesota. I am looking at six weeks but I have no time restraints. I am in the planning stages right now and I appreciate the help from people like yourself!
@The800Dragon happy to help! I know the BDR Facebook page also has overlanders on it and they may be able to give more info. It took me about 8-9 days for the WYBDR but I would imagine it will take a few days more in a vehicle
Recording quality is excellent. Very cinematic and enjoyable to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an excellent series sir! I enjoyed you sharing your adventure in this beautiful and challenging terrain. I look forward to your next one 💚 What was up with the Insta360? You didn't include any footage from it?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! The insta360 didn’t work out well, I couldn’t get it mounted in my bike so it was stable enough off-road so I just ended up using the GoPros
What are you using for upper body armor?
I use the Forcefield EX-K setup
@@NikoKavallar Thanks!
Cool stuff man. You ever ride the TAT? My brother and I rode from WV, to MS. Wish we would have recorded it. Such a good time. You've got me jealous though. That Wyoming trip, and now this... I'll have to add em to my to-do list.
Thanks! I’d would love to run the TAT and film it but alas I don’t have enough time off to make that happen since you need about 6 weeks, hopefully someday!
Thanks for sharing this amazing ride! Great production value and quality!! Very well done!!
Thanks, much appreciated!
Thanks so much for posting. Great job riding. You have inspired me to try this.
Glad to hear it! It’s an amazing adventure
You are awesome that first gear is just alittle high for the start on big hills
It really is, I did go down one tooth on the front sprocket which helps for sure but KTM should have done a better job with a wider gear ratio
21:28 Schweinhund
I certainly want to thank you for this series and the Wyoming videos. I've ridden everything from mopeds to Harleys and you are a good rider. Your videos are excellent. I look forward to seeing more.
I really appreciate it! Seems like you bunch watched the whole lot which is awesome haha. I will post more soon including some Utah footage from a few weeks back and then continue the Continental Divide trip though the rest of CO and NM this summer
The whole alpine loop area has long been on my bucket list. Thank you for making it all the more so
Thank you! This was actually not the Alpin Loop which is in the San Juan mountains around Ouray (I’ve done those a few times and it’s incredible) - in this Episode it’s the Keystone trails and passes between Leadville and Aspen
Seeing the sheep and the dogs sure brought back the days when the family had a ranch. We had seven thousand sheep and ran them in terrain very similar. Thanks again for the beautiful ride.
That’s awesome! I wish I could get a ranch somewhere in WY or MT… what life.
Got to love the big open. Great video.
You got that right!
Glad you got a good day Thanks for sharing.
What an interesting ride. Thanks for sharing.
The first half of the day was some of the best riding of the trip, the second half was some of the worst haha
Well, you soldiered on rain or not. Well done. Beautiful video
That was a rough day, but it’s all part of the adventure
Another beautiful ride. Torn bag? Duct tape forever😅😅
Sadly the bag want just torn but was missing a significant portion of material haha - luckily I had a spare one I could re-purpose otherwise it would have been a big duct tape mess
What a gloriously beautiful ride. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm from northwestern Wyoming and have been pretty much everywhere you went. I greatly enjoyed the videos and thank you for pleasure of watching them.😊
Glad you enjoyed them! Wyoming is such a special place … Check out my latest series on the Continental Divide Trail, lots of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming footage in there
I was the Louis Lake ranger at one time. Good to see the old turf again. Thanks. Good video.
Qhat a beautiful ride. So easy yet so fulfilling. Good video
Beaver Rim was great, pretty remote but beautiful
So, you got to ride the big open. Beautiful in it's own way Good video.
I love Wyoming, the big open is a special place
Mud? Well, welcome to Wyoming. Give it a few minutes and it will change. Not always for the better. I appreciate that you showed both the good and the bad.
When things get hard, the adventure starts haha
Apparently the mountain sheep had used up all the oxygen. Good video and good effort.
I was watching all your video's in one go. ( i have a lot of time ). And in this video i was like " damn AI thinks i want to hear this in German ( i am fr Belgium and sometimes media thinks i want to hear german of french or dutch). I really had to go into the comments to see it wasn't AI 😂
Haha love it! I’m sure AI will do some on the fly translations soon
Love how you created the "Trip & Route Overview". What software are you using to create that (I guess Relive! based on your clip)? Awesome video series, thanks for sharing!!
Yes, it’s an app called Relive - just plug in your gpx and it does the rest
A 701 decked out in rade garage parts is a dream setup of mine. One day I’ll have one lol great footage and editing thanks for uploading 🤙🏻
Thanks! Rede makes some awesome stuff, I do have their aux fuel tank - though the rally tower is Nomad ADV
@@NikoKavallar ah ok I knew for sure you had the aux tank but I did notice the tower looked different. It looks taller than the rade one, so probably more wind protection and room for your nav gear. I’m setting up my dr650 for the Utah bdr and I’ve been window shopping and building a 701 in my head haha
@Pinetreemoto the primary thing for me was expandability with power outlets, and extra wiring, for that I needed a tower that had room and the Nomad ADV was perfect for it. All of my mods are listed in the description if you’d like to know more details.
Smart choice. One of my rules to live by as I get older is "Suffering is optional." You did a great job completing Taylor Pass - very rowdy.
When you say don't do it on a 250L... lol. Did it on my 300L last fall. Glad you enjoyed my back yard.
Believe it or not but there is a big difference between the 250 and 300L haha. I was referring to my brothers particular one which had a lot of issues like overheating and his exhaust falling off. I’m sure the CRF250L and 300L can do this as well
The road that was closed due to fire I was evacuated from as I was camping at a fed site when the fire started and I was led out by a forestry person … on the paved road you bypassed the closed road on you went by a military camp that I may have been camping at (?) .
Yes exactly, the road was closed off and camera wasn’t rolling
I like your videos. I was wondering if you could add a list of your gear to the description.
All the bike mods and equipment is in the description. Are you looking for something but there?
Amazing trip and amazing footage. I totally respect your decision to finish another time. I can't wait to give it a go myself. I did the Trans Canada Adventure Trail from saskatchewan to the tip of Vancouver Island in two stints. It took way longer than anticipated. And just like yourself, I want to enjoy the trip and not make it into a race. Hats off to you sir !!
Fantastic series. With your use of maps and the drone you may be the best on RUclips at this. Trek Ethos is up there with you. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks so much for the kind words, I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
I can fully understand your decision. But please bring the sheep(s) 🐑🐏🐑🐏 back in 2024.
Haha I think I will, new signature sound
Great riding, much respect. Going through boulders, especially loose ones is no joke. Thanks for taking us on your journey thus far and am looking forward to when you finish it out!
Thanks, much appreciated!
What Drone do you use?
I use a Skydio 2+, the only one that can track like this. Sadly they are no longer being made
With all those passes your previous episode (7) still had more elevation gain by 6K feet! Glad you got another drone for footage, did you get the new tires on too?
I ended up not using the new tires, there was too much other stuff that day to work on so I didn’t have enough time to mount them
Hey Niko, just found your channel. Great footage. I’m doing a 4,000 mile ride with an old buddy, Simon, in May and June heading out from south of Boston. I’m from the UK and have been lucky enough to have Simon doing the tech bits like where we’re going and staying. 22 days in all. Like you were recording it for exactly the reasons you are. I’m 65 and want to be able to recall my trip and bore my friends and family. A question if I may (and apologies if you covered it before) what mods have you done to your bike? I have a 2023 701 Enduro which has the Euro5 lean running issues. Yours sounds sweet. My trip in May will be aboard a 2019 690 Enduro with a ton of mods. Many thanks, Ian
Thanks Ian, sounds like an amazing adventure you’re going on! All my bike mods are listed in the description, let me know if you have specific questions
Rofl Grüße aus Stuttgart ... Geile vlog Serie , Episoden 5-7 fand ich bisher am besten, Prädikat " No BS just riding" ...
Oh my goodness these roads are rugged haha. I felt that stall at 8:14 haha, from someone who hikes often I never thought Id want to go off-roading on a bike until I watched this video. It seems like it takes a lot of skill to handle the weight of the bike going over those rocks and bumps. Great video. Thank you for the upload!
Bike off-roading is a to of fun in the mountains. I usually refer to it as Moto-hiking haha - the nice thing is that you can cover a lot of ground and see thing that would otherwise take you multiple days to hike to
Good decision! Those rocky roads on Taylor Pass would of freaked me out. I'm amazed how you guys got through there. When you're exhausted and the fun starts to go it's time to head home. Great series of adventures!
Taylor pass was really though, I won’t do it again with luggage - it’s way worse than it looks haha. Thanks for watching!
This is an awesome review of your adventure. Would you consider sharing your GPX?
I used the tracks listed in the video description, I’ll publish my own recordings once I complete the trip but between Meerkats / GPS Kevin / Cannonshot it’s all there
