Okay so when I was in middle school we had to choose a topic and write and present a speech on it. It was a very big assignment and one person from every class got voted on to “go to the gym” to give their speech during an assembly. When I was in grade 7 I wrote my speech on book covers and the importance of them. I also used primary data by surveying my class about the effectiveness of two very different book covers: twilight, and Uglies, which had super different approaches to book covers. Funnily enough I think I was very anti the twilight book covers because of their minimalist look and so I used the survey results to back that up. I think I was judging effectiveness by how much the cover told you about the book vs the effectiveness was it being eye catching. So I don’t know how accurate my speech was but I did get voted to go to the gym so there’s that.

Christian fiction marketing opinion/advice: If Jesus is at the center of your story, don't hide it. God knows how to bring you readers. Pray for guidance and wisdom; Jesus should take part in the writing/marketing process too. ♥

Conservative Christian homeschooler boundaries in reading is quite the entertaining conversation that pops up occasionally in the writing community I'm a part of. XD And the debate of marketing as Christian Fiction or not is one my best friend and I have discussed at length. I've thought of having two different pen names; one for the very Christian Fiction books I write, and one for those that are less Christian Fiction-y, but still contain the values I believe in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject ^-^ Also, welcome back briefly until your battery situation is resolved.

Also fun fact about me is I used to collect tissue boxes as a kid bc I liked all the different designs and they were fun for crafts but mostly I liked the different designs and eventually my mom was like girl you’re drowning in empty tissue boxes this is unsustainable and so she got me a binder and I would cut the one side of of the box to “collect” the pattern and put that in the binder and the rest of the tissue box was thrown out

When it came to the Nanowrimo drama, it was more like a last straw thing for a lot of people. They had acted "holier than thou" only to be proven to be doing that every good person on Earth can agree on as being wrong; taking adventure of kids in an adult way is wrong. They had hurt people of different faiths, first responders and their families, different communities all over the world, etc. Honestly they should have just stuck to focusing on bringing the world together through writing, instead of trying to play morally in realms that are grey and confusing. Will they learn from it long-term? If they don't, they'll eventually not exist. It's a sink or swim situation. Whatever happens to Nanowrimo, don't stop writing. If you're passionate about it, absolutely keep going! It's your life.

I'm so sorry all the nano drama had you so stressed. It was a lot and I totally agree with you about all of the cancel culture stuff.

I agree with you 💯%. I dont like what happened, but I chose to keep my NaNo account, because they have literally the best word count tracker, and I have tried multiple. Hearing about the scandal did contribute to the dwindled morivation i was going through when it came out. I have complete respect for the people who are choosing to not use the website; I do not support the immoral actions of what happened but NaNoWriMo is my documented progress of the years I've been writing. I never used anything except the tracker anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've had problems with NaNo (The organization) for a while, in part because of how they treated the Dutch MLs. (I'm not Dutch, my info is second hand). And now this massive delay in handling an issue with minor safety. HOWEVER, I still have an account. I gain value by using it during events. I like my little graph. I did scrape the word "NaNo" off a sticker on my laptop when I was most upset, but I'm sticking around for now. MOST of the writers that I know have not deleted their accounts, although many of them are holding off on supporting them through merch or donations until things are truly resolved. Please don't let anyone pressure you. Deleting your account doesn't do anything to help those kids. If anything, staying and holding the remaining staff to a real standard moving forward does more.

I never even heard of this, but by a quick check, it looks like Nano handled it? With an organization as big as it is, something always falls through the cracks. I've been a participant since 2008, and this is the first time I've ever heard anything negative--which for a company as big and wide-spread as it is, it's an excellent record. Considering they encourage group meetups, it's amazing that something horrible hasn't happened much sooner. There's just no way to police such a large and international forum and boycotting Nano is not going to help anything at all. Building a stronger and more aware community will have a greater impact than the good people leaving en masse. Anywho, that's my 2c. See ya.

I'm with you. I think people should keep writing and using the site (not the forums), but don't support them monetarily until things are resolved. So just don't buy merch, etc. I've seen a LOT of virtue signaling going on in the form of "You're supporting gr**mers if you don't drop out!" It's ridiculous. I accidentally went on about it for probably 5 minutes in a recent video. Just found you today, and looking forward to seeing more from you!

I’m currently reading “Chivalry” by Maurice Keen to obtain my next HEMA belt. It covered much of this common ground, and it also gave me great insight for the book series that I’m working on. I’m hoping that the historical value will add dynamic to the story. Good luck with your own!

Okay, as someone who has been watching you through this entire journey, you are VERY CLOSE to being finished with the rewrites. Seems to me you ran with what you felt needed to be done. If you think its time to set the rewrites down and return to your King Arthur series, do it! You are your own boss... then again, you are your own boss and can give yourself the task to finish before going to the next project. ... Reward yourself by going back to King Arthur, for completing what you started. ♥ You'll know what you should do.
