    I was with Amber last year after installing solar and battery. My 1st two monthly bills were nearly $500. Trying to get Amber on the phone is impossible, you have to send an email and they get back to you within 3-5 days. Most of my feed-in was in the negative until finally Amber told me one of my inverters was not supported , so I changed back to a traditional energy retailer. I do like the Amber concept of buying wholesale but not being able to discuss anything with them on the phone is a very poor business model. Hopefully they change and improve their customer service and update compatibility of inverters.

    I used your "get a quote" function on your website that gave an estimated bill of $87/Month. Thinking this to be great I joined but my first 2 bills have been $391.38 & $373.62 which is a great difference that the $87 indicated. Of course my bills probably would be far less if I could use the smartshift app but you dont mention that you do not have the ability to use the app with a SonnenBatterie. Maybe you should change your "How Amber for Batteries works" to How Amber for some Batteries work"

    You dont mention that this does not apply to all batteries. Nobody can tell me when you will be able to control my SonnenBatterie. Very disappointing.

    I changed over to Amber & found some things that really need to be considered that are not made clear before joining. I used their quote function on their website that gave me a figure of $87/Month. Firstly I was sold on the battery option where they can control your battery & use it more efficiently but after joining I found tat my Sonnen Battery is not compatible with their app & they cant provide me with a date it would be compatible. Secondly people should be aware that the volatility can cause huge increases in the wholesale market. For example on 1 single day the charge was $73.61 just for the E1 usage with the maximum price at just under $14/kWh. This was just with normal usage. Thirdly you can end up paying for exporting electricity into the grid, currently this month for exporting 120kWh into the grid I have had to pay $8.69 (I dont know who this money goes to. So in summary I received a quote from Amber (Using their website) of $87/Month & my first 2 months bills have been $391.38 (Jun-Jul 2024) & $373.62 (Jul-Aug). Currently this billing cycle I am around $130.00. Be aware Amber maybe good for some so do your homework.

      Mate, your comment is extremely (exportant). I'm either going to off my feed-in or run with Amber. You've prompted me to enquire if I can turn off the negative feed-in component while still remaining on their SmartShift setting, before I run with them. I've got 2 Powerwalls so they are compatible. Thx brother.

    Awesome energy model. We made some good money over winter. Now $1200 in credit. What I'd prefer to see is an option for the battery to charge from 10 am, not from sunrise.

    Is there a way to automate control a large load through the app? I want to run my pool heat pump when pricing is low or negative.

    • @defaultHandle1110
      @defaultHandle1110 3 месяца назад

      Do you have solar panels as well ?

    • @whophd
      @whophd 3 месяца назад

      The key is to have big things like that (pool pump, electric hot water) on a timer control. Some of the latest heat pump based hot water tanks do NOT have timers, and just “top up” every time you use the shower, etc. But I have the one made in Perth WA that has a timer, and whether the sun shines or not, the price is cheapest after breakfast and everyone’s gone to work. Years ago I set it to run 10am-2pm until full, and that’s worked and I never touch the settings anymore. So coming back to your pool heat pump: You want the same. I’m definitely hoping that your pool can be heated in under 4-6 hours of operation a day? Let’s say that’s enough, okay then: I can tell you after years of using Amber wholesale tariffs that the grid’s behaviour is totally predictable in terms of the “duck curve” - I don’t know WHAT the price will be, but I know it WILL be cheapest when the sun is up high, behind the clouds or not. But even more importantly is the other reply’s question: Do you have solar? Because solar is crazy man, crazy in the best way … you can’t USE all the solar you make in summer. I challenge anyone to use even 50%-75% of their solar output during 6-9 months of the year, even for a minute, with a typical new system of 10-12 kW (say, 30 panels, which my tiny old house, 100 years old, smallest on the street, hasn’t even filled the roof). The ONLY way to use that kind of raw power is with a specific kind of EV that happens to be able to draw >10 kW and also happens to be empty and at home in the middle of the day … i.e., it was only just driven to empty after breakfast. Typical daily solar output is 40 kWh to 80 kWh on new systems, on sunny days in the summer half of the year, and that’s going to reach 50-100 kWh any day now. How big is your EV and how often do you drive it to empty? Point is, plenty left for your pool heat pump. But that brings us back to the point of Amber for Batteries and getting paid to HELP the grid: Solar exports need to be shared and managed between and within neighbourhoods. You SHOULD be rewarded for assisting the grid during its hour of need (dinner time!). VPPs make a ton of sense. And Amber for Batteries is the VPP that you fully control, no lock-in.

    • @mattlamb34
      @mattlamb34 2 месяца назад

      Yes, I do have 5kw solar system and its largely self consumed (work from home). I currently run heat pump on a timer like you say but I would prefer to automate based on pricing. Similar when charging an EV, I could leave it plugged in and only charge when pricing meets a minimum threshold. It would be great if Amber had functionality with this to easily pull this data and make automation. I can run a digital input (remote start) to my heat pump and I'm pretty sure the car charger too.

    • @whophd
      @whophd 2 месяца назад

      @@mattlamb34 I've had the heat pump on timer for nearly 2 years and am pretty sure that the 3-hour window I use is already ideal (and I only need 1.5 to 2 hours), looking at the price history regularly. Any further kind of optimisation would basically save me cents, maybe a few dollars a year? I can barely see it possible.

    Just curious can you stop amber from importing overnight? Last night I received 5.6kw of power from grid after it dumped battery to grid. On a normal night I normally have around 30% of battery left when I wake around 4:30-5. I would rather dump what I have left until sun comes up to start chargering again then dump during the night and have to buy it back. Would I be better with battery booster? Also I have automatated curtailment on but it’s still feeding back to grid?

    • @IpozBiz
      @IpozBiz 3 месяца назад

      We disconnect our Tesla II from the grid overnight to prevent power coming in from the grid. Of course, you need to set your reserve on the battery to ~ 10% and also ensure you have sufficient capacity left in the battery to cover overnight usage.

We are family of 4 and three are in the fields of engineering and my wife in health industry. We work in different schedules. Sometimes all at home, sometimes no one at home. We are a bit frustrated when we cannot do much. I wish we have the option to control it manually and leave it automated using Smart Shift. I believe that it is actually what the principle for this Smart Shift technology, using technology for the environment and at the same time saving/earning money. At the moment, I lost the option of charging from grid or solar in Tesla apps. In Amber Apps: 1. I could not find what you are saying discharging manually. 2. I could not see also “Automated Solar Curtailment” option? 3. I could not see also “Control my Battery” tab? At the moment, it doesn’t discharge at peak rate. It charge from grid before sunrise to full and export my solar production at 1-2c sometime negative FIT. Is my program complete? Or still in progress? I watch the video 3 times and at the same time making notes. m.ruclips.net/video/4mZmN-tWg0E/видео.html

    Dont bother if you actually have Solar.. you will pay a negative Feed in Tariff while what should have been your Feed in Tariff is shifted to offset those who dont to as low as 2cents. So the fiscally irresponsible reap the benefits of your solar install Perhaps if Amber had of had the smarts to never have Negative FiT's, and shifted the balance back. So people pay 8cents at the lowest, theyre still doing a whole tonne better than what the major corporations are demanding. And this way you may actually retain some Solar owning Customers

      @@701malibu yeah I’ve heard that too and apparently some batteries have a mandated minimum amount built in that the battery doesn’t go below. Great video. I will be signing up ASAP but I’m waiting for Amber to be compatible with a Sungrow inverter and battery stack. Any idea when this will be?

      Hi Donald, thanks for your message. We're about to launch our integration with Sungrow in the next two weeks, actually! So if you sign up for Amber by around mid April you will be able to onboard your Sungrow battery onto Amber for Batteries.

      my sungrow inverter is not compatible with amber curtailment, it either shut it down or leave it on during negative FiT period, which means I either pay to import or pay to export. @@MyAdelaide

    Just sign-in (5 days ago). Can't wait for a couple my PW2 and for the implementation of EV charging management. :-) So far mind blow. I should know about your guys 1,5 years ago. :-))))
