Welcome to my channel, Homeowner DIY. This channel is all about DIY. I started my journey about 20 years ago. By trade, I am a ticketed plumber. The only trade on this channel that is "professional", is plumbing. The rest I learned either in construction or over the years maintaining a rental. I will try to post a project and week as well as couple weekly tips of: incorrect installs, tools, tips/tricks, and anyting else I come across. Here you will learn:
Roofing
Automotive
plumbing
electrical
framing
drywall
Just to name a few.

If this was a video to replace the fuel filter on a 94-97 Honda Accord, it would be an hour longer and demonetized due to lots of swearing. 😅
Thanks for your comment, there was lots of swearing when trying to put the bracket bolt back. Hence the fast forward😅
Thank you. I am trying to learn to do some of my own plumbing for a 1948 ranch project house. I appreciate anything that you can share. By the way, listing the tool and supply list in advance is very helpful. Any advice for my existing Pex lines running to the kitchen sink behind the cabinets on an exterior wall and insulation. They seem to freeze here in WI two years in a row. Thanks again.
Thanks for your question, are the cabinets removable that you can get to the exterior wall to insulate? I have a few options for you but I need to know what would make the most practical sense.
@@HomeownerDIY Yes. I already moved them to get access to the pipes. No insulation on the Pex or the wall really. I would appreciate any advice.
I built a mechanical wall for the laundry I installed. The idea was to not run in an exterior wall because the insulation, poly and drywall. Please check out the link and let me know if this approach would work for you. Laundry box install #3: Part 1(Adding a laundry to an existing drain) ruclips.net/video/Vw2cAc5JuUc/видео.html
Can you confirm if the bulb is a T10 model?
Thanks for your question, the bulb 194NA is the same as the chart for the car. I can't get more specific than that, I am not knowledgable enough with cars sorry. Why not just buy the exact same bulb?
@@HomeownerDIY Oh, I wasn't asking about the model of the bulb itself, sorry for the misunderstanding, if you look for T10 car bulbs you will find replacements of different brands and prices, in my case I don't want to buy exactly the original because I want to change the white LED ones since I don't like the yellow halogen bulbs a bit.
I have never installed an LED bulb for a car. My suggestion is go to a Honda Fit forum, the guys there I am sure will be able to help you since they have experience modding their own cars.
@@HomeownerDIY I have already done conversions to full LED but in the Honda Fit of the next generation 2015 onwards I think my mother has one, I currently drive one like the one you have, it really is not that complicated to change to LED you just need to buy good quality bulbs and for the warnings you need to change a relay or put resistors (nothing complicated) but as I had never done it in this generation I searched on RUclips and that's how some bulbs are changed.
I have never done any kind of mod to a car myself. I would have to research before attempting anything.
Subscribed, thanks
Welcome to the community!!😄
Never crank without sparkplug. Remove the distributor before crank test.
Thanks for your comment, feel free to take whatever approach you want.
What are the names of the tools you used please
Thanks for your comment, l used a Milwaukee cordless drill. The bit was a 2 9/16 Lennox self feeding bit.
That’s why I used Pex A in my house. The Pex A fitting are full flow so no flow restriction.
Thanks for your comment, we normally use B pex because its faster and also will work with A universally. I am assuming its cheaper too😅
What's a "swoop"?
Thanks for your question, its a bend. Instead of using 90's swoops/bends are better for flow and the bank account!!
Pex is flexible, use less elbows...
Thanks for your comment, using less fittings is what l was getting at.
3/4 pex is the same size as 1/2 copper. This is all undersized. Talk about flow restriction.......
Thanks for your comment, ,based on fixture size it would *probably* pass here. Note one thing, I have never failed for waterpipe sizing ever. Drainage yes.
@@HomeownerDIY yup. Nothing to do with code. Just better plumbing.
If they're going up through the floor into the stops then the extra 90s are good. Allows a clean perpendicular penetration that can be strapped tight and will look good in the cabinet. Swooping it angles the pipe and looks messy at the endline.
Thanks for you comment, I don't swoop in cabinets, as you said they look messy. Behind the wall you can make it look neat using clips but there is a limitation of course.
that waste pipe at 2:47 we come straight up then a tee straight out eliminates the cleanout then if an offset is needed above do it in the vent section above. note, a trap adapter is an approved cleanout where I am at
Thanks for you comment, I would of come straight out and offset the vent, the same way as you stated. As for the clean out, we can use a long sweet tee to elinimate the clean out in cast iron, but you cant get long sweep tees in ABS in Canada.
Can we talk about all the lines running outside the joist and the crazy nail plate job in the bottom of the frame at 0:45?
Thanks for you comment, those are AC lines. I also noticed the size of notches they did for plates. Normally I would do 1/4" bigger per side. Its a common hack job to see this type of thing here. Remember all exterior walls are also load bearing so take out just what you need!
I was interested in what a garberator was. Was like ahhh, that. Regional naming is always interesting/
Thanks for you comment, most people call it a garbage disposal. Damn Canadians EH?!?!
Just watching this and I was just adding up the cost of all these 90 degree fittings.
Thanks for your comment, today, l would say its about $2.50 for the 90 and rings each. Based on what I saw I would guess around $30 in extra fittings. Also keep in mind that 3/4" will cost more.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
No cleaning the lead? No soldering the lead to the brass flange?
Thanks for your question, atleast where l am, the flange gets secured to the floor and the lead gets "rolled" over it. Or tapped into place because lead is malleable. Personally, l have never seen lead soldered to brass in any type of situation. It may be different in other places. I think the screws holding the flange to the floor will be the first to rot out so if the lead and flange were soldered together it would have to be sweat appart to replace the flange. Hope that helps.
I think you can make it yourself, just loook and learn from WoodPrix .
Great video. Thanks brother 🤙
Hi, I'm a newbie. What kind of grease you put on the pads? Could you please recommend me a brand to look for ? Thanks
Thanks for you question, I used bearing grease but if you want to use brake grease here is a link: www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/permatex-24127-silicone-ceramic-brake-lubricant-orange-28-g-0381412p.html?rq=brake+grease Dont worry about the store, but this tube of grease is similiar to the size of travelling toothpaste. I used bearing grease because I already had it but both will work. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this same issue and reason for flush thank you.
Happy to help!!
Never heard a sink garbage disposal called a garberator but I guess it works. Haha. I have installed many of these also. Good video.
Thanks for your comment, we normally say "Garb" but that too Canadian so garberator it is!! I think garbage disposal makes people think they can throw a mattress into it and it will be ground down into nothing haha!
Is it same for 96 regal?
Thanks for your question, since its a different generation, 50/50 if its the same design. Does it look the same?
Not the prettiest trap but good job on the sink. Always wondered how they were secured to the wall.
Thanks for your comment, when it comes to retrofits, you need to work with what you have.
@@HomeownerDIY For sure. Like I said, good job and informative video.
“The branches go toward the spout. If you put it the wrong way the handles turn the wrong way.” Thank you! I don’t have branches on mine but I’m sure I can figure it out now
Thanks for your comment, is one marked hot/cold on yours? Its very common to have one of the H/C bodies marked so they dont get installed backwards.
@@HomeownerDIYoh yes, one is hot and other is cold. They’re in the correct hole except my hot handle is turning towards the wall instead of towards the user. It’s not so detailed as to how to position the inside cartridge.
@dianabasmajian3872 So the cold turns toward the spout and the hot turns towards the wall? They both turn clockwise?
Very good video thank you
it's safe for the engine not using distilled water for flushing?
Thanks for your question, l would say yes its safe. The manual says nothing about the type of water that can be used so l dont think it would be an issue. I have been doing coolant flushes on this car this car since 2008, never ran into a problem using the method shown.
So wait. Why would you need to get both when you can just get the security ones and use them for both?
Thanks for your question, the regular came with my socket set. If youre going to buy a set, buy the tamper proof set only.
I will be really appreciate if you can answer me a question, my friend has a very old house in Canada Quebec, there’s a 1.5" vent pipe in the end of a tolite (beginning of the main 4"pipe, and theres no vent pipe behind either the tolite shower nor sink, is it normal? thanks for anyone who can respond
Thanks for your question, is the piping original to the house(Metal piping)? Codes have changed over the years. Are there any drainage issues?
This is an awesome video! I’ve done break pad replacements before but just was seeing if there was anything funky or out of the ordinary with this make and model. Even though it’s a pretty basic replacement I watch your video all the way through just because the detail of explanation. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I initially replaced the zone valve motor which did not fix the issue, and when I opened up the valve it turns out the ball had totally disintegrated. Easy swap, everything works again 😊
Happy to help!!
Just FYI, on the distributor if you remove the plug off of the metal stand that holds it in place then the plug will come apart. There is a tab that is under the metal part that holds the distributor on the plug itself.
Thanks for your comment, I will keep that in mind the next time I have to work on the distributor!
You're a legend, man. Thank you!
Happy to help!!😄
I need help with my table saw, it turns on but stops and the breaker will trip, I can smell a little bit of burnt
Thanks for your question, it sounds like a dead short. Have you tested the motor?
I’m about to change the circuit switch, let’s see if that will fix the problem, I just ordered so it will take a few weeks and I will get back to you, thank you for the reply
@jaimemoreno3998 Please let me know!
@@HomeownerDIY hello 👋, brother I just changed the switch circuit and still not working, it looks likes is going to work and it just stop running
I haven’t used this table saw at all only a few times and it’s not working
Super straight forward and to the point. Truly appreciate this quick video.
Thanks for your comment, please check out the plumbing playlist, its quite comprehensive!
@@HomeownerDIY I am working on redoing under our kitchen sink. Our dishwasher is connected to our cold water lines… I have no idea why that happened. We also live in a mobile home with well water, so our lines are the grey Poly B throughout. I know we have well water and the connections that I’ve seen are solid, so I don’t have any real concern about other areas of the house. I am more or less just planning to get our dishwasher on our hot line and put a stop valve with a 1/4 compression if we decide to upgrade our fridge in the near future. I am planning to use two of these adapters to tap into the water line coming from under our house, after the stop valve. I am going to use a 1/2 blue and red PEX line from that adapter. I am going to use a turn stop with 1/4 on cold PEX for fridge and turn stop with 3/8 on hot PEX for dishwasher. I also found an adapter to go from PEX to 1/2 female to connect to the faucet. Sorry if this is a confusing message.
@lrodzen The DW was probably crossed by mistake. Is there a hammer arrester(Bumper) on the supply to the DW? If not make sure you install one. I personally would rerun everything in pex. The barb of the fitting is different from poly B and you cant get poly B fittings anymore unless you reuse. If you need any help: Ask away!
Thanks for the video and work you put doing it. Some of the Amazon items you put on sale, shows not available. How and where did you learn roofing skills?
Thanks for your comment, which items are showing as not available? They all seem to work on my end. I spent 15 years in construction, from that time I learned to "Steal with my eyes" for alot of things. I paid attention to how others did things. A lot of the time if you asked nicely people would tell you what the code is for what they're doing. I think the single biggest thing for me is the passion to learn how to do other things. One trade will overlap another to a degree. Keep in mind this is overall about 20 years of experience at work. Another way of learning is seeing how things were put together when you take them apart. You just have to make the distinction when you see incorrectly done work as well.
Any need to anchor it to the floor with concrete screws?
Thanks for your question, in construction we never did use concrete screws. We never failed for it either. You can if you want, but its not needed, atleast not where l am.
Good stuff. Appreciate it. Your audio and enunciation was better when you were outside on the roof 😅.
Thanks for your comment, l am too poor to use a mic at the moment. As for my enunciation, when l was inside l think l was at 11 hours for my working day. I pushed to get the base and cap sheet done assuming my help was coming the next day. It didnt happen so l did more work than was necessary. Welcome to working for yourself!!
For the 6:16 harness, firstly you need to take the whole thing off horizontally, then it’s much easier to take the distributor connection off
Thanks for your comment, I will keep this in mind next time l need to work on the distributor.
That whole area needs to be removed and redone. It needs new metal in the valley starting where the top valley is slide under it with new metal the. Redo the shingles. You can’t just wedge a shingle under there , temporarily it may work but this is hardcore amateur hour all around.
The remarkable thing is l said in the video 3 times, its not a proper fix, l dont have authorization to do a proper fix and youre saying its amateur hour... If l said it 4 times would l have gotten the message across? Oh wait!!! I technicially did say it 4 times because l also wrote it in the description its not a proper fix. The take away from the video is you cant have nails in a valley.
Right
@@HomeownerDIY If I came across that, I would say this whole thing needs to be redone and refused to try and throw a shingle in that valley. that is a joke, that is amateur hour. I would rather not do a job then do it wrong. you do you. I'll say it three times if you'd like.
I would never neeger rig any job like that
@@HomeownerDIY It's not a proper fix, yet that is how you fixed it. I am aware there should not be nails in the valley but you dont fix it by covering it with a shingle.
The problem, your shingle to the right of the valley that slid under the step flashing. That shingle should also slide under the same upper valley as the first shingle. The amount of water coming down the valley is going to work it's way under that second shingle and possibly the first shingle from the damming effect of nowhere else to go. That's just my opinion. Everything else looks good for what you had to work with for a quick fix.
Thanks for your comment, I agree it should of went under, I think there was a nail holding the flashing down so I couldnt slide under it. I think the area just to the bottom of the upper valley was also lower creating a pocket for water to pool. I guess at the least I could of cut it the shingle back to allow water to flow down. Thanks for your input, I will keep it in mind next time I come a cross something like this.
17:27 - he doesn't say it, but put cap on and close the valve, then take car for quick spin around the block
Thanks for your comment, since l cant see the film till after l finish the job, sometimes l do miss mentioning things. Thanks for pointing it out!!
I forced it for 2 years lol
Being a Honda, it kept going!!😌
@@HomeownerDIY honestly got a $30 one off eBay so hopefully this one last a good 4-5 years as long as I grease it because the last one was caked in dirt and dry as hell🤣
Make sure you spray it with silicone spray! Especially if the car is parked outside. ruclips.net/video/QDUyICh_zIE/видео.html

What fuse is linked to this side marker light? The bulb is fine, but the left side light is out. Can’t decipher what fuse is associated with this bulb.
Thanks for your question, a post on a Honda Forum says its #29.
@@HomeownerDIY thanks for the answer, but that didn’t seem to be it. The mystery continues…. ;)
Use the process of elimination, go through the 10A fuses one by one. There is nothing on the diagram on my car that says what is what. I have 2 right and 2 left head light fuses....🤨
