This is not a guide video, like my previous two. Instead, it is an assembly video with no commentary, as a means to pay respects to a fallen friend. Thank you Postman, for everything.

Famicom Cartridge Maintenance - Fenris Fixes #1
Hmm a bit too risky. These games are getting more expensive by the day. I guess when the 'conventional' way of cleaning the contacts doesn't work, this is the way to go. Great video. 👍
Very interested. I didn't know any of this nor have a seen an MVS cart restore before. Very cool!
@JDPeters538 thank you! I have other video ideas relating to Neo Geo carts, I just need the parts to get them rolling.
Great job!
10 out of 10... waku waku again

Can I have ur games :333
The intro made my cat look like an addict smelling crack
Hey webslinger! Great video, I learned a lot. Good luck battling Doc Ock!!
Isn't that the message where the clock battery is dead or the time needs to be set? When you're booting a GameCube, you can hold A on controller 1 to get to the menu by the way.
@epochVHS thanks for the info! It's been a while since I had to work on a Gamecube to this extent, so my mind was drawing a blank on what the error message meant. 😅
@@fenriswolfretro6729 no worries at all! Your channel is fascinating to me as I brought back a bunch of Famicoms and stuff to fix up after my last trip to Japan and now I'm eating up content about doing just that as my project list is getting shorter.
Enjoyed the Famicon model revisions background information. Excited for the video where you dig into fixing up that GameCube.
Awesome work as always Fenris Wolf Retro
Awesome, not enough MVS content on youtube
@FeliciaByNature Thank you! I have more MVS related content on the chopping block, just gotta gather the rest of the needed materials :)
ATTENTION! 15:30 - 17:20 contains a critical editing error. Idk what happened, but the soldering footage here got played in reverse, but for some reason comes up normal on the project files.
Really cool and interesting stuff! I need more glove work too!
How come these chips are dying? Are there modern replacements or will there be?
There are multiple factors as to why these ICs are failing. Be it environmental, factory defects, chiprot, etc. As far as replacements, you have some options depending on what needs to be replaced.
Nice where did you learn about converting MVS games from?
Their isn't really a direct guide on how to do it, as their are multiple different MVS boards with their own set of limitations and oddities. Most of it comes from comparing various boards on mvs-scans.com with their ROM dumps, to find similarities in jumper settings. While some of it comes from what is documented on the Neo Geo Development Wiki.
Let's get er done 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻✨️✨️✨️
I love your unboxings, just pure raw energy.
Thank you! I use the shorts as an opportunity to highlight the more chaotic aspect of my overall personality since my main videos have me more calm and reserved.
From one fixer/refurbisher to another, very well done!
Thank you! Decided to check out your Core Playlist, and you got some serious talent in composition. Keep it up!
@@fenriswolfretro6729 Hey thanks! Means a lot to me :) Same to you good sir.
La's totally awesome is my favorite brand its really good, strong and great bang for the buck!
Do you like the chipquik 191 flux? I've bought some but can't stand the smell. I switched to Stirri V3
I find it works best for me. I am open to trying new fluxes, but Chipquik has always been reliable for me. I did use MG Chemicals paste flux in the past, but I found that it crystallizes often. Resulting in the needle jamming up and an annoying discharge when you apply a little more pressure to loosen it.
@fenriswolfretro6729 Agreed on the mg chemicals. I have that problem myself, a full tube pretty much unusable. Terrible quality. idk if it was just a bad batch, but I heard of many people complaining about the same issue. I've currently been trying the chipquik fluxes, and to my findings, they perform alright, meaning the activation doesn't last long. I would always have to add more in order to re touch up. So since then, I gave stirri a try, and boy was I amazed it works fantastic. Plus, it smells actually quite nice. lol not that we're supposed to be smelling it, but it's always nice when it doesn't reek like candle wax.
23:50 Does it matter what type of eraser you use? And for the board, you're spritzing with 91% isopropyl? Thanks for the great video.
I use a dual-ended pencil and ink eraser. The pencil side is for light surface corrosion, and the ink side is for heavier surface corrosion. As for isopropyl, anything above 90% will do.
Great video Fenris! Thanks for sharing!
I prefer chemical cleaning, it usually get rid of the ink dissolving it.
Regular toothpaste will get rid of permanent marker, especially easy when working on a hard plastic surface like those cartridge shells you have there.
I would imagine the cleanup afterward isn't as fun, but it doesn't hurt to try!
@@fenriswolfretro6729 just a tiny dab of toothpaste applied to kitchen paper, then rubbed gently on to the inked surface will remove the permanent marker in a few seconds, the minty smell will be the longest element that remains, which will go after a day or so, the ink literally absorbs into the paper so no messy residue, doesn't work on printed paper, or porous surfaces, yes it still lifts/ removes marker, but it will lift any printed ink with it, too.
Suddenly, the 8-bit version of Get Lucky you used as background music all makes sense now.
😛
Wow, both those games look brand new! 🤡
Hahaha. Sell that back to the game store!! I’m okay with some etching, it’s history. What I hate is sticky carts and pin corrosion. Excellent work Fenris! I learned a lot!
I have a question, would you agree to do the same job on my super famicon as I do with that video console, I hope you can answer my question.
Nice, i have one unit of this. 10 years ago, i did the same thing you were doing here.
"Watch has man makes love to an abused SNES for 47 mins."
Thanks for all the info. At 29:16 would've loved to see some of the multimeter work as you test the traces.
Will definitely keep that in mind, should I ever encounter another system with damaged looking traces!
Exactly. You spent time talking about how you believed so many could possibly be damaged then had a cut and said that they were all actually fine. Thanks again for the content
@@hinataoccu I do agree. While the core focus was on the cleaning aspect, while editing, I did wish that I at least showed me going through every suspect trace with a multimeter.
I'm so sorry you had to experience this LOL. You are doing the gaming god's work of keeping these alive.
Do mine next please!
For retrobright, I’ve moved into the submersible method with the clear peroxide. A high powered UV lamp and a bit of heat and it works a lot better than the cream method.
My UV Box can do liquid as well, I just haven't found a consistent 12% Peroxide/Distilled Water ratio. Everyone who uses that method reports different ratio amounts, and I would rather not have to experiment so much to find a ratio that I am good with. Especially when these peroxide bottles ain't cheap.
Use a smaller box that only fits one shell very tightly in it, put just enough water in to submerge, then dump the entire bottle of peroxide in. You can reuse the liquid multiple times to do the entire console.
@Replicant813 but when exposed to UV, Hydrogen Peroxide decomposes, hence why even 3% HP is stored in brown bottles. Wouldn't that just be a waste of a $25 Gallon of 12% HP, if only used once?
nice work! what value cap did you use on the VCC rail fix? 470uf / 6.3v?
For the big boy cap on the voltage regulator, I use the included 470uf capacitor that comes with the Console5 capkit. For the 6 capacitors that stack on the DC coupling caps for the core chipset, I use 100uf 16v electrolytic capacitors.
thanks dude!@@fenriswolfretro6729
Usually you save the jump scare to end! Yikes! Are those bits of skull?
No idea, but this was gnarly.
The wolf returns!
Thanks for something nice to watch while i eat dinner! Thanks for the tips on what games to use for further testing!
hey dude!
Happy New Year
Long time no upload!! WB
Thank you! Life's been rather busy, but I am planning on coming back with more videos this year! I have a bigger video ready as we speak, i'm just waiting on a final piece.
Cool video. Did you find out what was going on with that Spelunker cart? Is there maybe a different game on those EPROMs? That's very strange indeed given that the pinouts are different I think. The board is a close match to the imaged ones on the net (which have mask roms), but with some subtle differences.
Sorry for your loss

beautiful tribute. never had the pleasure of meeting postman but he seemed like a genuine person who had a deep passion like the rest of us! I wish i would have at least reached out and said hello. Being a hobbyist its easy to feel intimidated in the retro modding scene because a lot of people think you want to be the next big thing. But from now on ill take the time to reach out and at least say "thank you" to the some of the people who inspired me! Thanks for this Video Fenris. Hope you are happy, safe, and well fed!
Love these shells from blueshell3D. Great looking build and rip to Postman. We lost a good one. Thanks for sharing this great video.
Wow, this is the kind of content i love! Please don't stop making these! Amazing work!!!
I don't plan on stopping anytime soon! It's just these larger videos take more time for me to film and edit, and the shorts I produce are just filler content in-between bigger uploads.
