With pretty low temps since the beginning of October the annual ice jams have begun to build. The ice at the lower end of the island, where the little cabin is located, gets 3’ to 5’ thick before winter ends.

This little guy must have known of the coming nights big snow storm & subfreezing temperatures. We watched him stuff himself for quite some time.

The Filipendula & Delphiniums are now at their peak of glory. The tall pink are Filipendula rubra, sometimes called Queen-of-the-Prairie. The tall white ones are Filipendula ulmaria Queen-of-the-Meadow. They are 6' to 7' tall. Taller blue ones are Delphiniums. They go 7’ to 10’ of more some years.

A path goes through the middle of the main Perennial Garden area. This is a 360 degree view of what you'll see during mid July through & August. Almost all of the perennials are 5' to 7' tall in this area.

Belva is standing on 4 feet deep of snow that already slid off the past 2 months. Feb 26, 2019. From ground level to the top of the brown siding is 4 ft. Ground to peak of greenhouse arch is 16 ft. We had about 6 ft of snow since Jan. 1st. We had to keep shoveling snow away from the bottom of the wall so more snow could slide off.
