This is my new abstract dark ambient track. It conveys some anxiety, perhaps unconscious, or anxiety caused by the possibility of understanding these causes.

Hunter walked along the shore, his boots crunching into the coarse, damp sand with each slow, deliberate step. It was late at night, but the sky hung above him, washed in a strange, muted gray that didn’t belong at that hour. The waves rolled in quietly, as if they, too, felt the heavy stillness in the air. The cold crept in, cutting through his jacket, sharp as glass. He didn’t know what he’d come here looking for. Maybe just a place to forget himself for a little while, to dissolve into the vast, indifferent stretch of water. But as he moved forward, he felt something watching him. There was no wind, no sound but the low murmur of the waves, and yet, that feeling, that prickling at the back of his neck, told him he wasn’t alone. And that’s when he saw her. She stood a little way down the shore, almost hidden in the mist that clung to the beach. Her bright, red hair fell around her shoulders, tangled by the salt air, and her gaze, fixed on the horizon, seemed distant, as though she were waiting for something long gone. Hunter felt his chest tighten, and he couldn’t shake the pull she seemed to have on him. Without thinking, he walked toward her. As he got closer, he noticed the strange way she was dressed-a thin, old-fashioned gown, the kind he’d only seen in pictures from another time. It clung to her as if it had been soaked by the sea. “You shouldn’t be out here,” she said, her voice low, almost swallowed by the silence. She didn’t turn to look at him, her eyes still set somewhere far out in the darkness. “Neither should you,” he replied, unsure why he felt the need to answer her at all. She tilted her head slightly, a faint, cryptic smile playing on her lips. “Maybe not. But I have nowhere else to be.” There was something unsettling in her words, something that clawed at his mind, dragging up feelings he’d buried deep. “Who are you?” he asked, his voice rougher than he intended. Finally, she looked at him, her eyes meeting his. They were dark, bottomless, like the sea itself, and for a moment, he thought he could see storms there-something raw and ancient, something that had waited far too long. “They call me Tory,” she whispered, and there was a strange sadness in her voice, something that made him feel colder than he already was. He opened his mouth to say something, anything, but the words didn’t come. Instead, she turned away again, her gaze drifting back out toward the ocean. She looked like she belonged here, part of the mist and the cold and the endless water. And when he took a step closer, she didn’t move. “Are you… waiting for someone?” he managed to ask, though he couldn’t quite keep the tremor out of his voice. She nodded, a slow, almost imperceptible motion. “Someone who promised he’d come back.” Hunter felt a strange pang in his chest, a hollow ache he couldn’t explain. The way she said it, the way she stood there, it was as if time had stopped around her, trapping her in that single, endless moment. “I don’t think… he’s coming,” he said, the words slipping out before he could stop them. Her gaze flickered, just barely, and for the first time, she looked a little less sure, a little more fragile. But then her expression hardened again, that distant, haunting smile returning. “Maybe not. But I’ll be here. Just in case.” With that, she turned and began walking away, her form slowly fading into the mist until all that was left was the faint outline of her figure against the gray, endless sky. Hunter stood there, alone once more, the cold biting deeper now. The waves whispered at his feet, and he felt the weight of her presence lingering, pressing down on him, as if a part of her still lingered, waiting, just out of reach. As Hunter stood, staring into the mist where she’d disappeared, a chill ran down his spine, sharper than the ocean breeze. He took a step back, his eyes drawn down to where she’d been standing. In the sand, her footprints remained, half-faded and fragile, but they didn’t lead back to the water. They stretched out in a single line, further down the shore, then vanished completely, as if she’d never even existed. He felt something cold beneath his boot, and when he looked down, he saw a thin, rusted locket glinting in the sand, the chain broken. He picked it up, fingers trembling, and with a strange dread he couldn’t explain, he opened it. Inside was a photo-a face he recognized instantly, though it was a face he’d only ever seen in old family albums, half-hidden and worn. It was a photo of his mother, her name scrawled in faded ink beneath it. And in that breathless moment, the realization hit him like a wave, dragging him under. She hadn’t been waiting for just anyone. She’d been waiting for him... But then he remembered. His mother had died-Prion’s Disease, an agonizing descent that had taken her years ago, and there has never been a cure. He’d watched her fade, piece by piece, until she was just a shadow. A name floated to the surface of his mind, one he hadn’t spoken in years: Tory Elizabeth Garcia. He closed his eyes, gripping the locket tighter, trying to grasp some thread of reason, to pull himself back into something that made sense. But all that came was the lingering image of her figure in the mist, her words echoing through his mind. “I’ll be here. Just in case.” His chest felt hollow, as if everything he’d ever known had shifted, leaving him in a place he barely recognized. He looked down again at the locket, and for a moment, he wanted to drop it, to let it disappear back into the sand. But he couldn’t. It was his mother. And yet… it wasn’t. As he stood there, the silence around him deepened, pressing down like the weight of a hundred years. And suddenly, he realized he wasn’t sure if he’d come to this beach to remember… or if he’d been called there to forget. A cold breeze swept over him, lifting the mist and carrying it away. By the time he looked back down, her footprints had vanished.
