A walk in Glen Sligachan in the Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye.
The Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye, and a 22km walk in Glen Sligachan, on a day when the weather was not the best. There’s more to Skye than the Cuillins of course, as I’m sure the one million visitors to the island this year will attest. It’s getting increasing busy at the popular tourist sites, and while many of the roads are and have been greatly improved, the far north and west of the island is still mostly single track narrow and winding roads that are not suitable for mobile homes. Hill walkers and trekkers can fortunately still find solitude in the wild spaces where most tourists don’t venture.

The Burning of Auchindoun
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Auchindoun Castle in the north-east of Scotland was built five and a half centuries ago around 1470, and was occupied for 250 years before being abandoned in 1725. It had various owners and residents over time, but most notably it was Clan Gordon that would secure its place in history. The scale of political dealings and in-fighting, battles and murders, treachery and power struggles amongst th...

Late autumn visit to Ben Hope in the far north west of Scotland. It is a short walk on the ground of only 7km - 4.4miles, but a big ascent from sea level to 3041ft - 924m. It really is 'all up'. There is a clear route to follow but paths are rough and sometimes double-up as streams. When wet it can be a slippery descent.

As your camera slowly pans across the vast, rugged expanse of the Isle of Skye's mountainous terrain. Majestic peaks towering above, shrouded in mist, their silent grandeur dwarfing all in their presence. The scene exudes a profound sense of solitude, reminding us of our fleeting existence. Amidst this ancient landscape, human pursuits seem all so trivial...the protests on our streets, the greed, the endless chase for more, yet these mountains remain resolute and unyielding, have witnessed millennia and stand unchanged by the passage of time, their unspoken message is clear, in the grand scheme of nature, our struggles and desires are but whispers in the wind. Well done on yet another highly enlightening video

This just popped up on my home page and thought it looked interesting. It was!! The English (I'm English) invaded Scotland ... again. Yeah, we're good at that. But bloody hell, there was a great deal of in fighting. The Scottish clans were evil and brutal to each other, with no help from us. It is a testament to the structure of Achindoun that it still stands, though sadly diminished though war, fire and theft. One thing that struck me was the description of the castle's name, and I latched onto it. Is the word 'Doun' where we Brits get the word 'Downs', to describe a high point???? In Somerset there is Brean Downs which is definitely high up. I have to say also, that the drone work you did is spectacular, and the control of it as well as the optics are brilliant!!

Thanks for the great review! You are right that the scottish clans and nobles managed quite well on their own to be at constant war with each other. I could not cover the half of it in a several hour long video. Interesting idea that the word ‘Downs’ might have a common origin to doun. In most scots dialects, doun (or doon) does mean down. Thanks for your comment. Made my night.

The ridges to which you referred are what remains of the overburden, which was removed to facilitate the extraction of the pebbles thus creating the quarry opened and operated by an entrepreneur by the name of Geddes before WW2. In addition, a stone crusher was built just beyond the west end of the village which gave employment to a considerable number of locals from Kingston and Garmouth. The whole story also gave the name to our cottage….Pebble Cottage.

A really comprehensive guide to this hill, well done. I always find it a shame that so many folk just do an "out and back" to the top from the main car park and miss out on the amazing tors on this hill.

Yeah, I know what you mean, most people entirely miss the best parts. Thanks, I appreciate your comment.

It's says a walk in the southern cairngorms? Nope it's a walk in the eastern cairngorms, as coming from Aberdeen I've walked it many times in the past,

Hi, thanks for your input, but I have to disagree with you. The walk shown starts at Linn of Dee, which may be slightly east of due south of the entire range, but the whole walk is most definitely in the southern area. If you were to walk from the most easterly point of the Gorms, through Linn of Dee, to the most westerly point, you could still say the entire walk was in the southern Cairngorms.

An update on thoughts about the circular ground markings at the summit. Perhaps it was the original cairn before the Trig Point was built in the 1950s. I doubt that markings could survive for over 70 years, but maybe the old cairn was only completely moved much more recently.
