Thank you Stephen ❤
Thank you Stephen. "Lest we forget."
❤😢 Thanks Stephen.
Lovely images. Thank you for a great film.
Well done Steve
Charlotte Rebecca moss my great great grandmother lived on this street in those days my family all lived locally
My family were frisby/moss/jones and lived here in the 1800s
Great to see. Thanks for the sympathetic musical accompaniment, rather than anything modern. I'm surprised the steaming took place after the lettering. How much did it all cost, please ? Was much of the original stone replaced ? Thanks very much.
I used to take my dad around Rothwell and desborough in his weelchair he liked the town very much until he passed away ☹️☹️I miss him very much
I miss my home very much
I miss my home very much I’m stuck in New Zealand
Never thought I'd see someone from New Zealand pining for Desborough
Very nice to see my home town. Thank you.
I worked for a company called Tool Hire & Engineering Co Ltd of Birmingham in the early 1970s and we had dozens if not hundreds of these machines (mostly Oxfords) back in the day. My job was to maintain them, although to be honest apart from the very rare nut loosening, or a bit of oil topping up, they were pretty bullet proof. Then came MIG welders and these old oil colled welders seemed to vanish.
I worked for the Cytringan Welder company on leaving school in 1960, after I left to work in the shoe industry the company was sold to Oxford Products who were based in Rothwell, Northamptonshire.
It's a disgrace the way all those shops have gone the heart of the town has gone for ever,
How ABSOLUTELY fantastic!
It's not me Sean, it's Steve Purcell.
A story about a similar necklace brought me to the channel. I had to look at the other videos because of the comment below. Just looking at the videos listed made me homesick for a place I've never been. I hope that you are all well and thriving. It's been a terrible few years for the world but I send love from Georgia, USA.
Thank you for your kind comments.
I grew up nearby. The mentality of the people in towns of Northants back in the late 20th C were of an attitude of "couldn't give a shit mate" They destroyed a lot of Kettering too. I have no idea how Rothwell got away with it. Guess they couldn't be arsed to smash it up and replace with 1960s 70s shite.
Either Dunkirk Avenue or Station Road could be used. Perhaps Dunkirk Avenue was the better choice.
Dunkirk Avenue.
How Bath Road in particular has changed. I can recall 15 assorted shops in the 50's from Kipling Road (Fox owned it then) to the sweet shop at the Bath Lane corner. Scott Road was a continuation of a path to Stamford Road, and Weekley Glebe Road ended at the playing field.
I lived and grew up at 10 Scott Road and remember all the shops.
@@StephenRichards Were you around in the 50's? If so you would remember Timpson's factory hooter opposite the North Park. sounding of at 7.20 am and then a long blast at 7-25 am.
@@michaelyates5976 Yes and the sound of the presses on a hot summer day, the sound of bat on ball from the cricket in the North Park on a Sunday afternoon, such memories, pure nostalgia.
@@StephenRichards How nice to talk to someone who remembers all these things. North Park Stores and Allens near to Reg Tilley was my local sweets suppliers. When North Park Stores was closed for dinner or whatever, I would call in at Kipling Road Stores. The owner, Mrs. Fox was always frosty and aloof. I recall she had 2 sons, twins I think. They were odd too. It was later taken over by Libby and Alan, friends of mine back then.
@@michaelyates5976 Reg Tilley would accept any brand of empty bottles but would only give you half the money. We would spend all the summer holidays up the pits at the top of Scott Road and do you remember the Skid Kid track, I remember the Dagenham Girl Pipers coming down Scott Road for the opening.
Fascinating
Nice video, I've cycled that route myself a few times
My husband's granddad was a shunter at this station till he had a shunting accident and lost a leg ,
Went there on holiday in 1961.. Thanks mum and dad for working so hard for me❤️👍
I have been going there since I was a child in the 1950s, still love it as much as ever.
Stephen..this bought back a lot of memories. Loved the music as well.
Nice reflective film.
I lived here for 5 years...loved the Station House. Did quite a bit to it. It was a fun place to live.
Thanks Stephen.
Superb video Steve.
I loathe Tories
I think that view looking over Arthingworth from the first cattle grid takes a lot of beating!
The Ise Valley Sean, my favourite view is on the road from Stoke Albany to Ashley looking over the Welland Valley.
Love these, Stephen. exiled in America now so great memories...
Used to play in that pillbox up on the cliff...now buried in the sand.
My favourite part of the country, been going there since I was a boy.
I learnt to drive here and used my motorbike around this in 2007-8!
Nice film and very moving
Thank you Steve. Great to see. ❤️
Nice for you to capture these events for future viewing!
Lovely Steve. Great to see it so well attended and with so many laying tributes.
A fascinating flashback. Thank you.
Fantastic, thank you. Some film of family in this that I’ve not seen before.
Looks so peaceful
Hi folks, great video. I've always wanted to know more about these machines and their history. I have no less than ten of these welders that i have started to restore, most just cosmetically as they all still work ! Only one has CYTRINGAN livery. Most are OXFORD and PICKHILL. I'm assuming other firms purchased licenses to build them, and perhaps the war had something to do with it.. I'm just guessing here as I cannot find much information online. . I'd be greatful of any information and history on the machines along with the Cyringan and other generic makes. Kind regards, John Allen , Nottingham.
I worked for Cytringan Welders on leaving school in 1960, I will make Mavis, the daughter of the founder Cyril Dobson aware of your request for more information. She had a book published "Making The Best Of It" that chronicles the history of the company.
Interesting. Thanks for that. My g grandmother was born here and I mean to go and have a look round one day soon
Lucy’s tea room got burned down
I think I’m in this video on the trucks I recognise some of the Mums
I love this video which shows what a beautiful area this is, dare I say a lifeline to even more families during 20/21 but now the metal fences have gone up and the bulldozers have arrive, so sad
my last name is named after a town? thats actually pretty cool
What year was this?
Nice one Steve to see you in a few more there soon regards David H
