This video is my first attempt at uploading from my new 360 degree camera. It’s a short ride I regularly take to “Pine Ridge” a few miles out of Hardin. I’m sorry folks but I have much to learn about editing content and uploading to RUclips in general. I may try and upload this video later on when I have learned more about doing this stuff. Enjoy the ride along.😎

This beautiful car was gifted to me buy my loyal wife of over 50 years on our 50th anniversary. It was a complete surprise when my son drove it up to the place where we were celebrating…it was a truly touching moment. We’re all happy to see the car ready to be enjoyed.

How to start a cx500 ,gl500 cx650, gl650 with missing wiring. THANKS TO Brick House Builds👍. I picked up this 81 gl500 with a large portion of missing harness and needed help to start the engine. I must mention RUclipsr “BRICK HOUSE BUILDS” for the tips that got my engine running. This method only gets it running but without any charging circuit.

FINALLY ,The “1983 GL650 “parts bike” is roadworthy after sitting for over 20 years.

I acquired this gem about a year ago in non running condition with essential parts missing . Thanks to EBay and Amazon the essential parts were acquired and installed resulting in the beauty before you. The GL650 is one of the longest lived motorcycles ever made and loved everywhere along with all of its “Twisted Twin” sister Gl and CX 650 bikes.

….sorry about the horrible editing 😵💫
Very nice! Nothing quite like a true classic. 🙌
I had the touring version and I loved it. GL500 Silverwing interstate.
Glad it was helpful. I’m a real amateur at video editing. I just have one camera and no additional audio equipment. I just enjoy riding and sharing my rides. Maybe I’ll have the time and resources to learn some editing tricks and upgrade to some better equipment. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
That was ideal. i was just wondering about doing the route solo and the video helps immensely. Obviously, need a bit of work on the audio but video was great. Thanks for posting.
Greetings from England and thanks for your observations. I bought a really nice low mileage blue 1981 CX500 off eBay and rode it home 200 miles. Had some carb problems with sticking float needles and a broken tachometer cable but all fixed now. The forum is helpful and I've used it to document my fettling. I'm looking forward to many years of CX500 riding. Thanks again.
Glad you’re enjoying your new ride. I recommend you thoroughly check and clean all the electrical connections and grounds for corrosion. The stators can be a weak spot on these bikes so minimizing resistance in the whole electrical system can help prevent stator failure. Also be sure to use Honda coolant or at least a coolant with no silicates, silicates can wipe out the ceramic mechanical water pump seal. The mechanical seal is a great seal as long as the correct coolant is used. Also be sure to set the cam chain adjuster at the suggested intervals. If left without adjustment it will start so slap and wear prematurely. Just a few little maintenance tips to keep your ride trouble free … or at least to a minimum. Enjoy 👍
One more thing….check the plastic cooling fan hub for cracks , it can explode and wipe out the radiator. Be aware that new old stock fans can have fishers and even very noticeable cracks. ( I think a mentioned that in the video). I couldn’t find a good fan after mine exploded so I opted for an electric fan . I would have preferred the oem fan though. Maybe more plentiful in your area.
A guy locally on FB marketplace is selling a 1979 cx 500 for $1000. New battery, fresh oil change, carbs cleaned. He states that the speedometer isn't correct and has small oil and coolant leak, but nothing serious. 13,767 original miles. Should I buy it as my first bike?
It could need a new water pump seal. Not necessarily a deal breaker but it may be more than you want to bite off unless you’re willing to do that job. It’s a little intimidating but RUclips has some very good teachers. If you decide to go for it, it might be wise to do the complete “triple bypass” including a shifter seal and output shaft seal. Be sure to use oem output shaft seal, it has a lip on the outside that retains the drive shaft boot. Other things to watch for is loose)worn steering head bearings, fork seals etc. If you like working on old stuff it can be a welcome challenge but if you’d rather be riding than tinkering you may not want to get involved. But this is true with anything that’s old…. You either love the tinkering and have the time and the heart for it or you don’t.
@cobbleup thanks for the detailed reply. Unfortunately I'm not well versed in this type of tinkering, I may just look for a newer used bike at my local dealership, being new to motorcycles and not having any mechanical know how on them may put me behind the 8 ball and cost me more money in the long run
Yep, thumbs up from Germany, too. At 74 years old now, just had me one of those bikes which we used to make fun of in the earlier years. Nowadays, I don´t need bikes with 100 and excess horsepower any longer. Actually never did. Even more as they are restricting speeds here more and more. So thanks for some really worthy informations and points to know about the "mudpump" as it is nicknamed over here.
I’ve never heard the term “Mud Pump”. It’s amazing how someone will not like something about a bike and start using a derogatory “title” to describe it. This can cause the masses to pick up on the remark and continue its uncalled for journey through the unwitting crowd. For us it has turned out to be a good thing because many who couldn’t overlook the ignorance of those that follow the crowd have left us very good, easily restored specimens…that’s a good thing. 👍 BYW, I now also own one of the rarer gl650s . I love it for interstate rides calling for higher speeds…only because I enjoy the sound of the lower rpm’s. In mind it feels easier on the cam chain, although it’s probably not an issue , just something in the mind of an old guy who drives around in a 29 Model A 😂
@@cobbleup Good example how things can be interpreted wrongly. Fact is I love my cx as well as most of their owners here, and the term mud-pump is understood as a nickname by at least 90 % of all !! bike-owners over here without any negative interpretation whatsoever. Just the opposite !The term was taken from a quite successful comic-movie (they actually made 4 of them ) about the adventures of a young character called "Werner". The story is that he cut the downpipes of a cx, added hoses to both and by starting the engine pumped mud. Physically seen rubbish but as a joke it "did it" ! Eversince the CXs had their nickname and is easily identified where it came from. So, Sir, a little less serious and perhaps just a little more sense of humor (will make the day wherever you live). Regards
I see the humor now that I have the information. Yes it’s easy to come to the wrong conclusion when you’re on the other side of the globe and have no knowledge of what’s been going on over there . 😂
@@cobbleup yes, you are absolutely right. Kind regards from "over the pond" combined with best wishes for some troublefree tours through your "wide country". Was happy enough to visit SD/WY/NE/IO/KY coupla times !
Cool bikes. My dad recently picked up a cx 650 Eurosport and a parts bike as well. Having fun learning bout them
I have a 1978 cx500 here in Western Australia and I love it. It’s smooth and quiet and perfect for enjoying the countryside on
Where do you get your parts from? I just acquired one of these and will need to fix a few quirks. Thanks in advance!
You can usually get what you need from EBay and Amazon. There’s a company called “David Silver Spares” that carries many of the necessary items.
I had one of these a long time. I wish i would've have gave it away.
I had a 70s model about 20 years ago…should’ve never sold it.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
So happy to see the sun shining brightly. Love riding the local backroads. 🤠👍
Glad to be of help. I love the simplicity of the cx500. Also lots of forum support.
Giving you some love all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦!! Looking for a reliable second hand bike and your video is really helpful.

That’s a nice ride. I remember doing that ride last year.
Glad you enjoyed the ride and the video. I usually stop at some of the key points to take in the majestic views of the area. Breathtaking.
Sounds like the idle jets are clogged up ;). Thats why its running over 2000 rpm but dying below. Did you get her up and running?
Oh yes. She runs like a champ. Idles right down.
❤wonderful effort
The side covers end result was very acceptable. Thanks.

Amazing... Well done! Praise Jehovah Greetings to all Fr: New Mexico
Wow do lovely I'm filled with gratitude.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed
Love 💗 those winding backroads!!!
How fast would you say you were going
This is awesome. Thanks
Another ride!!! That was so much fun riding upside-down. A little tough on my helmet tho 😊 If my mom was alive, she'd say "What Jehovah hath wrought!!!" and she'd be absolutely right 💙 Amazing!!!
This is incredibly beautiful. I lived in Langley for a year but never had this experience. It reminds me so much of going for family drives in northern Ontario when I was a little girl, hoping we would get lost. So exciting to me lol WoW!!! Thank you for the exciting ride 😊
Excelente vídeo irmao muito obrigado
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed.😎
Gotta love Beautiful British Columbia.
Yes I’m totally fine😎. I decided to post this mishap to show that riding isn’t always perfect sunny days where everything goes perfectly. Accidents can happen. I post my rides for memories for me to watch later on in life. They aren’t posted to brag, draw attention to myself or to incite jealousy on the part of those who can’t get out there. I love the outdoors and riding the trails and backroads and of course stopping to admire creation along the way brings me closer to my creator and reinforces my longing for future life in God’s New World free from the anxieties of this crazy world.
This is a wonderful comment to express and very encouraging. I'm so happy that all is well with you after your mishap. I could feel your pain, brother!!! Thank you for sharing the beauty of B.C. 💌
@@MorningDove Your comment was equally encouraging. I’ll be in BC for a few more days and will be posting a ride through the beautiful country between Christina Lake and Rossland BC traveling over the old original gravel highway. It’s a long ride so it’ll be in several parts. I hope you and your friends will “ride” along.😎
Actually it was Jewel Lake. A beautiful day on the back roads.
Looking good!
Thanks. Not perfect but plenty good for this project. 😎
Great idea. Laying a towel on the floor would protect the surface of your tank should on of those bungees break. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing.
Yes that’s a very good suggestion. I’ll be posting a short video today of wet sanding the the first coat and then another of what will hopefully be the finished coat. 😎 After some research I may sand one more time and shoot some hardened clear if it’s compatible
I may have missed it if you said already, but I'm curious to what you're going to use to prevent it from RE rusting I'm having this issue on a 93 HD FXR
I’ll just keep it full of gas. Fill to the top after each ride. Thanks for watching.
You could add a dimmer switch to control the speed
Great idea Del
Thanks. It works great and is inexpensive. In the past I’ve jacked up and strapped the tank to my garden tractor tire and let it run slowly for as long as it takes. It helps to rotate the tank to several different positions to get the screws into all areas of the tank.
Looking good Del😊
Mixing very small batches of body filler it’s easy to add too much hardener. Lesson: with small batches, less hardener is better than more. Next video we’ll fix it.
It was actually the 4th. The bank’s display was a day behind and I didn’t catch it .🤪
Are you going to show what kind of job those screws do to clean the tank? I’d be very interested to find out. Thanks
Yes , I’ll post a short video of the inside of the tank in a day or so.😎
I really like those bikes. High miler, dependable bike😎👍
Agreed!
Those are really good bikes. They’ve proved themselves as a high mileage dependable bike. It’s a keeper👍😎
I loosened the drive belt a bunch afterwards to slow it down. I’ll flip the tank so the bottom is facing the machine to get abrasives cleaning the other side… Watch next video
The motor would likely run hot. I finally loosend the belt so it would slip. Worked great after that. Thanks for watching.
Good idea for video
Great informative video Del !
Thanks. Hopefully it’s helpful to someone. 😎
