Lovely little coves. Enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was lovely having them all to ourselves.
England Calling Only a suggestion, but considering you planned voyage, possibly you may want to consider the following. It's a product I've been using for years in all our vehicles, in our fleet we have 2 Range Rover's onw a 2002 TD6 (BMW 3ltr, 220,000 miles) we've owned for over 10yrs and a 2008 TDV8 3.6 (ford Diesel Engine with 167,000 miles) plus an American Motorhome with a Cummins 6BT 5.9. I don't want to mention the product name because I'm not here to promote a particular product but if your Wife wishes to send me one of your lovely emails I'll provide you the details. Br Peter
Hey Peter, that sounds interesting. Janis here. You can send us an email at crew@onboardtangaroa.com.

On reflection what’s your feed back n the way ecu.s as an option for engine swaps
Short of the initial issues they have been great. I have them dialed in pretty well now so the engines are running great. If I had to do it over I definitely would have had in depth discussion with the designer to ensure specs were feasible for the usage. The Cummins injectors are pretty demanding for power and ultimately that was the only big issue we had with the ecu's and that could have been avoided with more planning and design.
Fantastic video
Thank you so much Nigel. We are working on our storytelling.
thanks for the video, that's an area I've always wanted to see.
I hope you subscribed because we explored this area and the Broken Group for two weeks. Even did some offshore fishing with Tangaroa which was a bit hairy. Next week's video is Tofino Hot Springs which was one of our fave places as well as Lucky Creek Falls in Barkley Sound.
I don’t know about the falls being a challenge, but if you need a challenge try fixing roof over your head
Unfortunately there are too many wires that still need to pass through that area before it gets organized and closed up plus there is still a small persistent leak coming from there that we can't quite manage to stop even after a couple of attempts. Thanks for watching!
What glorious scenery, definitely a good feel alive moments. There is a UK diesel engineering company that is able to run ECU programmed engines to run without its programing, at full throttle its smokey, but I was thinking might be a good back up, get you home thing, just a thought. if for some reason your ECUs ECMs had water damage etc.
It was one of my favorite areas up there for sure! I will have to look into that company. Not sure how they would do that but it sounds intriguing.
@@OnboardTangaroa Hi, they also have a youtube channel, DieselPumpUK, it might be worth a look.
@@OnboardTangaroa other youtube site is BENZ INJECTION the vid is called run a om606 with EDC pump without controller.
I had a look but I think that is for the electronically controlled mechanical pumped engines. Ours are purely electronic. Not sure how they would pull that off.
@@OnboardTangaroa I had another look but in a survival situation it would be to stressful even if it could be done, best left alone, lol
Have you seen the movie . . . Deliverance . . . 😄👍👋🇳🇿🍻
I have not actually ever seen it amazingly enough! One day maybe.
Wow stunning scenery . . Cool finding that waterfall . 👍👋NZ🇳🇿🍻twa
It was one of my favorite areas up there. The waterfall was nice because we were able to get the tender right into it.

Sorry you feel that way. We will be sad to see you go.
Iam out! Enjoy your demise!
Sorry to see you go.
Ivivaibe crab? You turned them loose! Really?
That's my fault. I wasn't actually sure those were the invasive green crab until I did some googling after and they were too small to keep. Next time - now that I'm sure that they are the invasive green crabs - I will do with them what the fisheries in the area we catch them recommends. Right now, the Canadian government does not recommend killing them, they want you to take a picture of them and report where you found them. One article says In Canada, "conservation groups trap crabs by the thousands and deep freeze them to kill them - but after that, they're sent to landfill or compost." And one article says, IF YOU CAN'T BEAT THEM - EAT THEM.
Enjoying you too! Thanks! Love those Cummins!
Glad you are enjoying the videos! We are loving the Cummins as well!.
Drive Her, aground! What a perfect location!
Absolutely stunning - I'm guessing you are talking about running the dinghy aground which we did twice in this video! I feel like we should get a jet drive dinghy then there would not be any issues with hitting propellers on the rocks.
Maybe someday learn how the paddles work for those dodgy shallow places. Lovely place you found! Wow!
Lol, you are right. We are just a bit lazy that way.🤣 Lots of amazing places up there.
Just a thought Blaine, your engines being newly built maybe cut open the oil filters and check for any glitter. Your doing great job guys!
Good idea on the filters. I used to have a filter cutting tool at the shop for the engine builds we did there but I don't think I have it anymore. Thanks for the kudos!
🙂
😍
Great blog as always. Hopefully there’s a blog breaking down boat performance with these new Cummins, fuel burn, cruising speed etc. seeing them hit hull speed at 60% throttle etc.I know wishful thinking
Thanks! I will see what I can do to make that breakdown happen. There are still a couple of things to button up but we should be close to that.
Lots of little places to explore on the West Coast. Glad to see Blaine using oil filters other than Wix, they used to be good not anymore, I've haven't had any issues with Baldwin filters.
I typically Try to use the Baldwin filters when I can get them. I know they are controversial but I run bypass filters as well. Not for extending oil change intervals but to keep the oil that much cleaner. I hate dealing with pitch black dirty diesel oil.
@@OnboardTangaroa Baldwin is pretty much all we can get around here. For Cummins I'd get a case or two of Fleetguard filters. Made by Cummins for their engines and other manufactures of course. The Rotella T5 might be a little better for the 6.7 being a synblend. Yeah oil changes in a boat are a pain. The old buzzin dozens that oil is black as black can be. You get on your hands you are wearing it for a day or two. Then trying to find straight grade 40 isn't easy.
The Fleetguard filters are a bit tougher to find around here although they have some very appealing filter options that I would like to try for both fuel and oil. Once I have some break in done I will likely shift to the T5 or even possibly the T6 oil although many who specialize in the Cummins engines say its unnecessary. The way I look at it is that you can never have too good or too clean of oil. I have been disassembling the old Detroits over the last few weeks and it has been a dirty job for sure.
@@OnboardTangaroa You could go with T6 it would be a few more dollars. I liked the T6 in my 6.0 power stroke I had the heui injectors worked the best on it. Oil changes it what counts. At least you have an engine room you can walk around in.
The walk around engine room was a must. I spent too many years crawling around in bilges working on stuff. My body doesn't like to bend that way anymore.
Are you sure it wasn't a red tide going on there? I would be very wary of algae blooms especially with shell fish like crabs or clams oysters. Great little hideaways, I always enjoyed the west coast of Vancouver island.😊 I mean I grew up there. Part of my life and still love it.😊
I am not sure what it was. It could have been red tide. It was like a layer of red silt. You could see the top of it about 3 inches below the surface. Clayoquot sound was pretty amazing. If we were staying here I would definitely go back again. You were blessed to grow up on the west coast of VI. Its amazing.
The rust color is from the iron in the rocks.
I had read that somewhere. It was super odd though. It was like a heavy silt that started about 3" below the surface. When you moved a paddle through it you could see it swirl around.
How have the new engine been going Blane.
So far they have been amazing! Quiet, efficient, and smooth. Couldn't ask for more.
I like how Janis told us what that green crab was because I was seconds away from googling it haha. Blaine try this new invention call a funnel when filling oil 😋
We didn't know at the time but I guess they want you to kill the green crabs when you catch them. Next time I guess. That whole "funnel" thing sounds pretty technical 😂.
That was like a scene from Indiana Jones going to that waterfall. Super cool. Work hard play hard. You worked all summer now time to play.
We definitely had a great time on that trip. Getting all buckled down for the winter now.
Thanks for the video guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You guys could do with one of those moulded polypropylene dory dingys ... That you dont have to worry about ripping, holing or dragging over rocks. They even do ones with a drop down bow door for divers to clamber in and out of. Because they are moulded they are virtually indestructable. Perfect for gunk holing and pushing into shallows .. dory cathedral hull and squared bow means they are hard to tip and unsinkable. Find one second hand.. they wont damage your Tangaroa either.
Whaly boat, Doug Jackson from SV Seeker has one he seems to like it does what he wants to do with it. Not sure how expensive they are here in Canada.
We have been discussing tender options for a while now. We are mostly leaning toward an aluminum tender currently just to keep the all aluminum theme going 😁. It will probably be something custom that we can load a dual sport motorcycle into.
@@OnboardTangaroa I'd go with a Lifetimer or Silver streak two good boat manufacturers on the island. Tough as nails you'll never have to worry about it falling apart. If you guys are going far overseas you need a tough little tender you never know you might have to tow Tangaroa. Expensive yes but its buy once cry once.
Don't mind putting money into something that lasts!
@@OnboardTangaroa With you guys planning a trip away from home for months to a year having something that’s repairable anywhere in the world is a bonus. The cheap riveted boats they fail, made from light gauge aluminum.
I really enjoyed this.
Glad you liked it Bruce!

Wow! Crazy
It was preeeetty chilly that year and the next year was even worse!
People such as myself would give their right testy to visit these places and you’re so lucky that they are on your doorstep 😀 do you plan to insulate the engine room to cut down the noise?
It was a beautiful little spot Joe. We were very lucky to have had the chance to visit. I will eventually do some more insulating. Once I convert the steering to Hydraulic that will help a lot as there are fairly large openings where the chain and shaft go through.
