So cool ! In my dreams I wish I go back in time.

What an amazing documentary ! I was lucky enough to live in Dana Point since the late 70’s right next to Dana Hills. I think we paid $125k for the house with a pool off of Stonehill. We raced Hobie Cats, rode Jet Ski’s and WALKED up and down the stairs to a virtually houseless Strands beach. Flew r/c gliders, also made by Hobie, on the cliffs above Salt Creek before they built the Ritz. Got many of my first jobs in that harbor…..The boat launch ramp was always bustling with activity and full of active boaters, when I go there now, it’s empty and they are using it as a parking lot for the shops. They were great times. Dana Point has changed. Priced out of Paradise. Bummer……DHHS Class of 87

I started surfing at 10 years old in 1962 at Hermosa Beach. Then I had to move inland to San Bernardino. In 1964 we found out we could get on Camp Pendleton with our Norton AFB sticker on our car and surf the relatively uncrowded San Onofre. Even was invited over a few times to the huts where the San Onofre Surf Club hung out. One of the surfers consistently surfing here was Joyce Hoffman. Paddling back out she would just leave me in the dust. I learned late one, two, and even no paddle takeoffs from watching her. There were no other guys out there that could out paddle or out surf her except one, Phil Edwards when he would show up and bless the spot. My mom who drove us the 1 1/2 hours there just loved watching her surf. I think Joyce was an inspiration to my mom who was in her 40s. They always talk about inspiring young girls but it went the other way too. My mom reentered the workforce in her late 40s and retired at 62. She got her AA Degree in her 50s and worked at the Copyright Office in DC. I believe she got that determination from watching Joyce out surf they guys. "She just paddles out and catches a wave and does it all over and over again without stopping until she comes in." She'd marvel.
