Shufflin An Sufferin
Добавлен 2 апр 2022
Day 10-12 | Fingers Crossed | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike
October 28-30. Yet another beautiful sunrise and more hard packed trail underfoot. The wind picked up as forecasted, but so did a nagging pain in Shufflin’s ankle. He’d had this problem once before and knew that if it got worse, it would mean the end of his hike. As the day progressed it became impossible to ignore and instead of planning how we’d do big miles to try and beat the impending cold snap, we were instead trying to figure out how quickly we could get off trail and into Flagstaff for some rest and hopefully rehab.

Day 9 | Spidey Sense | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike
Просмотров 1934 часа назад
October 27. We started the day with a beautiful sunrise and the trail remained easy underfoot as we passed through areas of prescribed burns and dried mud. We had lunch at Russell TH and Shufflin got creative gathering the clearest water from Russell Tank. Tarantulas were also out hiking in the afternoon. We started thinking about our approach to Flagstaff since the forecast is calling for anot...
Day 8 | Easy Miles | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 26. We grabbed the remaining resupply items from the grocery store, enjoyed first and second breakfasts, and hit the road mid-morning. The trail was easy underfoot, we enjoyed sunset views from the Grandview Lookout tower, and hiked into dark to find a good tent site.
Day 7 | South Kaibab | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 25. We planned another early start and hit the trail under fading stars with just enough light to appreciate the Colorado River flowing under our feet as we crossed the bridge to begin the climb out of the canyon. We passed many groups of trail runners, 2 teams of mules, and dozens of day hikers who seemed to multiply nearer the top. Way ahead of expectations, we reached the South Rim a...
Day 6 | Grand Canyon | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 24. We set the alarm for 4am hoping to get a head start on the sun, not knowing how long it would take us to hike down into the canyon. We had specifically avoided doing much research about this part of the trail and it far exceeded our expectations, especially the part where we arrived at Phantom Ranch in time to sit in the shade and enjoy iced coffee, cold apples, and lemonade before ...
Day 5 | North Rim | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 23. With the snow mostly behind us (for now), it was a lovely walk to the North Rim where we arrived with dry feet in plenty of time to get our permit for Bright Angel campground the next night. We set up our tent and had a few hours to relax, catch up with fellow AZT hikers, and enjoy an incredible sunset over the canyon which faded to reveal an absolutely spectacular starry night sky!
Day 4 | High Point | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 22. It was a long cold night and morning as we waited for the first rays of sun to reach the tent so we could thaw our frozen shoes. One of us was very glad to have tucked her wet socks in a double ziplock inside her sleeping bag and put her insoles inside her jacket while packing up. Once underway, the Arizona sun warmed us up quickly as we headed toward the Grand Canyon Park boundary ...
Day 3 | Deep Freeze | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 21. We start out warm and dry but it doesn’t last long as we spend a second day slogging through wet snow. The terrain forced us to camp in a low-lying valley making the overnight low drop far below what was forecasted for the elevation. We are glad to have winter camping skills but hadn’t anticipated needing them this night.
Day 2 | Snow Slog | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 20. We find the snow early today and once the sun came out the trail became a slushy sloppy mess which made for soaking feet and hard hiking. We decide to give ourselves a break before the push to the Grand Canyon.
Day 1 | Tough Decisions | Arizona Trail 2024 SOBO Thru Hike

October 19. Getting to Utah was easy… getting on trail, not so much. Last week’s heat wave turned into this week’s winter storm, and with a forecasted potential 12-16” of snow we decided to delay our start. Seemed like a very smart decision at the time.

lighterpack.com/r/8xv33s Gear list for 10-day TRT thru-hike June 27-July 6, 2024. This was a 2-person trip and my partner carried the tent, stakes, and InReach Mini2. I’ve hiked with most of this gear for years, but there were a few changes this time including Bearikade Weekender, Durston Kakwa 40, a new “blanket”, and an ever-growing pile of electronics and camera gear.

Arizona Trail 2024 Day 10 Section Hike from Mexico to Roosevelt Lake
I was biking the trail but turned back by snow north of Flagstaff. Can you give a ‘date’ on your hike. I may run into you while I ride!
The stick in the guzzler is so critters can crawl out if they fall in.🐿
Lovely episode man, relaxing and atmospheric! Shots are so diverse
I love your videos so much because of your authenticity!
You guys have guts😳 I got 3/4 of the way up the tower but stopped there cuz had a feeling it was going to topple over😂 The Canyon tomorrow…..wooo hooo! Have fun😀
I did give second thought to the “maximum 2 people” sign on that tower, but couldn’t resist the view! We did the canyon on Days 6 and 7. It was incredible!!
@ Yes, the canyon is incredible. We were just 8-10 days ahead of you. We were in 90 degree temps😳 We did not have snow when you had snow. We were in Pine and got poured on!!!!!! Keep having fun😀
Absolutely gorgeous work man, place looks amazing! 🏔️🔥
@@ervinslens Thanks. Pretty easy to make this place look amazing.
Cold!!
Super nice
What a cool series! I know it was so enjoyable
@@allkindsofoutdooractivities Awesome, thanks for watching!
@ You are so welcome!
I did Rim to Rim SOBO with my wife in May of this year. I was absolutely blown away by the beauty and majesty of the Grand Canyon. It was stunning. I’ve enjoyed your TRT series and this AZT one too. Thanks for uploading! You both may have convinced my wife to join me on the Uinta Highline trail next year! Hopefully we can convert her into a thru hiker.
@@colbypark1311 Glad you’re enjoying these. Keep watching, though you might not want to share the rest of this series with your wife until after your hike. ;-) This trail’s been throwing everything at us!
Thanks for sharing your gear list 🤩
@@TopazFarmerTravels You’re welcome. Happy hiking!
Wow, scenes are absolutely amazing guys! Brilliant episode 🥾🥾
@@ervinslens High praise! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for posting this I’m really enjoying it. I’ll be fine along your journey. Is there anyway you can verbally or put in text with the date is so I know what time of year you are hiking the trail? Really helps the viewers thanks
Glad you’re enjoying the videos. Can’t believe we missed the date! We always want to know that too. It’s our first time uploading from the trail and from the phone and we just missed it. Fixed in the descriptions now. We started October 19, 2024.
@@shufflinansufferin ok thanks for that and no worries. I’ve completed the PCT but would really like to do the AZT so watching partially for research but because I like watching well done trail videos. I created an individual video for every single day on the PCT for my channel so I appreciate the work that you’ve put in to get daily videos out especially from the trail. It’s very time consuming but worth it. I live in San Diego so am on the desert portion of the PCT all the time so I think I would really enjoy the AZT especially not being so long compared to the PCT. Hike on and thanks! Marmalade
@ You gotta hike the AZT! The terrain is challenging (in my opinion) and beautiful. The shorter distance makes it a little easier to cram into regular life.
No way! It was 29 or less this morning here in northern AZ
@@rya7642 This was Oct. 20. We’ve had some real temperature ups and downs - though it seems more downs than ups so far!
This was great! Living in Reno, I've hiked most of the TRT, but never thru hiked it. How did you like the Durston Kakwa? I have been debating getting for a while.
@@AldenWeebsta Thanks! I really like the pack. It’s still comfortable with long heavy food and water carries. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the mesh pocket… it’s a little on the small side. The 55L has already had that pocket size increased. Maybe the 40L will be next.
Another great video, I ended up binging all of the TRT videos !
@@arkansasalex7288 Thanks for the comment. AZT SOBO coming soon!
@@shufflinansufferin wow, I just typed this long, super thought out message.. and an error occurred when I hit send..
@@shufflinansufferinjust wanted to say that the photography and cinematography in your videos (that I've seen so far) has been top notch, and it seems like you put a lot of effort into it. It is also very fun watching you and your partner in crime! It looks like you two are really on the same page and enjoy being outdoors together (or are really good at faking it lol) and just living yalls best life out on the trail.
(Broke these messages up into smaller ones in case that was why an error occurred the first time) And I look forward to watching your journeys, and somewhat living vicariously through your videos lol. I work a 9-5ish type job. So it is difficult to get out for more than an overnight hike/camp (which I do enjoy, and do regularly.. ) since I only get 2 weeks vacation per year.. Keep doing what yall are doing, I think once the algorithm gets your videos/channel in front of more people.. they will notice the quality like I did!
Just came across your channel and videos! Amazing job with them!
@@arkansasalex7288 Glad you found them. We had a blast!
Nice gear list. Two light quilts/blankets is clever for getting flexibility.
@@architennis Thanks, it’s not a super flashy ultralight kit but it’s comfortable and works great for me. I’ve used two summer quilts for a while now but the quilt and blanket combo is light and gave me the ultimate flexibility.
Your videos are so good and you capture the beautiful places of the world in front of everyone, it's amazing. But your RUclips videos have no SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Title, Description, Targeted Keywords are missing. Due to which the videos are getting fewer views. Solving the problems will increase the views of your video organically.
Love the username. Nice hiking pal
Thanks… It can’t be all sunshine and lollipops.
See you in the Fall🤝🏻
When are you heading out?
Heading back here in 2 weeks. Hiked it in 2017. Looking forward to returning. Thanks for the video!
Had a blast making it. Hope you have a fantastic trip, Chignecto’s the best!
Love the AZT, great videos, good to see you guys on trail!!
Thanks, we’re loving the AZT so much we’ll be back in October (after a shakedown on the TRT). Enjoyed your cameos in @jonallenoutside
