Takumi Woodwork
Япония
Добавлен 23 дек 2016
The OFFICIAL channel for Takumi Woodwork. Takumi woodwork is made up of just me for now, Louis. I'm also in the middle of moving from the U.K. to Japan (again). I hope to make lots more videos in the future of furniture and house construction. I'll have lots of time to do this in future as a rugby injury to my shoulder in my youth has put the kibosh on my manual labour work.
The move is currently on hold due to Covid-19. Stay safe everyone, and feel free to email me if theres a particular thing you'd like to see more of on this channel going forward.

Making Stairs on site

Using 36mm glu-lam oak and ply risers. It's incredibly steep and I know it wouldn't pass "code" in America but this is Japan so please don't worry about it.

Remove old kitchen, remove pantry. We made the cabinets from polylumber core, local birch ply for the end panels and fronts. Sorry for silliness
Update On the House Renovation In Niseko, Japan.

A SLIGHT gap between videos. Sorry about that, I was kind of in a hurry to get this place done before all the snow arrived. As you can see, the outside is done now. We're trying to resist the temptation to shred the pow and finish the inside of the house. I have my apprentice filming and editing videos weekly now, so stay tuned for more sensational content.
A day trip To Suzuki Mokuzai

This is my favourite place to get timber in Hokkaido. It's a family run business. They have helped me so much over the years, and again today they gave me this old combination machine to help me get started here. House Renovation in Japan Day 1
Просмотров 2814 года назад
This is day 1 of house renovations. I have to admit I've already skipped a fair few weeks without filming, as I'm battling time to get this all done before snow comes. I'm going to try to film as much as possible though. For now this is a little taster
Making a Teak Bath Caddy

The making of a teak bath caddy. A bath Caddy is a tray to put things on while you relax in the bath, like a book or a gin and tonic. To purchase yours follow the link below. I missed a few vital steps in the filming process. Sometimes I get distracted by a phone call and then I forget to film stuff. Apologies about that. www.takumiwoodwork.co.uk/-misc/bath-caddy-1

Sliding dovetails in which legs are mortised and tenoned into. This is a little coffee table commission. The top is a single piece of oak split right down the middle or "pith". It's held together with bow tie splines in Wenge. Find more work at; www.takumiwoodwork.co.uk

Beautiful 👏👏👏👏👏 Just love Felder machines 🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ May I ask what is the HP of the motor ? Cheers and love from India ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Haven't seen those risers with mdf tops before, they're quite clever. Are they specific to Japan, or do they use them in Europe/US as well?
Great work, real craftsmanship. How long did it take you to finish these?
I love FELDER CF 741 SP
Love mine to I have had it for two years now
Hi Louis, hope you're doing fine. RUclips just suggested your channel to me, and I really enjoy your work, and it very exciting you're moving to Japan! I'm sure RUclips will keep suggesting your videos to new people, so just keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to follow your move and your channel in the years to come. All the best from Denmark.
Great update!
Really enjoyed the video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
What was the price for this? Felder make it super hard to find costs. Cheers
You have to go direct to Felder and get a personalised quote based on what spec you want. It's not cheap. £17K+

Fennah Woodworking Thank you very much that’s very kind! I’m itching to get working and I plan to do RUclips properly to give my body more of a rest in my old age 😇

Absolutely top class work and wood. Brilliant!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much!
MORE VIDEOS...PLEASE
Working on it! Thank you
Thanks, now I have a great video to show my students how NOT to use a planer! Why would you plane 4 inch wide timber over 12 inch wide exposed blades?
I was too excited about my new machine. I agree a beginner should most definitely use the guards. I admit my ignorance in sharing this on RUclips. Feel free to show them, and then please also show them my website if you don’t mind. Have a lovely day, Paul.
Awesome work. You mentioned on your Instagram story that you'd consider teaching Japanese woodworking techniques disrespectful. Why is that?
James H Thank you very much! Well I could write a lot here but, in short. I think I’d need to be fluent in Japanese and have spent my whole life learning to even consider teaching it. Even then, I would probably only be comfortable acting as a translator. There is so much more to it than I can even comprehend. It is not a subject to be taken lightly. I am a 30 year old from the Isle of Man, who did a carpentry and joinery apprenticeship. It’s an incredibly rich culture and I would never be able to do it justice.
@@takumiwoodwork8044 fair enough, thanks for responding! I'm just getting into it myself and RUclips has been a major help to me. I love your work!
Nice Video. I was rly hoping to see you assemble everything. It was a pain in the bu.. for me last time i build one like this. Looking forward for more videos.
Thank you! Yeah I think I answered the phone at some point and then just forgot to film a large part of it. I hope to improve my video making skills. Thanks again!
What a great build man! this video make me hit that fllow button for you. I always like to watch quality work like yours. I will hit that bell button too because i want to see more of you every time you upload. Keep making these great stuff my friend!
Thank you so much

A sliding dovetail and a pair of old pants, joinery at its finest ;)
Josh Howard very true! I hadn’t realised I was showing my underwear to the world! Thank you
Looking forward to some longer videos Your work is beautiful
Thank you, I'll do my best!
Beautiful! :)
Thanks!
these Felder combination machines are beautiful but I had to buy an SCMI which is a very good machine as well at a much lesser cost.
I did look at the SCM but my gut said Felder. It's been great so Far. I know a lot of SCM machines fill workshops around the world without fault though.
That is my dilemma right now, SCM or Felder. I’m also wanting to get myself in front of these machines, but they are tough to find. I’m also trying to find out from people who own these sliders, when it comes to processing sheet goods, does the outrigger set up stay pretty accurate. Thx
Very satisfying, and lovely timber...the silent planer is very quiet compared to the saw
Ronan Rogers Thank you, it’s a wonderful invention!
I didn’t know you had RUclips channel! I love this table!
Seth's Project Woodworking Thank you! I will get into filming a bit more when I’ve got more space. I’ll watch yours now!
