Amtrak dash 8 519 leading the Cardinal. NS 1067 and CSX as well.

We start the video with NS 279 at Berkley Bottoms and East End shops. NS 1067 Reading Heritage unit leads the train. Then we catch a CSX Geep 2750 leading a train Long Hood Forward at Iron Gate VA. And finally the much anticipated Amtrak Dash 8 519 leading P051. Some of these units have been taken out of service recently. So this one was being used on P050 when the Charger 354 failed on Friday was a surprise. They returned the power set on Super Bowl Sunday. Which was the second surprise.

The first 3 clips are from the weekend before. It was a rerouted 578 due to the derailment of 118 in Crum WVA. The 8101 leads 12z. We follow it from Troutville to Natural Bridge. On the way back we catch V81 at Arcadia. Then we catch 813 with NS1071 and NS8105 up front. Not a bad start to February 2025!

NS 6920 was used on V70 the Roanoke to Lynchburg turn Sunday morning January 12 2025. As we see it near Webster VA just starting up the famed Blue Ridge grade. A week later on January 19 NS Virginian heritage unit 1069 lead 19M Crew Va to Elkhart IN. The chase of this train was west of Salem to Montgomery tunnel.

First up we have Amtrak 301 in the Day 1 scheme at Rivermont bridge heading North after its first (That I’m aware of)visit to Roanoke Va. Then we catch a short CSX train entering Lynchburg Va. On a visit to South Yard in Roanoke Va to see the 1071 on 50X we see a double up 40N breaking up its train. Then NS 119 enters the North Yard. Today’s adjective was for my son to see the 6920 for the first time. Starting the morning off with 277 easing into town then we catch a local heading to Starkey. Next up we see V81 with the 6920 headed to the forwarding yard to get its one car for the day. We catch it a couple of times as it travels north. On a cold December 21st 2024 we first see Amtrak 156 with charger 317 in command at the parkway bridge. Then what was probably 19M heads west down the Blue Ridge grade. We jump to NC to see 72 headed north. Then we followed NS 16T from Marion Va to just east of Vickers Va.

NS 1066 on intermodal train 277 kicks this video off. We chased it from just west of Glenver Va to Montgomery tunnel. Then we see 19M at Friend Ship Road. What I believe was 751 enters Roanoke with a few company hoppers mix in with a mostly DKPX hopper train. Then we see 746 at JK tower heading south. Here’s the rest of the trains from our day at Walton. 29C, 41N, 288, 18W, and 126. Drove to Roanoke happen to see Amtrak P42 161 waiting to take 66 back to DC. A few days later this locomotive would catch on fire in DC and was seriously damaged.

A visit to Thomasville NC and to Mike’s Trains is always fun. As usual a few trains pass by while we are there on the Piedmont division. Amtrak 72 and NS 24X fly by at track speed. On 12/12/24 we explored the Pittsburgh line from Rockville PA to Duncannon PA. 39G had the Lackawanna heritage unit mid train DPU.

We visited the B&O museum on 8-24-24. It’s a great place to visit. This was my son’s first time visiting there. Being a Chessie fan he really enjoyed it.
