Looked up lake Monroe. Great looking fishery. Baton Rouge is getting out of hand. Only close place to catch big crappie is the Miss river

2.85 is a 2.85 pound crappie. I have caught 6 in that range and have yet to catch a 3 and I only fish for crappie. It’s amazing how many people say they have caught a 3 pounder and it’s kinda like this. You were ultimately honest about it, so I’m just making a point. I went to Grenada right after they caught all of those 3 +’s in the crappie masters 3 years ago and I caught two just under. I have also caught fish in tournaments that end up weight a lot more on the tourney scale.

Looks like fin rot . I have only caught a few wild fish like that. But I've seen plenty of aquarium fish with it. Its usually caused by a form of bacteria but can also be caused by stress.

Maybe was just in a fight with a predator or Inflamation in the Fishes Gills due to poor Water quality
