My first compost pile over 5 years ago i did the hot compost method turning it regularly but after my first pile I knew there had to be a easier way and stumbled soon Johnson su compost and I’ve never looked back I have age them close to 3 years or longer to help build up the fungal mass I use the compost with a multi species cover crop and I’m seeing really good results in my row gardens and especially in my raised beds every year I can see big improvements in the soil aggregation tons of soil life when I plant my multi species I notice tons of insect life in the cover crop as well if anyone has a garden and wants to improve soil and build soil faster multi species cover crop whenever you pull somthing out of the garden and a fungal compost you will see amazing results

this compost would be a lot better with things from the sea added. things like kelp, crab, lobster, shrimp and fish. The compost I use is called Benson's Surf and Turf. It's made right here in Maine with thngs from the land and sea of Maine. It's the best, so there is no way that his can also be the best...

Where in the world are u at???

In these videos, the farmers say they plant cover crops to help fix the soil, but don't say what they actually planted. What was it? Why did they choose it? You plant a cover crop...what happens next? I love these videos, but they lack concrete info.

They have achieved improved land however there appear to be large machinery investment.

When he said soil needs a biologically diverse fungi dominated compost because that's what the soil needs, he left out the fact that the soil needs electrolytes, that's what the plants crave. And the only way to get that is through the use of brondo. I have a feeling we will eventually just water all crops with brondo in the future.

How often do you do your tretmant of the fields??? Watering with a truck and all else??? I own a hazelnut fields and would like to improve the soil they are grown on so am wondering how often do you treat your fields? And is there such a thing as too much of it???

You could also put the feces of black soldier fly larva into your compost tea. It will cause the plants to grow thicker skin, making it more resilient to pests.

Too much equipment (expenses/liabilities), tilling, and not alternating cattle or other livestock throughout the 1000 acres. Literally all this guy needs to do is start creating paddocks across his 1000 acres, move cattle around, place his compost in the freshly stirred up paddock, and repeat. He’ll have the most organic, HQ land and beef that people will pay top dollar for all while removing about 50% of his current expenses

I live in Texas. it's really hot here in the summers. I've been fighting problems with my compost systems over heating and drying out for years. I've seen every video i can find on the Johnson-Su process and i can't directly reproduce his system like you have there. So i've split my process into two steps. The thermophilic part i do out in the regular compost pile where the heat can do it's part. And then i bring that material into the shaded , relatively cooler, area where the outdoor (half barrel sized) worm bins are located. Then the worms can do their thing for a number of months where i can keep an eye on them; temperature, extra food etc. So far my plants have been the best they've ever been. And i'm starting to work with neighbors to better feed their plants. Improves the sense of community too.

Seems like a massive energy and technology dependent Rube Goldberg machine to essentially accomplish what nature has been doing organically for millions of years. Yet, still very impressive as a modern day operation. I’ll still take cows on a rotational grazing system over this any day.
