Obviously agree. But, as a photographer in Vietnam having a sense of events was most important. It drives me crazy to see someone take a shot and immediately disengage to took at back of camera. Engaging the rhythm of the movement, anticipating, capturing. The rest is technology, especially with the electronic gadgets of today.
I really wish this video had captions--they are helpful for all students, and especially non-native English speakers.

You Sir are full of SHIT. "base on facts"? LOL.
Thank you so much for this! I really needed it for my journalism to battle with another school 😅
Thank you very much, Scott. Everything looks easier when we see a pro doing something.
1. Start with a very clear idea It should come down to, after reading an Op-Ed, anyone can say, "It was arguing X." Ex: A bumper sticker 2. Don't choose a topic, but choose an argument Writing about an argument sounds like a term paper. Writing an argument that people can disagree with while some agree with it. What makes you mad, or what makes you frustrated? 3. Start with a bang You are competing with a scarce resource: people's attention. When editing, I spend most time on the lead. 4. Very often, personal stories are incredibly powerful to make a point Don't be afraid of using the first person. Telling your stories or your family's stories is a way to make people care. 5. It's not just about writing but about multimedia, including photos 6. Don't feel the need to be formal. Academic writing is indeed formal. Newspaper writing becomes more informal and casual, feeling more colloquial. 7. Acknowledge your shortcomings in your arguments 8. It's often useful to cite an example of what you are criticizing 9. If you're trying to persuade people on the fence, think about how you can lure them over and how you use your language. Ex. Gun control -> Gun safety (trying to win over who is in the middle) 10. When your work is published, spread the word through social media or anything
Hi, thank you for the help, but if I’ve been investigating since long ago, and I know the nods to other things out of the movie like “The Lakeshore strangler is probably a nod to the Hillside Stranglers, that killed at least 11 woman in the 60s” that’s out of the movie but should I?
Thank you. Is there much MORE?
🎉🎉🎉
Cool
If only this channel existed when I was a journalism student...The only thing my professors told me was "you need to read more."
Can they access all the content?
No, just for some free games and some articles

If it’s popular vote, why would Canidates focus on states like Vermont or New Mexico? They become virtually useless compared to New York, Texas, or California

Hi Scott thank you for the insight. My father passed away in December 2022 and I started this RUclips channel to help people deal with grief and celebrate recoveries 12 steps. I still care give for my elderly mother with dementia who just had a stroke 😞 I have the AMC MoviePass so it gives me a break from caregiving. Recently started doing YT short reviews of the characters recovery issues mostly just for fun. But have started adding a longer review to my podcast so your video is really helpful. Ty
I love A.O. Scott. He is my favorite movie critic of all time. His review of Toy Story 3 really moved me I thought it was the best thing I ever read. I always wanted to write a good movie review and this video is really helpful. Thank you for sharing this.
So what is the plan when the national popular vote interstate compact runs into a dead end when it runs out of deep Blue States? Why would states that have a decent chance of going red, the most likely outcome where this compact what end up being put into action, be willing to go against the will of their people just because a majority of the national vote went a certain way? Isn't winner-take-all the major, bipartisan aspect of the Electoral College? Why don't we go towards making a compact where every state would replace it with a proportional distribution by the popular vote within their state?
3:14 great point, this happened with Indana Jones five for me, the end scene was more fun while it was happening then after sat fora while and thought how it fit into the story.
So you will publish some of the inspirational comments to pictures written by students?
Hello! This is absolutely great. I just had one query. I am not a student. Can I still a) Comment on the prompt on the website and b) Use the prompts to write about in my personal blog?
We ask that adults don't comment on our Picture Prompts - the comments forum is for students. However, by all means you can still enjoy the prompts and use them to inspire writing in your personal blog.
@@thenewyorktimeslearningnet4885 Thank you so much!
This is such an insightful webinar! Thank you so much for uploading this video!
I'll be back when The New York Times hired me, hehe<3
Interesting lots of love :)
I loved the explanation, and it made the process so much easier to understand. Thank you!
1. Know your bottom line. 2. Be concise. 3. Give an opinion and solution. 4. Do your research. 5. Write clearly. (Write as if you were writing to a friend who is well-informed and cares what you think. No slangs. Use examples.) 6. Every writer needs an editor. 7. Be prepared for a reaction.
Good
thanks for this sister i greatly appreciate
Hi. My students are from Sweden. Can they participate in the context?
Yes, students from around the world are eligible to participate in most of our contests. Look for our contest calendar on The Learning Network (the first semester of our 2022-23 calendar will publish soon). Be sure to read all the contest guidelines, because contest rules do sometimes change from year to year.
Awesome! I love this! I have to tell my students about this channel! Do you hire freelance or guest writers?

Helped a ton! have to write an editorial for my english class and i had no idea what it was until my teacher brought it up last week, although his lecture did explain it well i've forgotten most of it coz of spring break haha. Seems easy enough, especially without citations.
It isn't really, I was a young journalist since sixth grade and had a hard time with journalistic writing even during high school.
A review can affect someone's business. If there is a negative review, it can repel customers. If it is a positive review, it may attract customers.
Excellent 👍
Thankyou for this!
