My sister was a student at Syracuse at the time. I was in eight grade and she surprised me with tickets to the show. I was really into The Who at the time and had recently started playing the guitar. Pete was my hero and a huge influence on my learning to play. This was my first concert and that weekend I also got a taste of college life as I stayed in my sister’s dorm room. Great memories. What a weekend that was.

I’m not one for praise however this song along with One Life’s enough that we’re from It’s Hard album are truly very underrated songs The Who were obviously very influential on The Jam with Paul Wellar who took the genre of mod music to another level. However in my humble opinion looking at the release of this in the early eighties it looks like The Who were taking a bow in music took a leaf out of the Jam in presentation and style.

Now we're both together, We're never gonna break apart, no no, 'Cause we're a happy couple you and me, With a greyhound at either knee. I'll have ten shillings to win on Camera Flash, young man, What dog's that, it's a deuce, look at it. There was nothing in my life bigger than beer, There was nothing in my life bigger than beer, 'Ceptin' you, little darling, 'Ceptin' you, little darling, We're a happy couple you and me, With a greyhound at either knee. We go to the dog track on Saturday night, We put all our money on a dog that we like, A kiss and a cuddle, a hot meat pie, Two dollar tickets and a starry sky. There was nothing in my life bigger than beer, There was nothing in my life bigger than beer, 'Ceptin' you, little darling, 'Ceptin' you, little darling, We're a happy couple you and me, With a baby on either knee. Yes it's you little darling, Yes it's you little darling, Now it's you little darling, Now it's you. Girl, where's me wage packet ?????, Ah I'll put twenty-five knicker please on Gallop Printer, Oh, I hope the wife don't find out, Yes, it's sure to win, isn't it, Yes, I know, it's a good dog, I saw it run at White City, Just last week, broke the record, Gallop Printer, Nice dog, yes, lovely form, lovely buttocks.

Just happened to pick this song while looking for studio version from Psychoderelict. I loved the 12 string guitar I think he's playing, and the piano. I really, really miss the bass guitar lead intro though that is not on this version. Leave it to Pete Townshend to capture the despairing aspects of a relationship, especially between a couple probably at least 2 decades apart. Fortunately for me, when I remarried a gal half my age 45 vs 22, I having suffered terribly from a divorce from an American white female, sought my refuge in the Philippines where I met my wife and we have a beautiful, but most importantly sweet beyond all belief daughter. And then when I was there in Philppines, I was also singing to myself another one of Pete's masterpieces: Slit Skirts. Specifically the lines: " and those unfit for marriage took their refuge in the oil" ( Off shore oil rigs) and "No one respects the flame quite like the fool who is badly burned." Only Pete Townshend can put such twisted emotions to music. Pure (vastly underrated) musical genius.

I have been a WHO fan since I saw them destroy the stage in the greatest concert movie, Monterey Pop festival ( 1967 ), which was broadcasted on a PBS station here in Seattle back in 1970, I was 10 at the time. I called my friends up and told them to turn on the TV to channel 9 there is a rock group destroying the stage, it was the most AWESOME thing I ever saw on my dad's old 19 inch black / white Zenith TV set. I was hooked on the Who ever since. The next year Who's Next came out and to this day is still my favorite ALBUM! of all time. I like jazz too but that is another story. I am a musician that plays drums, bass, guitar along with 2 of my music buddies who are very talented, for over 35 years we play a lot of WHO. Sparks live, from Tommy is our favorite. Back in the old record days I had ALL of the Who's American released albums from My Generation 1965, to It's hard 1982. I have met and gotten autographs from Pete, Roger, John. Keith was gone by 1980. ( died in 1978 ). Just saw Pete, Roger on their final, final, final tour back in May 2016. Oh well, I gotta SCRAM! and best be gone, and play the bass line to BARGAIN. If your still upset, I apologize. P.S. I made a poster of John Entwistle with his solo albums, he did a solo gig here in 1998 he autographed it, shook my hand and said in that cool british accent " I like this ". Then I was shoved out of the way by about 40 of his groupies. Take care, and it's cool that you like the GREATEST ROCK GROUP ever!. Long Live Rock. . . I need it every night.
