Chasing Massive Wahoo Offshore! (High Speed Trolling)
“The early bird gets the worm” is an old adage that proved true for creators John McLean (Big John Outdoors) and Jack Moran (Yakin’ with Jack) during a late spring fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico. The team capitalized on a calm weather window and took their Mako 214CC offshore to blue water, aiming to land a trophy wahoo. Wahoo bite is best in low-light conditions, so the team had to make the morning hours count.
After an hour of high-speed trolling, John and Jack had just landed a cow mahi-mahi when the Penn International 30W started to sing, with line peeling off the reel rapidly. A second strike on a different rod followed, prompting the team to scramble to keep both fish on the line...

That Striper Sean caught was insane! WOW!
That second mutton floated right backnto the top
We actually tried to release two really big red grouper at the same time and the one fell off the device a little early so we had to circle back and send it the rest of the way down. Only one mutton snapper was caught and that one went in the box! The lesson learned there was to probably just send them down one at a time in that specific situation, but we went back and made sure it got all the way down the next go around.

Onc the bio's learned how slowly some of our rock fish here in ORegon grow, they implemented more restrictive regs and require the descenders. Anything to conserve the fisheries.,
