Ur explanation was wrong , 1st of all u shown the front view of 3-phase transformer actually some of are 120 degrees apart from each other in shape as well . What I feel as explanation is , when three phase rotating magnetic field is produced with respect to winding (coil) . Where as in case transformer each phase wound on one limb and remaining all limbs are connected to gether the resultant will be zero in common limb which is neutral one , as the winding feels only one volatge cause it has own path for its magnetic field so it was not a rotating field

The most important reason for using sinusoidal wave from is that it can produce rotating magnetic field which is not possible in case of other waveforms.

Let's say that if core of tranformer is made such that the limbs are 120° mechanically ("Y" like this type) apart then will there be an rmf?
