Mamie Chalmers on Protesting as Part of the Children’s Crusade in Birmingham, AL
Mamie Chalmers of Detroit was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. When Dr. King came to speak at the 16th Street Baptist Church to talk about injustices in the city, Mamie and her family were in attendance and decided to join the Children’s Crusade. Mamie was 22 at the time, and along with other protestors, was blasted with a fire hose. That moment was captured by photographer Charles Moore of the Black Star photo service. Published by LIFE magazine, it is one of the most famous images of the Civil Rights Era. The incident left Mamie deaf in one ear. She hopes that the young people of today know and understand what she and countless others were protesting for.”If we can get the younge...

I grew up in Memphis knowing Rev Kyles very well, was best friends with his son Devin Jr. Rev Kyles was a very kind man, soft spoken, good heart, a civil rights leader in Memphis, great dad, very kind and spiritual, very highly respected all of his adult life, always giving and loving, I don’t believe for a second that he had a thing to do with the assassination of Dr King. His love for the black community and our black leaders, even when he spoke to us as teens about the movement, was intense and from the his heart. Conspiracy theories always run ferociously in situations like this, its sad.
That's a great line..what's around you, doesn't have to be in you...self responsibility
RIP John Amos ❤
He wasn’t the only one involved in this. There r far more powerful people behind him, and Jesse Jackson, and that other guy who was pointing. Their lives were probably on the line too! Evil is high up. I’m fine and have peace where I am in my life. Thank God
NOISE IN BACKGROUND... THUMBS DOWN
I always watched good times growing up on the 70s, now today, it on free TV. Wonderland to watch again.😅
Grease ball

I have always maintained that she was just to pretty to be Florida's and Jame's daughter.
Thank you very much
She really beat around the bush there at the end. Lol
They had to help the writers Fup the English language is what she meant to say. But, yes, it worked / fit for that show. Top two favorite sitcoms ever, All in the Family and Good Times.
He said, the ambulance took him where I told them to taks him and that's where they finished King off
Because I’m me! That is MS. Bernadette Stanis put some RESPECT ON HER NAME Honey! I still watch good times today. She was and still is a Beautiful black woman! A true NATURAL BEAUTY!

Dag
I love her vibe.....I wish I met her She reminds me of both my auntie and sister ❤
This man was AMAZING. I visited St. Augustine after seeing a documentary called DARE NOT WALK ALONE, and I was determined to learn more about what happened in that City. I wound up visiting the ACCORD Museum and was able to speak to the women running that museum right in Dr. Hayling's former dental office. I learned so much going there, and I'm in awe of how brave Dr. Hayling was to keep fighting and organizing the young people there as they stood up for their rights. St, Augustine and the events that happened there was CRITICAL to getting the Civil Rights Bill was passed when it was. What's really strange to me is how EVEN TO THIS DAY, the leaders and Visitor's Bureau in St. Augustine STILL don't want to discuss what happened there with the Civil Rights movement. They're hoping everyone will forget I guess. I persisted, and I personally took the "Freedom Trail" in Lincolnville, visited the Hilton Hotel where a major battle happened in the swimming pool of all places, and the former Woolworth Lunch Counter now on display in a bank near the Town Square. St. Augustine needs to be on a 'Civil Rights Trail' Tour of some kind so that people can learn more about U.S. history and courageous people like Dr. Hayling. You will literally walk in the footsteps of Andrew Young and Martin Luther King when you go there. Get off that Trolley Tour and learn the whole truth about St. Augustine...it's unbelievable.

Bernadette she is still alive!!!
Every show that Norman Lear put his name to he would always have a lesson in the story, Good Times, Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Maude etc 💖
RIP Mr. Newman... He was one of my teachers at Wooddale Jr. High! Didn't know he was a musician til later, but you could tell he was somebody by the way he carried his self!
Bern Nadette Stanis was never given the royal treatment and acceptance of her TV counterparts such as Marcia Brady and Lori Partridge, even though she was ten-times more beautiful, intelligent and talented than both of them combined.
Agreed!!! She can act dance and sing!!!
Bern nadette is still looking amazing even today.
What a great man MLK was.
We were hooked after school every day when Good Times was in reruns - when Thelma got married, our whole family was glued every evening.
Rip : Floyd Newman (August 17 1931 - May 23 2023) it seems not much has really changed in the US if your black
At the end of the day not one man alive had enough love to put a bullet in this man's skull so why even bother watch it. He was a traitor and his people gave him a pass. The foot will never be taken from your throat that way. Go pray. That's why they gave you that book anyway. To give you hope that what they do to you will stop. Keep praying and killing each other.
My never changeable Facebook Photo shows me and Harris in 2009 in Delhi during the Obama administration's first overseas tour with MLK 3rd. I was blessed to have been part of INDIA XVI, an experimental Peace Corps group that Harris set up. I've lived in Asia for almost 40 years, the last 30 continuously with my Kashmiri wife. I ditto when Kevin Poole says below.
He sounds full of 💩
I had a friend like that. The weirdest thing was the mom was white and the husband was black. I won’t go into the story because it’s pretty much the same. But I will say this, I didn’t realize the mom was racist until I was much older. They moved out of our neighborhood the later part of the year, this incident happened in the spring. I never made the racist connection until later. I remember being 12 & 13, we didn’t know about racism. We went to stores and such with our parents and half our classmates were white. Like I said I didn’t learn about how cruel people were until I started going to high school. We knew how to deal with them because we were natural born fighters. And look at the world we live in now😪
Oh my GOD THELMA WAS SO FINE, I WAS SO IN LOVE WITH HER, I NEVER MISSED A SHOW, SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND REAL MY CRUSH ON HER WAS BIG TIME, I WANTED TO MARRY HER I LOVE U THELMA❤❤❤❤❤, SHE SHOULD HAVE HAD A VERY PRODUCTIVE HOLLYWOOD CAREER, SHE WAS THE VERY TRUTH THAT BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, STILL LOVE U BEN NADETTE STANIS ❤❤❤
