Some of the most impossible short takeoffs and landings (STOL) on a windy river full of S bends.
This is a video about the Levitation 4 aircraft from Tapanee Aviation, and taking-off and landing this STOL (short takeoff and landing) airplane on a windy river full of S bends, and very short straightaways
This video also demonstrates the characteristics of the Levitation 4 aircraft, and why it has such superior performance, and how this full sized aircraft can get off the water in less then 500 feet

Hi all you Christmas decorators, I have up loaded this mostly raw unnarrated video of myself installing Christmas lights on a 50 foot tree. Didn't have time to dress it up, for Christmas. Anyway it didn't work out as well as planned, because this drone (Mavic 2) was a bit under powered. I will try again with my Phantom when I get around to putting it back together.

    Like everything there is a cost. Slats allow the wing to continue operating at AoAs higher than a similar unslatted wing. So to fully exploit them you need to increase your ground attitude so that your aircraft can achieve a higher AoA in the flare without hitting tail first. You might also need more tail authority to get to the higher max AoA. On some float planes you won’t be able to rotate to an AoA that fully utilizes the maximum lift provided by the slats. The major downside to slats is drag. They really slow you down if they are not retractable. If you look at a zenith 701 it can get off after a ridiculous takeoff roll, but you won’t be getting anywhere fast. For every 5 mph you lower your stall speed by adding aerodynamic devices or wing area you pay a big penalty in terms of cruise speed. So you need to ask yourself do I really need to takeoff on a 50 ft gravel bar that one time (maybe you do?) and am I willing to pay 10 kts in cruise on every flight to do it. In my view an unslatted wing on say a super cub or a husky can make for a better all around airplane but I’m not an outdoorsman or a fisherman. we all see things differently

    • @Scotts_Outdoor_Channel
      @Scotts_Outdoor_Channel 7 месяцев назад

      This is a really good comment, The slats do retract while in cruise, but this is not a really fast aircraft. I usually cruise around 90 knots, sometimes 100 but no faster than that. I would like to fly faster most of the time. Although that is a fairly common speed for this class of aircraft. It is bigger then a Cessna 172 and has more power and useful load but the speed is the same more or less. But that's where the comparison ends. I put wheels on in the winter, and I get off the ground between 100 and 200 feet, and landing in similar distances. This doesn't make much difference at an airport, but on a field or a small lake it is a big advantage. I spend most of the summer landing on small remote lakes, so it is important to me. But it could take 2 or 3 hours to get from southern Ontario to northern Ontario, and that"s a drag for sure. I was looking at a Seawind, it's pretty fast. but it needs a lot bigger lake to land in. Anyway your comment got me thinking a bit. You should check out the video that I put out, it's all about stol landing and takeoffs. ruclips.net/video/VlTBr66W49s/видео.html

      Yes you are quite right about that, the Highlander (which is a phenomenal plane) will get off the ground in about 20 feet with a good headwind, and it probably weighs 1300 Lbs max.. It is a very light aircraft built for STOL and it is on wheels, fairly low friction with the ground. The Levitation Is a lot heavier plane at max it weighs 2500 Lbs. It can get off the ground on wheels in 100 feet on a good day. The water on the other hand creates a lot of friction and the floats have to get up on step, or hydroplane on the water before it can build up enough speed to rotate. That typically is 47 knots and can happen anywhere from 250 to 500 feet depending on the day and the temperature, the colder the better. I hope that helps Scott

      I stand corrected, all these years Americans have come to Canada to fish with us and have called the fish Walleye and we have always called them Pickerel. When I read your comment, I looked it up, and this is what I found on Google; Both are freshwater fishes found in Canada and North America. In Canada, the walleye is locally called a pickerel, which adds to the confusion. However, although the walleye may be called pickerel in some parts of Canada, walleye and pickerel are not the same fish.... So as you can see my confusion, we in Canada have been calling Walleye Pickerel all of my lifetime anyway. From the pictures on the article, the fish I have been catching are Walleye and not Pickerel. So thank you, I will not be calling them Walleye any longer.
