Over the weekend I watched Batman returns (yes I know it's debatable if it's a Xmas movie), Elf, Bad Santa, and It's a wonderful life. I saw It's a wonderful life for the first time yesterday. To be honest the first hour and a half dragged at points and it didn't keep my interest very much. But the last half hour blew me away and makes the whole movie worth it. You hit the nail on the head how it's the quintessential redemption story. George is a very tragic character who hits rock bottom but is able to redeem himself in the end, the ending is one of the best I've seen in film.
