I followed all the steps here and it just output an audio-only mp4. Filetype says mp4 but there's no actual video. Yes, I clicked all the right things according to the video, and I quadruple checked I did every step. What happened?

Really good video. One question if I may SeyWut, what do you have in the UV material you used? It's just a standardSurface material (or the Arnold equivalent) with just the UV colored checkerboard image? Any other setting on the material? (if you have a video of it let me know)

0:06 I don't understand why so many people use the automatic layout, then proceed to piece together the shells. That process seems so backwards and inefficient to me since the automatic process almost mindlessly puts cuts everywhere and splits your mesh into many shells, that it turns into a puzzle putting things back together in a more meaningful way. Its far easier to put cuts directly onto the mesh and then unfold that way. I've seen so many teachers follow the auto -> sew approach though and it always boggles my mind, makes me wonder if I'm missing something. PS: I'm not talking about this particular Unitize workflow, but what you said your normal workflow is. That aside, great video!

Got a question... I have a model with a hundred smaller objects comprising it. I've UV'd all of them. Great fun. But, when I hit the Layout button, not only do their relative sizes get knocked out of whack (I have them all proportional to each other before hitting "Layout"), but their positions get scattered everywhere, so that, e.g., a single bolt which may have 3 or 4 small UV shells, has those shells scattered all over the UV grid. I want them kept together. How does one accomplish this??

This method is nice but won't work with UDIMs, dunno if it's a bug or whatever. I tried it thousand time with almost every setting, but nothing worked well. Maybe I'll write this issue to Autodesk, but anyway. Here is the solution I found out. 1. Do your seams, unwraps, AutoUV or everything else which belongs to the well known UV workflow 2. Wet all shells to the same size (like shown in the Video), but be aware of that the biggest shell never crosses the border of one tile. Some painting tools don't like that ;-) (SubstancePainter). Either decrease the size or split the shell then 3. When it comes to the Layout, go to the Layout menu (like shown in the Video) 4. DON'T USE THE Unfold3D method (Unfold3D is great PlugIn for Maya, but in this case, something went wrong). Use the old Legacy method instead! 5. Use the following setting (little bit similar to Houdini btw.) -single or multiple objects -prescale = none -flip reversed -Shell layout: Grid -choose your grid layout (it's up to you) -scale mode: either none (if you want to use your fixed scale (could produce some overlaps at tile borders sometimes, but just at few shells, should be fixed fast or choose uniform, that scales all shells related to the grid layout, BUT ALLL AT The same time, unlike the unfold 3D method -rotate: free (it's up to you as well) shellspacing: choose a small amount or easily use the presets

Thanks man, thats realy work! but... If before that u use unfold3d method on over shells of mesh, when u do this legacy trick, your shells from over parts comes in that unfold. Even if you don't choose them :/

This was simple genius. My brain kinda knew this could be done but couldn't figure it all out without seeing it first lol. Would this same technique work for a "pipe-like" limb, such as legs, or arms/shoulders (ie. When they are not quite uniform width throughout)?
