Tip: Use Warm-White LEDs, looks much better. Also make a seperated circuit (with full bridge rectifier) for the LEDs with a buffer of 1000uf at the AC input side. This avoids a bouncing effect (on BASS) when the amplifier is cranked up. Especially on older machines this bouncing effect can be an issue because of older caps in the system or feedback dips. If you want to use the LEDs also on battery, implement a 7805 with 1000uF cap into the circuit that stabilize the voltage for the LEDs. I have used this all several times and the result is excellent. Much better than tapping on a suitable line inside the existing circuit.
Thank you for sharing your experience and watching my videos. This project came about spontaneously. I had burnt out both light bulbs and I didn't have them in stock, so I decided to replace them with LED. Yes the LEDs were cold white, but in reality they don't look bluish, which is enhanced by the camera. I used the original power supply circuit for the power supply, the cartridge power supply circuit for the cartridge compartment, and a 1.2k resistor. I will try your suggested vsriant next time.
Well done !
Hi. Thanks so much for the in-depth videos. We're restoring the same model but have hit a snag. When playing tapes, the sound is extremely muffled--as if here's a blanket over it. I've read a lot about adjusting the tape head but I cannot find the adjustment anywhere on this unit. It's usually just under the head, but it doesn't seem to be there. The unit is completely apart. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
@@BCCollectibles99 Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad my videos are helping you. There may be a few problems with poor sound quality: fouled head, worn head, misaligned azimuth. Often the azimuth is out of alignment. It is adjusted with the left head mounting screw. It is best to choose a good quality original recording for adjustment. Good luck with your restoration! :)
@@restoration-RC-Studio thank's much! we'll give it a try!
Cool and very detailed videos you make, a new subriber arrived! Verry funny song you use at the final result, it is self descriptive for the machine. 😄I have a Siemens Club 735 and I think it is actually made by Sanyo for Siemens. Very similar deck construction. It also need a repair. I don't know about yours but the take up wheels are partly made of rubber and at mine they are completely perished/gone. I have no idea how to fix this. Now I have only two poking rods without the required tooth to be able to spin a cassette wheel/hub. I can replace the belts but after that is still impossible to use and play a cassette. What can I do? Any ideas? Thank you for posting your wonderful work, needs more views and subcribers!
Hello. Thank you for your kind words. It keeps me going. Yes you are right, the manufacturer of the siemens club 735 is definitely Sanyo. This model is one of the boombox with the best sound quality. But it is a master's worst nightmare :) I promised not to touch such a boombox again. Well, you should look for a donor to rebuild the audio cassette mechanism, or use the aux for another audio signal. Thanks again for your comment and welcome to my channel. :)

I have the same unit the SHARP GF8989E i bought it brand new in 1981 for £299. I service it every 2 years and plays fantastic. I really enjoyed watching you're restoration but, the inky thing that didnt impress me was that you were cleaning parts over the top of the tape mechanism. And the fact that you cleaned the the capstan pulley with emery paper over the top of it as well........is shocking.
Super nice mi amigo
Super nice
The volume knob failure is not a big problem, you can replace it with ease
hate to say it.. but i probably would have ditched the speakers.. adding the rubber you put on will change the way the speaker would normally sound.. making it less flexible.. i do commend you on attempting it though.. it definitely is in rough shape.. your a better man than i lol.. great job on the rest of the restoration..
Thank you for your comment. Of course, replacing the speaker would be the best option, but I didn't have the right one. I used a sealant for bonding, which stays elastic like rubber when it sets. And covering the speakers with an acoustic cloth did not really affect the appearance in my opinion. As for the sound quality, I did not hear any difference. Maybe it's because I'm not very young and don't hear all the sounds anymore 😊 Good luck!

What year is this radio?
Hi. Thank you for question. I think about 1983-1985. Regards
Ar daug darbo buvo prie cobros rx
Taip, darbo buvo daug. Labai daug varštelių sukiojimo, nes norint pakeisti dirželius, reikia visą išardyti. Nors it taip reikėjo visą išrinkti, nes reikėjo išplauti. Ir su korpusu daug poliravimo buvo. Na, bet rezultatas manau gavosi geras. Labai geras garsas.

The MU-300 tape drive, licensed by japan, used for many RFT devices in German Democratic Republic (so called DDR or Eastern Germany). My SK-700 has this drive. When it is optimized it is a good drive, but the optimization is a pain in the **s.
I also dismantled my radio. And I took the buttons out of the cassette player. And after I put the buttons back on it started to click when playing and the play button pops back on when I press it. How do I put it back so it doesn't click and bounce back? Thanks in advance for your help!
This happens when the automatic stop is activated. I'm sorry, but I don't remember what to do... Maybe you are trying without an audio cassette?

Sexy! ✌️
I had I mean one of those and I want it back!!!
Now I'm looking to buy one , it was exactly like that one , I miss it, I was probably 19 or 20 something
How did you get the board pulled back so you could get at the tape mech? I feel like mine just needs a belt replacement, but this is a different destine than the Sonys I've worked on.
Many thanks for taking the time to record the restoration process!! both videos are great!! A quick question. When playing tapes the play speed is slow. Belts need to be changed? I cleaned everything like the video. Firts try it played great, then started to play slow. Any help will be much appreciated!
Thank you for your question. Lower speeds are most common if the belt is too small. It must have minimum tension. It must not stop immediately when the hand is turned. It has to continue turning a little more. You can adjust the speed by adjusting the speed There is a round hole at the back of the motor with a rubber. It is cut in a cross. Take a small screwdriver and feel the regulator until you feel it. This way you can adjust the speed. But first the belts must be the right length.
@restoration-RC-Studio many thanks! In fact, I did the same cleaning as shown in the video and problem solved. It seems due to poor maintenance. Many thanks!

Nice video. What drive belt did you use for this?
I'm sorry, I don't really remember...
Excellent work! I've got one of these and am looking into getting a new belt for it. Do you know where the speed adjustment screw is? I can't locate it.
Hi, that worked. Can I ask what to do for future updates? I have kept a full backup of the original Garmin software, do I have to re-load that and do the same again, or is there a shortcut method?
Good question. I haven't tried it, as I don't have a motorbike and no sat nav. I have been doing navigation for many years, helping other users. I recently discovered this method, so there was no opportunity to update again. But I think it is not a problem to use this method as well. 😊
