Thanks! It's a really quirky machine. I think it works best to treat it as an explorative device. Start fiddling around and see what happens and proceed from there. I hate the "happy accident machine" label, but it's not too far off base.

Honestly I can't really remember the specifics of this patch. I normally apply a very low amount of random wave LFO to the filter to create a subtle variance for organish sounds. I think that's what's going on here, but can't be 100 percent sure.

It's really well built. Top notch drone for sure.

Honestly, I can't remember. I'm guessing it was a low 1-3-5 progression with a relatively slow clock. The staggered steps on the oscillators are providing a lot of the variation.

Not yet unfortunately. Family and a full-time job are really preventing me from getting to a lot of musical pursuits beyond daily practice.

Glad you found the patches helpful. It really is an incredible soundscaping machine. Maybe the best all in one analog package for this kind of thing. I still love it.

@@riotbell5365 Always a suitable name can raise the value of a patch. I am a KORG sound developer and sometimes I have this problem with the right pre-set name. Of course we have some rules 🙂. I also use Matriarch and will try your sounds someday. Thanks again !

Thanks. The Grandmother is a gorgeous synth and a wonderful instrument with which to begin an ambient journey.

That's very kind of you. Brian Eno's early work is one of my primary inspirations when putting together these types of pieces. Love the textures and the layering he was able to accomplish with such rudimentary gear. I'm looping via a Microcosm which is off screen.

Yes and no. You can run any instrument into the Matriarch provided you have an instrument cable with a 1/4 inch jack (Instrument-In). I've got an Intellijel audio interface module which can convert eurorack signal into line/instrument level. Thus I can run a eurorack sampler like the Assimil8tor into the Matriarch to take advantage of the filter/delay. Hope that helps.

@@sashaatree6535 That's actually exactly what's going on in this video. The bass line was recorded with the Matriarch and sampled into the Assimil8tor and looped back into the Matriarch via the Instrument-In. The randomized sequencing is taking place in real time on the Matriarch and the sounds are blended together and sent through the stereo outs of the Matriarch to an audio interface linking up the DAW for final recording.

@@sashaatree6535 Sure. All you would need is an 1/4 jack and something like a preamp or audio interface to raise the iPad output to line level to send it into the Matriarch.

Totally agree. All the Matriarch. But pretty crazy you can just run a guitar straight into it.

The water patch was pure stroke of luck. Couldn't create it again in a hundred years without looking at the recording.

@@riotbell5365 that's the beauty of it, in the older days we had to finish the track on the spot because the next day the things never sounded the same even when you let them powered.

It's a truly glorious sounding synth in total isolation. I actually can't think of another synth that sounds so good without the help of external effects etc. My use of it has ebbed and flowed through the years. I went about a year without playing it. Almost sold it during that time, but that stereo delay is irreplaceable. Hope you have fun revisiting a beautiful instrument.
