  • @larrys-qr6zr
    @larrys-qr6zr 12 часов назад

    Don't heat amber on a wax pot it is too hot for the stone. To polish, use a pair of old jeans on your thigh and gently rub the stone back and forth. The friction will polish the stone, if it does not come up shiny put a dab of toothpaste on the jeans.

    Thank you for showing us your creative process. Ive been trying to imagine ways to put all my slabs into a mosaic, and short of an epoxy bath, this method is probably the tried and true. Would you post a shot of the finished piece framed?

  • @jamesmartz4755
    @jamesmartz4755 12 дней назад

    It's definitely melting on you, I have the same thing happen when I try finishing the polish with a buffing wheel. Try shaping it (very slowly, allowing it to cool) with the wheel, then hand polish with sandpaper to at least 1000 grit, and finish with titanium dioxide (or white toothpaste) on a piece of denim. The black stuff is coal, so try not to breath it in - there's also sand and volcanic dust trapped in some of them, which can make getting a perfect polish difficult... and of course, the fractures. Even taking things slow, Indonesian amber tends to get a gummy layer that takes away from the shine... I haven't quite got it figured out, but it eventually stops forming if you clean it enough and coat it with a thin layer of oil.

Was in greater Phoenix; only got to a rock shop, Hodson's, where there were large sections of awesome Rainbow petrifled wood in large rectangular fish tanks filled with water. Had never seen anything like this before. Might have read an article on this type of petrified wood in The Lapidary Journal, c. 1967/1968. Enjoyed this video. Keep on hunting rocks & making videos. This winter I was on 40 acres of a friend’s land that had mounds of the rainbow petrified wood showing. I brought some larger pieces back with me to Lake Havasu. I left many many many smaller pieces there. It felt like it was an old forest being exposed. I am a neophyte so I could just be making stuff up lol. I kept saying to my friend I’m sure this is petrified wood, but I’ve never seen petrified wood this colorful. Are used to go hunting petrified wood with my parents up by Zion, and that would look totally different . A found wood with the Cambian layer, but I also found a larger piece and when I say larger football basketball size that I swear as bark. I’m 80% sure of what I have.
