I have a question; is the girl in Happier the same as the one in Driver's License or whatever other Liv songs are allegedly/supposedly about Sabrina? Because if she is, does that mean Olivia doesnt even hate her? Cuz some of the lines in Happier show she doesn't really blame Sabrina or has any strong feelings for her. Or at least she's trying not to "One more girl who brings out the better in you" "But she's so sweet, she's so pretty" "And now I'm picking her apart, like cutting her down will make you miss my wretched heart. But she's beautiful, she looks kind. She probably gives you butterflies"

A reminder that Olivia never mentioned who her songs were about, never named anyone, and never wrote anything negative about the girl involved. In fact, Olivia's songs actually praised the other girl and placed the blame firmly on the guy's actions (this is in contrast to Sabrina's song "Skin" which taunted the other girl by saying that the guy was "all on my skin" and telling the girl "don't drive yourself insane" which was not only condescending but was mocking someone's mental health). Olivia was also 17 at the time and Sabrina was in her 20s. Sabrina also had an established fanbase (already with 25 million Instagram followers back in February 2021) whilst Olivia at the time of her debut song only had 2 million followers. It was actually the general public who were largely responsible for the hate because Olivia didn't have an established fanbase at 17 but this is always deliberately overlooked. The fact that people don't already see the power imbalance in this dynamic and choose to blame Olivia for the actions of others whilst completely ignoring the way Sabrina's large fanbase attacked Olivia is wrong. Again, Olivia's song didn't even say anything negative about Sabrina, whereas Sabrina's song made personal digs at Olivia. Sabrina choosing to respond that way and essentially claiming the song was about her despite Olivia never naming anyone, then resulted in Sabrina's larger fanbase attacking a teenager and sending her death threats. Sabrina doesn't get held responsible for that as a woman in her 20s but there's people saying they hate Olivia because she didn't speak up as a teenager? Even now in 2024 Sabrina's fans have been stalking Barry's child and grandma (something far worse because it's not just a hateful comment online) but I don't see people expecting Sabrina to have to speak up. Sabrina's fans are trying to say that it isn't all of her fans but these are the same people who refuse to accept that it wasn't all Olivia's fans either. It should be clearer than ever that Olivia as a teenager wasn't responsible for the general public's actions. People also seem quick to forget the climate of hostility that existed and still exists which remains based in white supremacy (with anti-Asian hate and anti-Immigration hate at an all-time high). Olivia as someone with Asian Filipino heritage (and who was also mistakenly called Mexican) has been affected by racist hate in ways that Sabrina as a blonde white woman never has been and never will be. So often white women are given the benefit of the doubt and afforded victimhood, whilst those who aren't white are instead demonized even for the same actions. A half Filipino teenager is now being painted as some evil person, whilst the white woman in her 20s is positioned as the innocent victim. It's actually disturbing that people don't even think about the implications of their comments or the way white women's tears are weaponized against poc. I've seen Olivia be sent death threats since she was a teenager from other fandoms and yet none of those other artists have ever been asked to stand up for Olivia (and some of those artists are over a decade older than Olivia). It's pathetic to see comments saying they hate Olivia because as a 17 year old she wrote a song about being heartbroken and didn't know how to fully deal with everything that happened afterwards (a song that never named anyone). If you have understanding for Sabrina in her mid-20s not speaking out against her fans sending death threats or stalking a toddler in 2024, then surely you can understand Olivia at the age of 17 in 2021 and stop villainizing her. Otherwise you're actually just hypocrites. Indeed the double standards are very clear when older white artists are continually given grace and perceived as innocent whilst people demonize anyone outside of that narrow ideal.
