Iowa's largest outdoor #show was held at the #mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa every Labor Day weekend from the 1930s through the 1960s. The show featured wagon races, covered wagon races, Oklahoma land rush reenactments, and other horse and rider displays. In some years, horses and riders paraded through Davenport dressed in elaborate costumes. At times the Outdoor Show featured up to 32 acts from places like Chicago and New York. It was sponsored by the Farmer's Union for four years and later by the Davenport Lion's Club. Frank Karstens conceived and organized the show. Karstens was born in Davenport on July 28, 1892 and married...

It's weird. When I was growing up in the 90's they made it seem like nothing really happened with movies and tv before silent film but the truth is there was a whole world of pictures and films long before everyone started enjoying silent films. I love seeing films like this the most, real people doing real things enjoying cameras for the first time the way we enjoyed computers and cellphones for the first time. I especially love the clothes though. People don't dress nicely anymore imo. Thanks for sharing!
