I think it's just a question of coordinate system. Forgetting about how difficult it would be to express forces in the flat earth coordinate system, I'd say you can start with the base of the form of flat earth and use a polar complex number representation of the surface of earth, where the radius would indicate distance from north pole and the argument would indicate the longitude.
