Listening to this song this morning, it resonated, and I felt melancholy out of nowhere, I had nothing to be sad about, but I had this feeling that I can lose everything I love at any moment. It brought out a sadness, I have never felt like that after listening to a song. But in the end, you realize that it does not matter that you can lose everything you love, what matters is that you have it now. There is no bracing for tragedy, it will hurt just the same. Better to savor the moments we have. We have homes, communities, laws and governance, so we forget that truly we are just animals at the whims of nature, we can never guarantee safety, just as animals in the wild could be hunted down as prey at any moment, life can be so fleeting and cruel. But animals live and die everyday, and as elevated as humans seem we too are part of this nature, as much as we try to protect ourselves from what is natural, death is part of the experience. This song helped me reflect on that.
