A graduate of the Colburn Music Academy, violinist Blues Zhang is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree at The Juilliard School under Catherine Cho. Born into a musical family, he first studied violin with his mother, Zhang Xi, first violinist of the Hong Kong Philharmonia Orchestra. He went on to pursue studies with Martin Beaver, a former member of the Tokyo String Quartet. Blues has been named a winner of the Colburn Academy Concerto Competition, and was most recently finalist in the Juilliard Concerto Competition and Musicus Society Young Artist Audition. An active orchestral musician, he served as Concertmaster of the Colburn Virtuosi and the Hong Kong Camerata Strings. Previous festivals include Norfolk, Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, Meadowmount School, New York String Orchestra, Heifetz, and the Asian Youth Orchestra.
