The End of the World (c. 1851-1853), One Minute Art
The End of the World (The Great Day of His Wrath)
John Martin
c. 1851-1853
This painting goes by two names.
In it we see the apocalyptic aftermath of God’s Final Judgement.
Some think John Martin was inspired by Britain’s industrial revolution, and is depicting several landmarks in Scotland.
Others say that we are watching the overturning of Babylon, as the sinful souls tumble into the abyss.
This comes last in a triptych of large paintings, though it was probably painted second.
The painting is lit by the divine lightning-plus the lava-and the red sun from the second painting brings some more continuity to this piece.
With their high spectacle and straightforward religious message, these were...

The Last Judgement John Martin (c. 1852) The Last Judgement is an exciting, sweeping, high-drama, oil-on-canvas painting, completed a couple years before the artist’s death. It was the first work painted of a triptych by the same name, although it is positioned in the middle of the sequence. This piece is divided into three regions. At the top, God metes out his titular Judgement on the people ...

OMArt The Plains of Heaven John Martin (c. 1852) The Plains of Heaven by John Martin depicts a scene from The Last Judgment, as expressed in the Book of Revelation. It was arranged as first in a triptych, although it was probably painted last. All the paintings in this series are quite large (2.4m x 3.47 m, or 94” x 137”), and this one blends into the second. The Plains of Heaven came at the pe...

OMArt the Funaki Screens (1615) These are the Funaki Screens (Rakuchu Rakugai Zu), a pair of six-panel folding screens from the early Edo period. They present an idealized birds-eye view of Kyoto, Japan’s capital for more than a thousand years. Japanese gold leaf is the world’s thinnest, and the combination of color and gold overtop washi paper create a delicate image that continues across all ...

Interesting Jon, first time this year seeing this here in Mexico in the market, from what I've seen here on RUclips, they're supposed to be boiled, with some cinnamon stick added and after they've cooked awhile they're blended into juice, so I guess they need to be cooked so the flavor will be refined. Thanks for this COOL short, you saved me from the bitter aftertaste of tasting it raw. : )
should have waited for it to turn yellow
Like Yorrick? 🎉😢😅
Hors
Beautiful.
What was she holding before it got stolen?
Tends to be an ankh and crook and flail. Usually in stone, so they may have just broken off.
"Wait from them to turn orange or yellow before you eat them" *eats one thats half green* 🤣 Ripe jocotes are not at all sour or bitter. Top 3 favorite fruits for me
I love this breakdown, thanks so much for posting! I'd seen this image and never knew its history. Appreciate it
Literally me
What? It's not Kichitigarba Pronounce it as Xi Thi Gar Bha Kshithigarbha
Crazy how they used paintings as a form of Art and to record events through different viewpoints almost like a photograph 😅
Fascinating!
Masterful painting
Well done. We’re drawn to some very horrible things. Macabre, mostly unnecessary, but then sometimes sparking innovation.
It's impressive how realistic it looks
Haha fun and well crafted

You skipped fermentation
Traditionally in west indies we use milk and not water, it makes strong chocolate !
Good job
Beautiful video.
It's supposed to taste sour.. almost like a mix of date with lemon juice. You can also find "sweet" tamarind version which tastes so good ❤
I prefer eat it when it is green and fresh inside , more like sour taste
At first I was like yay sausage then I was like ew fruit
True but fruit isn't ew
This fruit is from a tree is called Chico zapote Or another words the Gumtree back in the day Mr. Adams relative of the President of the United States went to Mexico and find out that this tree have a racing He notice the locals use it to clean up their teeth and then he take these gum over to the US and make the chicles Adams As we know it today
Could this be the wild version of passion fruit ?
You completely forget the World's largest Earth Filled Dam, Tarbela Dam 🇵🇰 much larger than majority of the dams mentioned here. Also Tarbela Dam generates it's maximum 100% capacity for months long period of July and August and often still has more water that gets to be released from emergency gates. Even Mangla Dam 🇵🇰 is also larger than majority of Dams in the list.

Called ilama or Annona diversifolia custard apple is a relative
I didn't think you could eat them straight out of the pod without SOME processing. That's really neat
Cool content but needs a little editing
The vast beautiful mystery of space ❤
“The authority of daimyo rested on successful conflict, and this proved the way to retain the support of vassals. The idea that the latter should be loyal to daimyo who inherited their position meant little if the daimyo could not win victory and the lands and prestige that came with it. The need for such success helped ensure that betrayal was central to the politics of daimyo conflict; and, as a result, treachery played an important role in both battles and the seizure of fortresses. Operations were partly designed so as to display strength, and thus induce surrender and deter treachery.” -Jeremy Black Do daimyo conflicts remind you of anything? Does conflict still follow the same physics? How has it transformed into our modern age?
“There is an acceptance in many circles that we now conduct operations rather than wars, but we still expect them to deliver a definitive military victory in its own right that will resolve a political problem, rather than one that contributes and supports the resolution of the matter by other means. There is no understanding that we live in a condition of continuous confrontation and conflict, and that therefore these operations are conflicts derived from political confrontations, and that even if military action is on a big scale, and even if it is successful, the confrontation will remain, to be resolved by other means and levers of power.” -General Sir Rupert Smith Do you agree with Sir Rupert Smith? Is this why our conflicts seem timeless and unending, or are there other unspoken reasons?
“In argument he never tried to overbear or overwhelm the opponent by intellectual bludgeoning. He made the opponent a fellow seeker after truth. The aim always was to convert, never to coerce or suppress. The opponent never smarted under the humiliation of defeat but shared in full the thrill and joy of the discovery of truth which he was made to feel was as much his as Gandhiji’s…By harboring the disloyal, he dispelled their disloyalty.” -Louis Fischer, on Gandhi Is Gandhi's strategy of satyagraha-soul force-still applicable in today's world? Or has the social context shifted so much that Truth is no longer the way to effect change? What do you think of this passage?
“War will not again be displayed in its original form…war is no longer even war but rather coming to grips on the Internet, and matching the mass media, assault and defense in forward exchange transactions, along with other things which we had never viewed as war, now possibly causing us all to drop our eyeglasses… The enemy will possibly not be the originally significant enemy, the weapons will possibly not be the original weapons, and the battlefield will also possibly not be the original battlefield. Nothing is definite…The game has already changed, and what we need to continue is ascertaining a new type of fighting method within various uncertainties.” -Unrestricted Warfare Is this quote about war prescient, nonsense, or just plain common sense? Sound off in the comments.
