The Hiking Journal
Великобритания
Добавлен 12 янв 2023
The Hiking Journal is dedicated to showing my hiking adventures in the National Parks of England, Wales and Scotland. My initial series of videos 'Hiking The Bob Graham Round' show me hiking the 99km circular route that starts and finishes in Keswick, Cumbria, UK - with 8160m of ascent over 42 fell summits. Usually this is a challenge for fell runners to complete within 24hrs but I decided to hike the route and wild camp along the way. I hope you enjoy viewing my journey as much as I did hiking and filming the expedition. And if you enjoyed a video please don't forget to like and subscribe. Thanks.

Watch now to see how I complete my Cumbria Way journey.

I've done my best to put this video together but I think it's watchable. I hope you enjoy it. *Spoiler alert. I miss out most of the Wasdale fells but I do return a few weeks later to complete this...

Crackin video mate absolutely loved it.All the best😎👍
Cheers and thanks for watching 👍
well done, I did the reverse way in 4 days a couple of weeks ago too. Had to use the GPS route tracker on my watch as the signage going north to south is appalling.
Thanks, and congrats also. Yes, I can imagine the signage is worse going that way. The route was devised in the 70's and it feels like most of the signs haven't been updated since.
Well done on finishing the Cumbria Way, 👏 petty it was raining at the end.🙄 I should have mentioned the path up to lingy hut when we meet in the valley, it looked worse than I remembered when I went up that way 4 years ago, at least the diversion didn’t cost you much time and a your brave man for going over the land slide 😮 I’ve subbed to your channel nice to of briefly met. Ps the tripod I had is called UURIG the other one but exact same that I couldn’t remember the name of is ULANZI. ATB Karl 👍
Thanks and congrats to you too! The landslide was just a bit muddy, though more daft than brave 😀 I'll check out those tripod brands. Cheers!
Well done. Great scenery, even in the rain. Cheers from New Zealand. 😊
Cheers! and thanks again for watching 😀👍
Well done excellent video thank you for sharing it with us, delight to watch and very entertaining. xxxxx
Thanks very much, I'm really glad you enjoyed watching 😄👍
Well done 🎉, was hoping to leave tomorrow starting Sunday, weathers not looking great 😢, only got the next 2 weeks to attempt it. Don’t want to be walking with rain every day.
Cheers, yeah July hasn't been great - hope you get a break with the weather, all the best with the trail!
Well done Must feel good to get to Carlisle and sign that book Can’t wait to do that trail Regards Jeff
Thanks Jeff, yeah it's a strange one - on the final bit you just want to get to the end, but once you've done it it's quite hard to stop thinking about the trail and I just wanted to continue (after a short break at least). Good luck with your journey on the trail!
Another great video Great information and views Regards Jeff
Cheers Jeff!
Hi. Wife and I did the Coast2Coast September 2015. Great experience and your videos bring back memories of our trip. Beautiful scenery. Cheers from New Zealand.
Cheers and thanks for watching. C2C is on my must do list and New Zealand also :)
Nice to watch and bring back memories of our Cumbrian way journey. We had OS APP with map in Hebrides back in April (doing the Hebridean way) , App just randomly logged me out and couldn't log back in because of no internet connection, who ever though that was a good idea at OS? I've swapped back to my Garmin, will never trust that App again, it could have really messed things up through Navigation, but as most, have backups on watch, paper map 1:200000 (not ideal) and Garmin 700i.
Thanks for watching. I think it was user error on my part with the OS app, but the app still needs improving to make it more user friendly and less buggy.
Brilliant scenery man, this looks and feels amazing! Absolutely amazing!
Thanks again for watching!
Great videos
Cheers and thanks for watching
Another great day
Thanks, it sure was!
Thanks for this video as many people have said it is very poorly signposted and this is the part of the route I was wary about Can’t wait to go and definitely taking my map Regards Jeff
Thanks for watching, it's not too bad, just navigating around all the farmland is where you need to keep an eye on the map. I used the OS app on my phone. I hope you enjoy the trail. Cheers!
Well done amasing scenery, hope the trip goes well for you, take care thank you for sharing it wilth us.
Cheers, and thanks for watching. The trip went really well. Stay tuned for more episodes 🙂
This place is magnificent! Watching this just makes me feel good man! Brilliant storytelling 👏👏
Cheers, thanks for watching!
Amazing that a long distance path through one of the most popular hiking areas in England is so poorly sign-posted. I did the Coast to Coast many years ago and some of the signage was less than great - but I am sure it was improved by now due to its popularity. Great video - hope you enjoyed the walk.
Yeah it looked like the signage hadn't been updated in a long time. Other than that (and the last bit into Carlisle) the trail was great and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching, the next video is almost finished, so look out for that :) Cheers!
Outstanding episode man, this looks and feels amazing!
Cheers and thanks for watching. I'll be dropping the next episode soon.
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing. Like 👍15
Great video 👍
Very nice video 👍🙂
"Its half eight now, how longs it going to take me, 3 hours, 4 hours?" -- to get back to the car. 😭 Oh dear! Lol. One to laugh about later, but horrendous at the time. Excellent video though!! Buttermere valley looks amazing!
Cheers matey! Yeah I waited almost a year for the embarrassment to dissipate before I released this video.
Oh eck ! we know how you feel. We took new tent to Castlerigg at Keswick, only to find we hadn't packed the poles !! We've been back since and had a great time. We are sure that you will too.
Good to know it's not just me 😀
Preparation, what you need
Yeah, yeah. Preparation was partly to blame and a last minute bag change... excuses, excuses... We hopefully learn from our mistakes.
Great video, thanks for sharing 👍
Cheers! Thanks for watching 😀👍
Amazing views. Great video. Thanks for sharing. sub & 👍11. Quick question, what does the word fell mean in terms of the hiking route?
Thanks. Fell means hill or mountain.
"We are the knights who say cnicht!" - imposing looking peak that,! The views looked spectacular! Thanks for sharing- great content as always!! Enjoyed the Raven fly over at 8.17! Looking forward to "Pitch up -then brew up!" Merch!
Cheers! More like - "The Knights who can't say Cnicht! (or any other Welsh mountain)"🤣 Merch is an excellent idea, check out my Redbubble store soon!
Very good👍 The views from 9 mins are stunning. Great spot to camp. The views for sunrise 🌅 were golden. Great drone footage. The slate quarry looks awesome. Nice watch.👍 Liked and already subbed.👋
Thanks Jamie. Yeah I got very lucky finding that spot to camp and the sunrise was a bonus. The old slate mines are fascinating places, well worth a revisit. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! 👍
What a stunning adventure man! This looks insanely spectacular!
Cheers! It was great couple of days in the Welsh hills, looking forward to getting back out there again soon. Thanks for watching.
Hi. Really enjoyed that. I go out as often as I can hiking etc. I'm trying to bring in wild camp every month or so. I need to buy some better kit soon. Your vids are very good. I'm learning, not the best with tech but enjoying going out. I'm going up this area soon. Noticed you got some from the Brecon Beacons too. That’s very near for me. Great drone images and what a view you had the next morning in the tent. Stunning. I'll follow your journey now. Liked and subbed.👍
Cheers Jamie, and thanks for watching and subscribing. I need to get back out there soon, just waiting for the weather to improve. Will check out your channel for ideas to camp and hike in the amazing Brecon Beacons. 👍
@FellHiker The weather's been pretty poor so far this year. It should start improving. There's some cool places this way. Sometimes I go out and do two trips in a day, making 2 seperate vids. Quite a few interesting things on the mountains. I've been to 3 plane sites. Really sad to see but powerful. They have interesting stories. I'm looking forward to doing more in England soon. I have a few here to do first but probably June I should be there. So many to see.😁👋
@@JamieHarding5 Thanks for the info. 2 vids in one day is good going! Good luck with the channel and future adventures 😃👍
@@FellHiker Thanks. I was out this morning on a hike, only a small one. Different walking for me shortly. I walking 2 miles to Wetherspoons for a couple of pints. I will catch up on some more of yours some. Helps me to know where to go in the future. 👍
Been a very wet start to the year. Still great to get out into the fresh air and clean out the soul. Best wishes on the next adventure!
Cheers! I've got lots of adventures planned for this year, looking forward to getting out again soon.
The drone footage is SPECTACULAR - first class edit on this one! Keep up the great work!
Cheers I'll try and keep up the quality for future videos 😅 . Thanks for watching 👍
Amazing drone footage, looks great. Looking forward to your next adventure!
I was really happy with the 'dronage' in this one - also managed to keep it short and sweet 😄👍
@@FellHikermaybe you could do a packing episode, keen to know your preparation, kit, overview of your drone etc
Mate this is superbly filmed. Brilliant watch
Cheers Chris, thanks for the fantastic comment and sub. I worked hard on the edit for this one 👍
@@FellHiker you’re welcome. It shows.
Nice video. The corridor looked fantastic from the drone shot. Defo worth going back for 👍
Cheers mate! Yeah it all worked out well in the end, if I hadn't have gone the wrong I way, I probably wouldn't have got that footage. 😀
Love Kirk Fell by the route straight up from Wasdale head. Best wishes.
Yes I've also done that route, very steep a real calf burner.
Hats off to you that’s a decent bit of leg work put out there 🤚. What stunning views .
Cheers, yes all that hiking was definitely worth it for the views that day. Thanks for watching!
Lake district❤
Great video. Glad you had good weather for those views.
Yes I got lucky with the weather on both days and the views from the fells are fantastic. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Have subscribed :) I'm currently doing the beacons way also in weekend sections (made it up to Storey Arms so far!) on my channel if youre interested!
Thanks, I'll check out the video on your channel. I think we went slightly wrong at the Storey Arms, so don't follow us as a guide 😀Though it was a pleasant enough hike through the Craig Cerrig Gleisiad Nature Reserve. Good luck with the rest of Beacons Way. Cheers!
@@FellHiker Yes the next section does look tricky..! Beautiful though, the shots you captured are stunning!
@@EllieParkerYT Have fun, and I look forward to watching your next video 👍
Fantastic job guys- really nicely filmed… made me homesick for the UK… I was tearing up during the breakfast!
lol Cheers matey, that was a top breakfast!
Stunning landscape out there. Best wishes.
I really enjoyed watching your Bob Graham videos. We finished our 214 in 2022 from the U.S. after early retirement. Your videos reminded us of many enjoyable days in our favorite place on the planet. Thank you.
Thanks for watching and for your kind comments. Congratulations on completing the 214 Wainwrights, especially considering you're based in the US. It took me a good few years to complete and I only live a couple of hours from the Lake District. A worthy achievement!
@@FellHiker Best thing we have done. We return for a month each year. You are very fortunate to live so close.
Nice videos m8, cracking attempt, and to think the record is just over 12 hours, by Jack kuenzle from the states
Cheers@@alpine1609 thanks for watching. Yes and I think he did it at the same time I was out there filming this.
Leg 5 is my favourite as it is so beautiful and wild. A world away from Pen Y Fan which is only over the road! Thank you for doing this trail justice 🏴
The weather wasn't too great during that leg but we still enjoyed it despite what we might have said during the video. Hopefully we'll do the remaining legs later this year. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video, really enjoyed all your walk backs! Did this route with Alan last year and had similar weather to yourself. Regards, Ashley
Thanks Ashley, glad to know my walk backs are appreciated :) It's a great route.
Great video! Must plan a trip soon.
Thanks Stephen. Kentmere is well worth a visit anytime of the year.
Brilliant ! another great video. A great route with smashing views and excellent drone footage. It brought back good memories too . Looking forward to the next one !
Thanks Jan. I've got a couple more videos on the go in the edit room. So stay tuned :)
I took the exact same route (imo the best way round) in the summer with a couple of friends and memorably nearly stood on an adder on the way down. Real moody skies, which I love and despite a bit of rain and mist you still got some great views. I see those black cows are still there at the end, I hate the bloody things, cheers Alan
Cheers Alan. I would have loved to see an adder and capture it on camera. At some point this year I'm thinking of doing it again but in reverse and starting from Sadgill in Longsleddale, just for a change and an excuse to explore that valley. Thanks.
Great video, guys 👍 One question: How come you went the way you did after Story Arms? But there is a very decent Youth Hostel just the way you went that makes a great overnight stay
Thanks Ian, that's good to know about the Youth Hostel - maybe next time 🙂 I think we followed a route that was on our OS map app rather than the one in guide book by Peter Wilson, which I'm just looking at now and it does seem to describe a higher route on other side of that main road from the Storey Arm. But anyway we enjoyed the trip and glad you liked the video. Cheers!
Wow. its breathtaking. Thank you for sharing.
