Mr Jim & Wrong Way Wendy - Melbourne Australia
Австралия
Добавлен 8 июн 2021
Caravanning around Oz. We take our New (Jan 2023) ZONE RV Sojourn off road van, to some of Australia's most iconic locations. We stay off grid most of the time, but do visit caravan parks as well. We will post our honest opinion of the people and place we visit and hopefully encourage you to get out there and enjoy this beautiful big red land. Along the way we will share some tips and tricks we have picked up over the last 5 years of caravanning and touring.
End of the road (for now)
After completing the Oodnadatta track, Tanami Road & Gibb River Road we were happy to be back on the blacktop and headed for Broome. Our plan was to spend a week in town, get cleaned up and restocked then head north to the Dampier peninsula. But things don't always go to plan

Microphone issue resolved

After several weeks of issues with our microphones working, then not working, we finally locate the cause of our problems. But not before losing a great deal of footage which really annoyed me to the point that I lost interest in recording for a while.

Silence on the Oodnadatta Track
Просмотров 5716 месяцев назад
We are still struggling with the microphone thing. Keep forgetting to turn either the transmitter or reviver (or both) on. Then we also think that if we unplug the lead from the mic from the go pro it also goes silent. Well we will keep persevering with it till we get use to them. Hope you enjoy the footage anyway. There had been a lot of rain between the pink Roadhouse and Mt Dare Hotel so tha...

It rained while we were in Roxby Downs so we decided to keep on going towards William creek. But soon after we hit the Borefield Road the red dirt turned to red slippery mud. We were still going through a learning curve with the mics.

Glad you enjoyed it
Hi this is just the video I needed very very informative 🤗 I have a few questions ….we’re from the uk and will be doing the Tanami road from Alice to halls creek to get to el questro station…..we’re be doing the road in 2 days….we’re new to this camping game so we’ve hired a 4wd roof top camper hilux which I’m sure qualifies for the Tanami…..so do you need a permit to drive from Alice to halls creek ? Is there a border crossing when you cross into wa ? If so where to purchase the permits from ? Will be staying at tilmouth camp site for sure then a big drive to get us near halls creek but no idea any suggestions ? Will be doing the Tanami in very early august this year. Thanks for sharing the video I enjoyed watching it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And thank you for your time. 🤗
Courageous effort with a big van 1st time and always learning Yes 18-20 psi for soft sand especially with a big van,,,,,, Did really well getting that far not being in 4WDL .... Its great on the harder sand hahah Good Vid guys
Yeah it was a bit of fun too
Thanks for putting the video out. We plan to do the Tanami Road next year, we need to estimate how much fuel we need, are you able to provide how much fuel you used from the first fuel stop on the Tanami.
I filled up Alice 270 litre tank then I put 30 litres in At Tllmouth Wells Made it to Halls Creek about 1/4 tank left so I’m not 100% accurate on how much I used but I’d guess 190 - 200 litres
Hi Jim did you go with disc brakes ?
No but I should have
Thanks

Good video. I've been as far north as Blinman but you have convinced me to go to Arkaroola and Innaminka. Cooper Creek ends up in Lake Eyre by the way.
Arkaroola is very nice
Noice vid... slippery roads....
Was a bit of fun 🤩
what sort of Microphones are you using ?? DJI ??
Yeah but still trying to remember to turn them on 😂
Hi Jim and Wendy. Just sent you an email with what I did to cover my water inlets, Happy travels :)
Thanks for that, Greg. I will have a look shortly.

Have fun! Don’t forget to pick up your granddaughter on the way. I’ll pack her stuff now 😂
Yeah - nah
microphone is an instant winner. just need to see how it / they work with wendy
I'm tipping Wendy won't need a microphone, but we have a second one just in case
Sounds great! Enjoy that!
🍻 cheers
Looks like a great trip and we’ll look forward to seeing your adventures, what is the box next to the outdoor kitchen?
It is just a collapsible bin that we picked up from Aldi's
It is hanging on a fusion Lock coathanger
Hi Jim… just watched this. I am now going to find further videos from you. I think the rear axle is the weakest link for most setups. My LC200 was over by 120 which I have been able to address. I also had my caravan re rated to 4t and this, combined with the Lovells stage 2 got me legal. Anyhow….thanks for the great video which was most informative and enjoyable. I hope you are enjoying your travels in your beautiful Zone.
Thanks John
Mate, that bung plug is a great idea! Outstanding.
Cheers
Happy St Patricks to you too Jim. Great midge proof ideas. We pick up our Peregrine in 25 days , thanks for sharing your knowledge ...and trips.
PS great sheds too !!
Thank Ryan
We've joined the Zone Family, We collected our Sojourn from Coolum early December but are upset with the flyscreens but apart from that, great van
Yeah - you would think they could work something out to keep them in the tracks But a brilliant van otherwise
G'day Jim & Wendy. Thanks for all the work that you put into this and all your videos. They're great watching! Myself and wifey are saving for a Zone in about 18 months time. I'm guessing your previous vans had external audio speakers and by the looks of it, the Zone does not. Question, do you miss the external speakers and do you just use a portable bluetooth (or similar) now?
Yeah we just use a portable speaker Hardly ever used the van speakers on the last van. Don't miss them at all. Thanks for watching
Did the Smeg toaster come with the van?
No Wendy picked them up from Harvey Norman
How did you overcome your rear axel weight issues from earlier this year ?
Just reduced the fuel and water and crap we were carrying
Greta video guys. Enjoyed it ❤️
Thanks 😊
Belated post ….Just back in the West after 4 months traversing the GCR, up to the Cape, touring Qld north of the 26th, and back home down the Birdsville towing our upgraded 4000 ATM 2008 Supreme Territory. Saw a lot of Zone’s so your post was of interest. Coincidentally our pre-departure check weighing would have been about the same time as yours. Feel for you, as we had previously confronted similar issues … back when we discovered that despite our best efforts our much loved near new BT-50 for all its virtues was not going to be up to legally coping with the van, even at its then lesser original ATM when all the essentials and a few creature comforts were loaded. So with what do we now tow it? Having been bitten once by misguiding sales prattle, we paid much closer attention to the maths in achieving a legal outcome. Whilst also a real estate agent, happily I hold a truck license from farming days past which proved to be pivotally important. We now travel and tow now with a F-250 6.7L Super Duty, which is licensed from new as a light truck opening the way to have it licensed at its full load capabilities, thus not restricted to under 4.5T for non truck drivers. However, even with that advantage if you load 400kg (10% of the vans ATM) on to the 250’s tow ball, our weighing showed that with draw system, tools, full engel, canopy, roof rack, second ute spare etc etc we are still close to the rear axle limit. Yes its an expensive step up, but I sleep better! As further consolation, its no go-kart for ride comfort, has unbelievable amounts of power, and most V8 LC folks are scratching their heads when we compare fuel economy. Once you know how the numbers really stack, you cant help but wonder how many caravaners you see are rolling without certainty of third party public liability cover and vehicle/van insurance if the unforeseen happens.
Noice vid...One Day
Cheers thanks for watching
Noice vid. would look better in a higher resolution :-)
Yeah I’m not sure what settings are best in Filmora. Got any suggestions
Great video guys , the audio is very quiet tho but the scenery is good 👍, 38 bucks for a little tiny schnitzel 😮 that's robbery , passing through McLaren Vale in SA the other day its just a normal every day town the Cafe there wanted 14 bucks for 1 toasted cheese and ham sandwich that's double the price elsewhere , Aussies ripping Aussies off 😢 now I see why folks go overseas 4 their holidays its better value and a shit load cheaper , but I still want to see Australia first but I always walk back out off the shops and pubs that try too rip me off , I'm happy to support honest businesses but not the greedy ones , I feel sorry 4 the locals paying 4 them ridiculous prices
Yeah luckily most outback towns are pretty well price
Hi. There doesn't appear to be an extraction system above the cooking area ?
No there is a very powerful central roof fan that is more than sufficient
@@mrjimwrongwaywend My preference would be to remove smoke, grease and odours close to the source, but each to their own.
Hi Wendy!! Please get the names of our country towns correct. Your showing the whole world our beautiful country. I don't think that we have a town in Australia called Arracoola.! Otherwise it was a good look at the dusty northern part of SA. 👍
We call her wrong way Wendy for a reason 😝
I used to work in this area back in early 1980s. I went water skiing in the Cooper Creek. Can't wait to get back up there soon. Great clip. 👍 Glad you're back dropping videos guys.
It was such a surprise to see that much water Thanks for watching
Great vid... noice countryside....
It’s great to see it up close - so sparse
Good to see some one doing the inland dirt.
Love the inland dirt - shame about the flies lol
Great Vid....
Thanks for watching
Great vid. would be better filmed in 1080 or 4K :-)
Thanks for the tip
